Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

jackster79: Yep! We are determined to maximize our savings per game.

TwistedFate: I can't speak for anyone else, but I wasn't just waiting or goofing off. I spent all weekend working on a redesign of my website for my freelance web business. Just kept 2 tabs open to watch sale and read forum periodically. It's actually uploading now, so I don't know what I'll do until the end of the sale.
Oh I did the same. Manged to finally get around to watching Season 1 of Game of Thrones for the first time. It helps doing it in a marathon session, and as it was on DVD I could pause it anytime to address any sale-related items or interact with the forums.

The hard part was finding productive activities that could accommodate the demands of the sale. :-)

BananaJane: Yeah but if you're looking through a bin you don't have to look at Jack Keane 2 for 5 hours

CarrionCrow: Read that and started laughing hysterically.
Then the tears began.
Not sure if it's PTSD or catharsis.
Made my day :D

UncleOvid: Eh, you don't have to do that here either.
We ALL HAD to

Boxbee: Does anyone think that Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete might go on sale again. I've missed it at least once!
You missed it thrice, actually.

This is the last round of the sale and you missed your last chance of getting NWN2 in it. Don't lose hope, though, the Christmas sale is upon us, and NWN2 will surely get a nice discount, probably included in a D&D bundle, as usual.

It will, but you'll most likely have to wait until the winter sale next month.

bringthemback: Sacred Gold & Thief 2? :P
avatar
KMJX: Actually, I will miss Thief 2 on purpose, since one of my extras was asked in trade for it.

Has everyone given up, or are they all digging deep in the nearly 32'000 posts of this thread?
Page 1550 should be as far as you need to go look for my posts, since hints have been repeated a couple times (except the post that says which games in this promo I own on discs. Additionally, I came to the sale at the start of the third and final round, so there's some narrowing down for everyone)

Have my guesses been all wrong then?

01kipper: Thanks, I'll have to look into that. (I've only just started gaming again recently after a very long hiatus :)
There is appdb.winehq.org obviously (no, you don't have to remember that URL, just Google for "wine" and $GameName). It gives you a pretty good idea whether it's worth installing a game. If it's not the Insomnia Sale, it even gives you an idea if it's worth buying the game in the first place ;)

I don't know if there is something like PlayOnLinux for Mac OS, too. It's basically a wrapper with a database of working Wine version and settings for a number of games.

trustymutsi: I'm gonna skip King of Dragon Pass. If I need to think this hard about it, I obviously don't want it that badly :)
See every time I think that, 1.49 goes through my head again ..
I was just thinking, the GOG servers have done very well through this sale. Thankfully :)

innerring: Thanks! :)

edit: woah, that was fast, redeemed by Torial

FoxySage: I guess it wasn't Rohan then? Got invalid code when i tried.
It was, got redeemed by Torial who I haven't seen posting in this thread, although did thank in pm. Maybe should have done the giveaway by first to reply or PMs.

BananaJane: Actually this game looks like the questionaires at the start of ultima 4 and ogre battle and morrowind.
Is it pretty much a questionaire the entire game?
Cause that sounds fun
oo, what game would this be?
avatar
BananaJane: Yeah but if you're looking through a bin you don't have to look at Jack Keane 2 for 5 hours
Well, not Jack Keane 2 specifically, but I remember the times when more people bought DVDs in megastores. If a title failed miserably, it wasn't uncommon for it to cover a whole bargain bin.

ToxicCosmos: oo, what game would this be?
talking about king of dragon pass
OK, so does anyone want Populous on Origin?
