Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

xy2345: Come on people, buy the rest of those duke games and let's move on! ;-)
They gifted so many of them already. this may take a few minutes.

tu32: Man, I just checked my mails before going to bed. "Dont fall asleep promo" ...now what...
I think you know the answer.

Well, you missed the whole fun :D
It was great seeing 1000 copies of Theme Hospital selling so quickly, a fantastic game.
Just like last time Duke is selling terribly.

Just stop putting it on sale and move on.

vojtasass: Free game. And people thought that promo is over...

Bear AGAIN! Noooooooo! ;(
It flashed in my browser like for 0.5. second and was replaced immediately by Duke. Seriously, either someone lives very close to server room and has super responsive connection with GOG, there is another bot active or I don't know. Purchase of free game lasts at least for 3 seconds when GOG has really good day.
I'm not complaining, I just wonder about the cause.

Anyway, encore effectively blocked me from going to bed :P.
I'm always to late for the free games, as I don't just hit click immediately when i see the word free, but take a look at the title and wonder if it's a game i really want, even if it's free, i won't add it unless i like it (that's why i don't have empire earth 2 in my library). Once my brain made up it's mind, the game is already gone from the screen.
Cognition, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Wing Commander: Privateer and Puddle so far :)

mindstreamer: I wish they made the freebies giveaway a little more random and less latency based, e.g. for a few minutes you can submit a click if you want the game, then some randomizer script picks some winners from those.
That's a good idea.

Senteria: Oh my, pretend you didn't see it. It's better for you.
I'm trying that with games all the time...it doesnt work^^

Melhelix: No fear! They are repeating the sales and seem to be releasing them in larger batches! Plus, quite a few people left, so lighter server load. Which is great cause we were crashing the GOG servers like mad.
avatar
Khalaq: There actually aren't that many games on GOG that I don't already own. If I had the money, I'd own everything on the site. P
Me too. Have most of the games i want... and the ones in the top 30....theres only few on this sale im interested in...

xep624: It's definitely the coolest promo ever in history of digital distribution!! You guys at gog.com are certainly creative!
avatar
nijuu: Definitely. Needed to do something different. Like someone said.. coulda done with a timer...
Yeah timer could have been a good idea but just watching hundreds of games being bought is sooooooooo cooooool! I mean it just shows how big gog.com is nowadays, which makes me happy! And my wallet empty...

Shad0WeN: The charity sale was a good idea but this is just retarded. People have better things to do than sit around waiting for something they want to go on sale on one of these special deals that changes every 2 minutes. Saw a comment from someone else that said it best:

The "I have no life sale" indeed!

If you want to bring in new customers this isn't the way to do it. Personally I do not buy games from GOG and the reason is simple: your sales stink and you just aren't competitive with offers from other digital storefronts like Steam, Green Man Gaming, Gamefly, and even the Indie Bundle sites. And running this ill-thought-out promotion does not help change that perception for me.
I don't know, would a "cool story bro" or a "tl;dr" be more appropriate here?

Senteria: I actually started clicking before the free game came and also during the free game showing up, but before I was even able to get the free game showing up it showed it already expired. How can it expire before it even shows up on the page. That's not fair. :(
Overloaded GOG's servers and a huge internet connection latency I think...
Next - Thief Gold...
