Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

MechaKong: Nobody buying the games cares, but you better believe that the developers, publishers, and retailers care about the sales reputations of their games. To make this relationship between the retailers and the uncaring masses more copacetic, the retailers need to reconsider their approach, hence the suggestion of timers.

The timers would still have you waiting in line for the next game, you just wouldn't have to worry about any "Keanes" popping up unexpectedly.

keef0723: I think that the devs / pubs of these games would've accepted the possibility of a title being a slow seller, but considering that these games are here, shows that they thought it worth the risk. Plus, at up to 80% off, they're more likely to get more people buying their game, than suffer any long lasting 'bad reputation' for being slow.

I mean, who's going to remember any of this once the xmas sales happen??
The retailer's ideals about accepting their sales numbers and their game(s) reputation is only a part of the issue. They obviously don't have an outlook that it's acceptable for their games to be thought ill of.

The other part of the issue is the somewhat sloppy execution of the arbitrary quantities, especially in relation to freebies. It's theoretically possible that people are using scripts to manipulate the system and that's unfair to the honest customers who are actually making purchases in this sale. Freebies should be a reward for honest customers and no matter how they are distributed they should be handed out in a more fair and protected manner.

FoxySage: Damn it i missed Thief 3 because of Larry Keane Reloaded.

Sigh. Guess i'll just wait for the christmas sale.
There were some people on the forum with extra copies, you should check it if you have something to trade

Leon_Belmont: I do care, because I waited since friday to buy Brutal Legend, the problem here is that you need to stay all the day to wait and see if the game you want is the next. At lest it could be great if they can show the next game in line so you can decide if you want it or not, or if you can have a little snap.
What nobody cared for was the fact that the game laying in bargain bin has its reputation ripped out without grace. The waiting part is separate. I understand that it's not your thing, but, see, there are other, more normal sales on GOG, even right during this one. This one is specifically tailored for the people that wish to trade in quite a lot of their time for spending less money on games.

So: you take damage => you pay less. In fact, loads of sales happen to work based on this template. You don't wanna buy that game for 49$ when it's all cool cause it just released? Well, maybe you're crazy enough to buy it earlier/later and pay less. You don't wanna buy those fancy fashionable clothes when they're fashionable? Well, if you will buy them afterwards and wearing them is not fashionable anymore, you will pay less. You find your city's public transport outrageously expensive? Well, if you are gonna supply them with your personal data and buy multiple tickets at once, you'll pay less. There's a box of 10 weird chocolate bars with reduced price compared to one? If you end up not liking them, you'll lose more money, but in other case, well, you'll pay less for each one.

cpucrust: Yes, learning the language was certainly a challenge. But my memories are mostly of the good experiences I had. Plus, most of Bavaria was very beautiful. After having lived there a short time, I look forward to visiting again someday.
The landscape and architecture sure is beautiful (and the architecture in particular is much more intact than that of the northern settlements ... "intact" as in "not built after '45"). The people tend to be a tad conservative for my taste and also I don't usually feel as Prussian as many make me feel. So all in all, while the economy sure is strong down there, I don't see myself working there any time soon. I'd rather come to Canada to be honest ;)

KMJX: That is one of them, yes. there is at least one other though.

MystifiedFire: Is it Scared Gold and System Shock 2?
System Shock is still wrong. I never owned that game.

There will be no more hints, and I don't like the same people just keeping on with guesses from a very limited list until they "get it right". Where's the fun in that?
Think, dig. There is at least one more big hint that will tell the answer to good (or even mediocre) detectives.
Is it Scared Gold and Septerra Core.
So, here I was praising Soul Reaver so much, I decided to play the GOG version I just bought and, god!, is it good! Fortunately, the glorious FMVs work flawlessly in this version, something my disk copies had stopped doing quite some time ago (ever since I upgraded to this crappy Vista OS), unless you fiddled about with the game, and whatnot.

Once again, thank you, GOG, for providing me with some of the best games ever, especially these classics that had stopped working or had issues and your versions, so far, worked seamlessly right off the box (except for Interstate '76, I just remembered that one, but unfortunately there's nothing that can easily be done to solve the "wobbly wheels" glitch).

And, well, that's what I've been doing ever since Soul Reaver was on sale the last time: playing Soul Reaver.

MystifiedFire: Is it Scared Gold and Septerra Core.
That's close, considering i do own Septerra Core... but I own it on gog too ^^

ADDENDUM: good detectives will already know what the mystery key is, since they will dig out where I posted what I have.

Hrm, Sacred Gold and Defender's Quest?
Does anyone have an extra Baldur's Gate 2? I have nothing to trade, but would be happy to pay for it via Paypal. :)
Sacred Gold and Nexus.
Hey guys, did I miss anything between Puddle and Erica Keane? I fell asleep for a few hours.

Prydeless: Hrm, Sacred Gold and Defender's Quest?
How'd you figure Defender's Quest? (which is wrong, but I'm still curious)
Has jade empire passed?
