Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

zlep: Having grown up with random battles in every Western RPG (Wizardry, Ultima, Bard's Tale, Gold Box D&D, etc) it confused me for years why people seemed to think they were a Japanese thing. Then one day I realised that Western RPGs had sort of exported them to Japan with the Wizardry license, never to be seen on Western shores again. I think the reason it took me so long to notice was that I played so many older games.
I guess part of it is that random events are expected in pen and PNP RPGs, so maybe it felt natural to have random battles on older cRPGs, but then they just became filler and used too frequently, just getting in the way of story?

richiev333: Just got Brutal Legend, I play guitar and if I didn't buy, I'd probably get kicked out of the League of extraordinary rockers
Well, I suppose it's depend on your style.
If You play a twangy tele into a tweed, maybe Brutal Legend is not for You ;-)

mudd1: Lol, I would find it hard to believe if anyone *didn't* struggle with German. And Bavarian German in particular. I struggle with that.
avatar
Thruggsen: Once upon a time I had a girlfriend from Berlin, I started to learn German pretty much from scratch (had studied French at school) - she would always roll her eyes and tell me "You sound Bavarian" which I gathered was the single most uncomplimentary thing she could think of to say about my efforts.
Yes, learning the language was certainly a challenge. But my memories are mostly of the good experiences I had. Plus, most of Bavaria was very beautiful. After having lived there a short time, I look forward to visiting again someday.

KMJX: No

Hints might be in THE LIST
Let's see. You were looking for:
NWN Diamond
Tropico 3 Gold Ed.
Sacred Gold
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident
Icewind Dale Complete
Evoland
Aquanox
Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga
Beyond Good and Evil

So, I'm betting one of those. ;)

LOL She sure was one of those ... upfront Germans you hear so much about, wasn't she? ;)

RudyLis: Aren't all these rather... old? Not sure whether those titles are AAA or not, it's arguable, but arenlt they more or less known at least by their name and/or their publisher/developer name?

It was a bit sarcastic on my part - Diablo 3 (and simcity) "backstory". Dunno why they should upgrade WC3 - IIRC mine worked just fine. Higher resolutions, if only, but I really don't know why do that - that Space Rangers HD "remake" was awful. At least "remade" part is. IMHO.

skeletonbow: They weren't old when they came out, they were new. :) They were all AAA titles at the time of release.

Warcraft and Warcraft II wont run on modern Windows properly, I dunno about Warcraft III as I haven't ran it since Windows XP. Like most of the games on GOG, these games are classics and they don't run properly on a modern OS. Why is Blizzard revamping them? To make them run on modern OSs. :) What isn't clear is whether they're going to be sold on digital distribution, or free giveaways or something else. Blizzard revamped one of their older games not long ago - Blackthorne, and it is now available as a free download through their download platform. It's possible they might make some or all of the Warcraft titles available free too. It'd just be nice to have updated versions of them though that work cleanly with current OSs even if zero features are added or changed for the same reasons most of us are on GOG.com - to get old classic games that run on current systems. As for higher resolutions, that sort of thing generally is done as an option on game refreshes and is user configurable so people who want the authentic original game can have that pixelated experience and those who want something fresh and high res can have that too. Options are good. Having said that, I'm happy with the games the way they are, they're real AAA classics. Well, WC2 and WC3 are. WC1 was nice for what it brought new to the table, and it has it's historical nostalgia, but not necessarily AAA.

I think Warcraft II can hold its own for playability and replay value even to this day compared to a lot of stuff coming out now even. ;)

How is MP in this game?
avatar
korell: You mean Brutal Legend? There is no MP in the GOG version. Check the GOG game page: Multiplayer notice: The DRM free version of Brutal Legend is single-player only.
Oooh... :O Didn't read that, I was just waiting for the game... Thought about buying another copy to play MP with some1... Shame about PVP but non the less, great buy

Thanks for the info

WC3 installed/played fine and that was 2 months ago - running Win 8 x64. I used the downloader version from the bnet store though.
What do you think the chances are of GOG doing one more "Encore" deal, having smaller volume deals of the top 5-10 titles one more time, as a surprise?

GabiMoro: I want Heroes 3 dammit! Just to buy 2 copies for my friends.

Or Jade Empire.
Me too... Just these two.... :(

But I get to hang out with the GoG clan, so it's cool...
Damn it i missed Thief 3 because of Larry Keane Reloaded.

Sigh. Guess i'll just wait for the christmas sale.
Thief 1 and 2, and Jade all all I have left on my list...

Ah cool. I figured it might. Hopefully they'll make a bigger announcement soon so we know what the details are. :) I'm thinking it is a proper port of the first 2 games at least to Windows 7+, ditching the DOS legacy code and whatnot.
