Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

CarrionCrow: Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone.
Did they ever get around to putting out Jade Empire or the first two Thief games?
Still on the list. Jade is also a weeklong deal on Steam, so..if you miss it here not too much of a biggy.

astraldemon: Woohooo :D Finally :D
How is MP in this game?
You mean Brutal Legend? There is no MP in the GOG version. Check the GOG game page: Multiplayer notice: The DRM free version of Brutal Legend is single-player only.

Not yet.

Prydeless: Deus Ex, MOO, HOMM5, SS2, Aquanox 2, BG2, Sacred Gold, Thief 3?

KMJX: Good job digging out the biggest Hint, but the answer is not correct.
LOL HOMM5?

stan423321: Physical shops have been running sales this way for years and years, and yes, it hurts some games. Nobody cared then, I don't see why we shall care now. The waiting thing is the whole point of the Insomnia Sale.

Next up: Brutal Legend, 450 copies, 3.74$.

MechaKong: Nobody buying the games cares, but you better believe that the developers, publishers, and retailers care about the sales reputations of their games. To make this relationship between the retailers and the uncaring masses more copacetic, the retailers need to reconsider their approach, hence the suggestion of timers.

The timers would still have you waiting in line for the next game, you just wouldn't have to worry about any "Keanes" popping up unexpectedly.
Totally agree. A timer would go a long way to providing a much better customer experience and for the developer they (if they are paying attention) don't have to see their game languish and take a beating on the forums.

What I really don't like about this sale is the appearance that every game has to be sold in order to move to the next one. It's really an unrealistic expectation to make of your customers. Some might say unethical? I love GOG but this type of sale needs a bit of tweaking for me to take part in it again.
The list as i know it, of games still to come:

Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Ed $1.49
Expeditions: Conquistador $4.99
Heroes of Might & Magic 3: Complete Ed $2.49
Jade Empire: Special Ed $2.99
King of Dragon Pass $1.49
Psychonauts $2.49
Spellforce Platinum $2.49
Sword of the Stars: The Pit $2.09
Thief Gold $1.99
Thief 2: Metal Age $1.99

positivew: Although I missed Theme Hospital on all three rounds somehow, I still bought it, even if it was the whole whopping $5.99. Great game, played it at a friend's place a long time ago, still remember the good times.
I really wonder how much more GOG makes in addition to the games on sale *because* of the sale. I bought Stronghold HD after getting Space Colony HD on the sale. It was cheaper than normal, too, but still ...

Thanks for the info. I grabbed it previously, but was curious since a lot of people were still trying to hang in there so they could get it when I fell asleep.

You got me LOL, I edited after seeing the earlier post where he stated That he had the previous edition box. Good point though in editing probably isn't fair. I'm only doing this to pass the time really.

skeletonbow: Some that come to mind for me were Warcraft III, Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth and Battle for Middle Earth II. I didn't even know the latter two existed and found them in the store and just had to have them and they turned out to be mind blowing awesome. Then there was Ghost Recon, GRAW and GRAW2 and the Splinter Cell games also and I enjoyed all of those totally. Half Life and Half Life 2 are way up there too.

RudyLis: Aren't all these rather... old? Not sure whether those titles are AAA or not, it's arguable, but arenlt they more or less known at least by their name and/or their publisher/developer name?

It was a bit sarcastic on my part - Diablo 3 (and simcity) "backstory". Dunno why they should upgrade WC3 - IIRC mine worked just fine. Higher resolutions, if only, but I really don't know why do that - that Space Rangers HD "remake" was awful. At least "remade" part is. IMHO.
They weren't old when they came out, they were new. :) They were all AAA titles at the time of release.

Warcraft and Warcraft II wont run on modern Windows properly, I dunno about Warcraft III as I haven't ran it since Windows XP. Like most of the games on GOG, these games are classics and they don't run properly on a modern OS. Why is Blizzard revamping them? To make them run on modern OSs. :) What isn't clear is whether they're going to be sold on digital distribution, or free giveaways or something else. Blizzard revamped one of their older games not long ago - Blackthorne, and it is now available as a free download through their download platform. It's possible they might make some or all of the Warcraft titles available free too. It'd just be nice to have updated versions of them though that work cleanly with current OSs even if zero features are added or changed for the same reasons most of us are on GOG.com - to get old classic games that run on current systems. As for higher resolutions, that sort of thing generally is done as an option on game refreshes and is user configurable so people who want the authentic original game can have that pixelated experience and those who want something fresh and high res can have that too. Options are good. Having said that, I'm happy with the games the way they are, they're real AAA classics. Well, WC2 and WC3 are. WC1 was nice for what it brought new to the table, and it has it's historical nostalgia, but not necessarily AAA.

I think Warcraft II can hold its own for playability and replay value even to this day compared to a lot of stuff coming out now even. ;)

New troll here! Who wants to sing!

They're destroying our city!
Attaaaaaaack!
