Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

I know I've posted this a couple times already but what do you guys think of this? (I'm especially proud of the freebie system idea.)

Here's my proposal for the next sale:

~120 games
~Four rounds
~Each round is 18 hours (period, no exceptions)
~Each game goes up and has 9 minutes to sell the allotment
~If a game sells quicker then the extra time is carried over to the next game and so on.
~If a game runs out of time then the surplus copies are added to the next round.
~Freebies fill in small slots
~Freebie shows up for 5 seconds, no exception
~Once the time has passed, winners of the freebies are notified
~Anyone who entered and didn't get picked gets another entry in the next one they enter
~Once you win one, your entries are reset

So, here's what would happen. Sale starts, first game is NWN2, 1000 copies. Sells out in 4 minutes. Next is SS2, 900 copies. has 13 minutes (original 9+NWN2's extra 4). IT sells out in 6 minutes. JK2 is next, 5 copies. Timer is only for 15 minutes and, when only a single copy sells, the other four are added to round two's allotment and the next game is back to the original 9 minute window.

As for freebies, RCR shows up, 50 copies, the 5 second timer ticks down. 200 people click on it. 50 people are chosen at random and get a "Congratulations" e-mail, other 150 each will get an extra "entry" in the next freebie. Next freebie is Divinity, 40 copies. The same 200 people from before enter. Now the ones who didn't win before are twice as likely as those that did to win.

What do you guys think?

P.S. Only reason I think the extra copies should be carried over is to make sure the title not selling out wasn't some fluke and to make sure people can get what they want.
Ok my last post was eaten by a grue, so I'll repeat myself:

Oh screw you gog :P

TheeAceMan: Don't forget about the PC + Mac Mix sale too. I picked up Divine Divinity and Stronghold HD off that sale as well as about 5 off the Insomnia sale AquaNox 1 + 2, Strike Suit Zero, Deus Ex GOTY, and Septerra Core). Should be coming to a close here shortly.
Just wanted to echo this, since its ending in a few hours (wonder if GOG is trying to synchronise the end of both their sales...)

Divine Divinity for $1.49 is a steal. It's an action RPG with tonnes of quests, a real sense of freedom, and a quirky sense of humour. It's difficult to describe what makes it great - it's just one of those games that's actually better than the sum of all its parts.

My indie favourite from the bunch is Waking Mars. It's listed as an action-adventure-platformer, which doesn't tell you much of anything. It's really an exploration game with some puzzle elements, where you're trying to work out for yourself the mysteries of an alien ecology. It kept me fascinated, although it's not one for the twitch gamers.

mondo84: Cognition: A Jack Keane Thriller is up.
So nice, had to say it twice.
;)
Thats the 3rd successful call on games for me :S i should buy a lottery ticket....

Next? Ill say either Duke Nukem or King of Dragon.... maaaaybe Thief 2

MGShogun: Jade Empire?
Still waiting here for that aswell. As an odd coincidence (or perhaps not) it's actually a Steam weekly deal for like $3.75. I would still rather have it here for cheaper, but a comforting backup if I step out and miss it...

stutzjon: again, I have no problem running other graphic intensive like Mass Effect 2+3 and Skyrim at 30 FPS. Is there a patch that I need to download?
avatar
Grargar: Not one that I am aware of. I ran the first Witcher on an Athlon X2 260 with 4 Giga Ram and a Radeon HD 6770 and I had no problem at maxed 1360x768 resolution. Witcher 2 also runs fine with Ubersampling disabled.
Thanks for the info. I'll probably mess around with it some more and post on the CD Projekt Red forums if I need to. Would love to get it running since it looks bad ass.

Faenwulf: See the positive Site about this.

Whe nCognition is over, the rest will be more or less easy sailing.
(Unless GoG decides to sell another Indie Game with 1000+copies....)
I don't know...didn't expect Witcher 2 to take 1 hour and 20 minutes.... (feeling hopeless...:) )
Aside from giving each other free games (which is really kind, btw). ..

...everybody here in this community, LET'S DO SOMETHING GOOD TODAY! - give a homeless person some food or a bit of money, help somebody in need.
Dam it, I am going to do it - you too.

...Just waiting for Conquistador.

Really....glad you mentioned that....Now I have an alternate for both my last 2 games (still hope to get them here though)

Good luck!
If I hit buy now, do I go to checkout and a bunch of other confirmation screens like normal, so I can cancel my order anytime, or is the purchase finalized right there and I am committed to paying for it? I ask so I can safely click buy now for the free games without wasting a nanosecond looking to see if it's free or not.

Thats a good time for 900 (or 1000?) copeis of a 4.99$game in the third round.
