Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

ReynardFox: There is still a lot of work to do, but some games run pretty much flawlessly now, God of War 2 in 1080p is particularly striking. Some games are still broken or flawed, and They still haven't found a proper solution to non-progressive screen shaking though and you still need a beast of a PC. The requirements will most likely only go up as it develops as the more accurate to hardware it gets the more processing power it will require. Hell a cycle accurate SNES emulator requires a 3ghz CPU.

EX-Deimon: Man, I can imagine. I saw Dragon Quest VIII in 1080p and it looked....well...you can imagine that for yourself.
- and yeah, not all games work fine. Xenosaga episode 1 ran a bit dodgy on my pc, yet episode 2 ran smoothly :/
I actually don't think that Firefly "The series" was really that outstanding. Firefly "The Concept" on the other hand... The characters and possibilities were outstanding and would have been awesome but Fox didn't let it be.

Frostyfirefly: If Jack bites you....you will turn into a Keane yourself!!!! O_o

kklsid: Well, at least I will live forever.
That's true, and no matter how much people want you to go away, you will linger there, and if you do go away for a bit...you will always return, with a vengeance!
this game is not even close to Keaning for a start i keep seeing the counter move and it is selling much more quickly trouble is everyoine was spoiled before keane in stuff was selling out in minutes

actually maybe we should use this to update our calender to a decimal one with a
BK (before Keane)
and a
PK (post Keane)

Well, they did make it up a little for sticking with my beloved Fringe. I'm very grateful for that.

I tried so hard to like that show because of its characters but the science was just too bad.

Frostyfirefly: I have never watched Firefly.

kklsid: WHAT! WHAT IS THIS BLASPHEMY!
I know, right? Right?

I think you may have quoted the wrong post...

EX-Deimon: And all this talk about Vagrant Story makes me want to buy it off PSN. I loved that game! I also loved Wild Arms!
Yes, those were great games... as well as another favorite of mine, Vandal Hearts. Wish they would do a remake of that.

On a side-note, I was doing a little organizing yesterday and found a copy of Silent Bomber for the PS1, that I thought I had lost forever. Another great one.
Great, now I want to play Soul Reaver. Time to start up the old Dreamcast...

stevieknix: I remember getting to the dragon in the forest maze. Took me a few tries to beat him.

God, that combo system.

Schemilix: Chain arts? I loved those.
ever played 'the summoner' then?^^

groze: I can't recommend Soul Reaver enough, guys. This game truly is a sapphire (why not specify the gem itself? I'm getting tired of reading everything is a "GEM" over the internet).

Some may argue that the only title that matters is the first one, just for obscurity's sake and the fact you look cooler in a nerd way. Video game hipsters, in other words. The first title was developed by Silicon Knights, who also made the great Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the GameCube, but those two are about the only good games they made in a life span of 20-some years.

There are some great articles detailing the history of the Legacy of Kain series, and all the legal and basic work relation troubles Silicon Knights had with Crystal Dynamics and Activision while developing Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (Denis Dyack seems to have a thing for getting himself and his companies into trouble, just take a look at the Epic lawsuit that drove Silicon Knights into bankruptcy right after they released the mediocre Too Human), so, if you're interested, google them up. A lot of these "original Legacy of Kain" purists don't like the direction Crystal Dynamics and Eidos took the series, putting Raziel in there, and all, but, being involved with the messy Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter and community (a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness), I know Silicon Knights would have taken the series in a very lame, uninspired direction. So, thank you, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics, for losing the Diablo-esque RPG aesthetic (people can say all they want that Blood Omen is "Zelda with vampires; that sure is no Zelda in my book, always felt more like one of the many Diablo clones out there to me) and turning the series into an action adventure.

Raziel is definitely one of my all time favourite video game characters, and it's all due to this game you guys now have here on sale. This is a game with a huge desolated world for you to explore, in which you could lose yourself for hours on end, with great environmental puzzles, top-notch voice acting, challenging enemies that are fun to fight against (even though the combat system hasn't aged all that well, admittedly), a great, superbly written and woven story, expanding on the basic "vampires and ancients" myth of the first one, gripping, strongly built characters... the works.

I fail to understand why people keep buying Shadow Man during this sale, and let Soul Reaver stall like this... they're similar in the way they're both third person action adventure games from the late 90s, both deal with dual planes of the same world and both have you play as this gritty cool anti-hero. But that's about it. Soul Reaver is a much better game by a long shot, and if anyone here bought Shadow Man and are not buying Soul Reaver, well, you're doing yourselves a disservice.

To all story fans, action adventure fans, exploration fans, puzzle fans, voice acting fans out there: this is one title you shouldn't be missing.

I have at least three copies of Soul Reaver and I'm nabbing another one right now. You should too.
Bought it, going to give it a shot :)

I keep getting that same reaction, guess I'll have to watch it eventually; I didn't expect the spanish inquisition :p

It was really innovative.

The higher your combo the lower your accuracy, so you when fighting a boss you really wanted to take him out in one combo if you could.
