Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Schemilix: Click on your account and then click on the image of the lil' face, you can upload from your PC.

dal4fsu: Cannot click on picture and has the following next to it: to change, visit My account
Just place your mouse cursor on it, above it it should say "change picture", click on that

skeletonbow: You bring up an excellent point too. :) One game yesterday stalled the sale for 7 hours if I'm not mistaken. I can't remember what it was, and don't think anyone turned it into a meme either. ;)

Cardian: As has been thoroughly discussed before, there are too many factors to consider. Selling 600 copies in 8 hours (RCR) is nothing compared to 100 copies in 5 hours (Keane), but also price, round of sale, saturation and even time need to be considered. Therefore, The Prime Keaning shall always be the example to be referenced.
Also, he was The First. The One Who Came Before. He gave us blissful sleep and time off, when none dared hope of such.

foxworks: Question for the group. Has anyone successfully purchased a game from their mobile phone or device?
avatar
pacogens: I purchase Resonance with any problem
Sweet. Luckily I was by a computer for most of the event and didn't miss anything. But for the future!
avatar
Cardian: It ends on a cliffhanger.

Edit: Wait... did it end on a cliffhanger or was that Soul Reaver 2? No, that one ALSO ended on a Cliffhanger.
avatar
Schemilix: I'm reluctant to spend time and money on an entire series... Kain himself doesn't look all that interesting, Raziel I've heard a lot about.
Also I heard Blood Omens 2 is wank.
Yeah, BO2 is not the best one in the series, that's for sure. It's kind of an alternate reality but still influences the overall storyline massively. The worst part is that even Defiance, the last chapter so far, ends in a cliffhanger and will not be resolved soon. Next one up is a terrible looking MMO thingie that doesn't fit the mythology at all. If you want in one the game, you should do it because of the great gameplay of Soul Reaver but not for the story as that will never be finished.

badbob001: I absolutely loved Soul Reaver... when I played it on the Playstation. I once tried it on PC and disliked it because the PC version only supports eight directions of movement compared to the PS1's 360. It made movement more frustrating, especially if you want to quickly jump off at a particular angle but now you have to first rotate like a turret. Any chance this is fixed?

EX-Deimon: Great, I read this AFTER I bought it. Just when i was worried as to how the controls are :P
Yeah, but there are threads talking about using programs to make it compatible with controllers.

Alien8n: Ah dammit. If anyone wants to be especially nice pick up a copy of Thief Gold for me. I'll paypal it across when I get back (unless Thief Gold still hasn't shown in the next 3 hours).

Right off to a job interview, see you in about 3 hours :)
The problem with that idea, is that there are about 10000 people here, and if you don't actually make arrangements with one specific person who will be reliable and trustworthy, then 10 different people might feel kind and buy it and 9 of them waste their money. That's already happened several times in this thread including just a few hours ago I read someone commenting about something like that happening.

People who need assistance like this should make arrangements with a specific person, asking people to private message them if they are willing to help, and then select one of the responders and thank them and set them to task, and tell the others "someone already volunteered but thanks".

It's just organized and courteous to the would be do-gooder souls out there. :)

dedoporno: To a certain degree. But you'd want to play the second one also in order to witness one of the better game stories in existence. You may also try to play the Blood Omen series (first one is an absolute must!) and Defiance for extended lore and character development, but the important stuff is mostly in the Soul Reaver games.
avatar
Schemilix: Alright. I can commit to those two, and then if I really like them, I can pick up the others since they're often on sale. Thanks!
But also, the saga was never concluded!

I know it can, but playing a PC game with a controller kinda defeats the purpose, really.
Well a friend of mine's been bugging me to play them since I met him, and his favourite games are Vagrant Story, FFT and Tactics Ogre, just like me.

...Yes I am a horrible Yazmat tard. I like deep, original storytelling. I'll prioritise it over good gameplay tbh.

So I hear. I'll just play these two then. I don't have infinite time but I do have a titanic backlog.

Maybe people forget or were not with us in the trenches during the Rise of Lord Keane. Prior to him games came and went, relatively quickly. Merry gatherings were happening, we were all joking and laughing and drinking as we watched Game after game whip by at lightning speed. Like kids opening our presents we waited for the next game with a sense of delight and anticipation.

This ended with Keane. When he raised his ugly head we all too quickly realised the dark potential of this activity. GOG had thrown something at us that would try to break us and after a beautiful first round of games appearing in quantities of 500-2000 and taking mere moments to sell out, Keane showed us that not all games were created equal. And with 100 copies Keane shut the sale down, bringing with it a revelation that the sale truly would be an Insomniac sale.

Game since then have taken a while yes, but it is due to the tiredness of the game, having sold 2, 3, 4000 copies already. Never again will a game pop up with such a small offering in the midst of a spending spree by nostalgic fuelled gamers and destroy any good cheer that had come before it as Keane did.

What? No, not even slightly. Not every game is suited to keyboard and mouse, many action games that don't involve shooting can benefit greatly from using a controller.

dal4fsu: Alright, I am feeling like an idiot right now. How the hell do you change the avatar? I go to my settings which sends me to my account??? The only thing I see with avatars is them being downloadable.
Go to your account, and then near the empty image of your avatar it should appear a button to "change" it, from there you click and then you upload the avatar from you computer.

Cardian: It actually pulls a Monty Python and turns into an RTS later on. And now for something completely different.
avatar
dedoporno: As a fellow member said some undetermined time ago (I lost all perspective of time by now) - you learn something new every day.
It's a bit disingenuous to say it "turns into an RTS" because you still have play it as a hack-and-slash to win. You do have to secure resource points and spend points on new units, but you're still rushing into the thick of battle, performing double-team moves, and using your axe and magic to kill everything in sight. A lot of people who have played it make the error of assuming your character is a "cursor" who's supposed to remain above the battlefield and they wonder why they can't win the battles because of awkward controls and such.

As far as I remember the most important plot lines were resolved, so this shouldn't be that big of a problem.
