Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

dedoporno: A couple of factors should be considered here.

If I remeber correctly JK2 had 60% discount which means it was offered at $11.99.

RCR was at $3.74 (was it?), which is around three times cheaper.

JK2 sold 100 copies in 5 hours - roughly 20 copies per hour.
RCR sold 600 copies in 8 hours - roughly 75 copies per hour.

If you compensate the price difference you'll get around 25 copies per hour for RCR which isn't so far from JK2.

Cardian: But then you also have to consider that being in round two and having sold fewer copies before, the saturation on Keane was much lower and therefore it had a bigger chance to move faster ;)
This is true of course. My point was that the overall price of JK2 is too high and most likely became a deal-breaker for most and a show-stopper for everyone :)
Im getting a bad feeling we're gonna see Cognition soon... and 1200 copies of it :S

GhostwriterDoF: Has anyone here actually played the Jack Keane games?
I played the first one. I enjoyed it, but not enough that I was bothered about playing a sequel.

golea: The first one. Nice little adventure game, not special, not horrible.
I'm not really into point and click adventure games, but I have found a few that were fun, which I only got because they were here on GoG and promoted in a sale.

Gemini Rue, Tales from Monkey Island, Botanicula, Machinarium, and Book of Unwritten Tales.

Though I've not been able to get far in the Monkey Island series, all are good games and surprisingly kept me interested.
How do you gift games?
Isn't it strange that on a planet with billion/millions of people there aren't enough
people to buy 30 copies of this game..

I suspect the algorithm of this promotion event is more like number X 10 or multiply X100 in reality?

Yeah, that's probably true. I guess it's also ts very important factor on some other titles that were close to Keaning like Cognition, Dragon Commander and even Larry.

groze: People have been bastardizing the meaning of keaning and The Keane because they weren't there like we were. And even some who were have been using it with abandon on all sorts of uncalled situations.

No one who spent those four and a half hours barely watching the counter move, in total despair, waiting for 100, then 83, then 50 copies of Our Lord Keane to sell is going to use the sacred words in vain.

There are already other games that took longer than Jack Keane 2 to be sold, but the sheer psychological factor that The Keane had only 100 copies to sell and for hours on end the counter didn't move at all, to the point we started thinking GOG was removing 2 copies of the game every 10 minutes, because there was no way people were buying it, makes it the hardest game to endure during this sale. Hands down.

The Keane reigns supreme.

Craig234: I was there. That's why I can correct that the next big wall after 83 was 70.
Indeed. There were a few, I just mentioned the ones that took longer. Those 83 copies left of Jack Keane 2, though, hovered on the front page for 2 and a half hours!

My point being that other games surely took longer, but at least the sales were moving, it wasn't as despairing as The Keaneage. There were moments when I actually thought that was the end of the sale. No one thought that during the Retro City Rampage Desert Trial because, slowly as it may have been, the game was selling.

So, I'm not saying a game is keaning unless it stalls and stops at one number for at least 45 minutes.

Fictionvision: Nope because they aren't a part of this sale.
avatar
Thrasher1984: Seriously? They're quite frequently on sale on Steam. GOG's missing out here...
Yep, they're regularly on sale here too. Just not now. Cos, you know, if they had put all 657 games in the GOG catalogue in this sale, we'd have been here til next November.

On the good side, GOG's Christmas sales are legendary, so if you're prepared to wait you're very likely to get them for a good price.

I bought it round 1 or 2, did my part.

Check the "Select to gift this order" button and send it to your own email. You'll have the code in your "gifts" tab.

spoonwhale: How do you gift games?
When you buy a game, you have the option to buy it as a gift. You will be asked to provide an email, just use you're own email and you will have the code sent to you, Then you can redeem it for yourself or use it to trade, or gift it to someone.

Pretty much what proxymoron said, only I'll try the sequel when the price becomes more reasonable. The first one was a decent adventure, just don't expect Monkey Island.
