Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

dedoporno: As a matter of fact the first JK is an OK game. It's most definitely not a great game, but not a terrible one, either. Haven't played the second one and I find it weird how so many people here bash on it without even trying it first. The only thing I do get is that it is probably overpriced.

FreDDaN: Wohoo I got Tomb Raider Trilogy now I'm NEVER gonna look anymore at this sale again!
avatar
dedoporno: Keep telling yourself that :)
Glad you like the game, may I clarify my intention for you ? I refer to the quality of patience, as symbolized by the wait we experienced. Not trying to offend your choice of games.

BastienN: NWN
Tomb Raider 1 2 3

Damn is my memory so bad? Others will complete the list :)
avatar
BlueLemon: Your memory is good. You just missed out the freebie Magrunner, which doesn't count anyway. :)

EDIT: Just realised Magrunner has been up for sale previously (in third round) as well..
Yep ! Thanks for the answer

Frostyfirefly: Does anybody have a Thief 3, Theme Hospital or Spellforce code to spare? A friend was looking for one of those.
avatar
Alien8n: Spellforce is still to come if they don't mind paying for it. That said someone probably has a free key somewhere :)
Cool, I'll get my mouse ready for that feebie; I already have Spellforce so I want to give him the code, and sadly, my debit card has reached the maximum no. of transactions for today.

Alien8n: It's not that it's a bad game, just the wrong game for this kind of sale. Hence why it sold so slowly when it appeared. Look at the games that have sold really well, the BG games, and TH, SS2, most people are here for what you would call the classics. They also want them for a knockdown price, mainly because there's not much point paying $20 for a game you already own and have sat in a box next to your pc. But $1.99 makes sense if it means you no longer have to swap out the discs.
avatar
dedoporno: I totally agree with you on JK being out of it's league among a number of the other titles. My point is that the problem was gone the moment the offer got out of the way. Too many people continued to trash it even after that, despite not having played it at all. For me this doesn't make sense.

And I believe you'll agree that a slow selling game (at least in this sale) most certainly doesn't mean a bad game.
Oh agreed, but it's just one of those internet things. It was so bad when it was selling it kind of sticks and becomes the reference for all other slow selling games. From then on it's into the annals of internet folklore and away we go :)

Plus it stopped everyone from going insane (well, more insane) from sleep deprivation over the weekend :)

Oh, I don't like it so much, it's just not that bad of a game. I'm sure many people worked hard for it and just want to give them at least some credit for it. Don't get me wrong. I'm OK with using it as a byword for slow-selling and in-the-way offer, because that it was. I just don't think it is sensible to judge it as a game without even trying it.
Meh.. Puddle Keane is really going slow.... I went to make lunch, ate it slowly, washed the dishes and Puddle has still 100 copies left...

bringthemback: Anyone happens to have an extra 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream' key avail for trade? =)
Yes. The main thing I'm looking for is sword of the stars the pit dlc.

zlep: The article is funny, and it's nice to see our little part of the world being talked about elsewhere, but I think the last line is uncalled for:

"Let’s just hope that lessons have been learned, and that we’ll never see Jack Keane 2 again after this ordeal."

Jokes aside, the only lesson to be learned is that putting a premium-priced point-and-click up against cheap-as-chips bona fide classics is a bad idea. Yes, the Keaning will remain a turning point in all our lives, an event significant enough to pass down the memory to our children's children, but it was caused by inappropriate pricing, not by Jack Keane 2 being a bad game.

Personally, I very much hope that we *do* see Jack Keane 2 again after this ordeal. Adventure games deserve better than they're getting from the mainstream gaming sites these days. If Omerta, which had considerable gameplay issues, can rise from the ashes by being repackaged and better priced, I expect the same for Jack Keane 2 once it's been out long enough to be price-matched better against its competition.

skeletonbow: Indeed, I made comments of that nature about 20000 posts earlier in the thread too (LOL), it's just bad placement. The game series actually looks quite interesting and seems very popular from what I find online. I'll pick it and the first one up sometime likely when they drop down to sub $5 on sale.
Yeah, this is one thread where you really can't blame people for not knowing what came before. Someone mentioned that GOG should print it in hardback and sell it as "The Chronicles of the Keaning" memorial edition. At 1520 pages and counting, treating it as a necessary cultural artifact is the only way people could ever find the time to read it all. If GOG didn't limit the results, doing a search for "Keane" in this thread would blow up the server. :-)

Actually that was the first time I learned to appreciate these offers. For the last 40 or so hours I found myself hoping for a slow-seller just to get some shuteye, some other work done or get out of the house for a while. These titles have their use, also :)

I managed to miss Torment, Neverwinter Nights, and especially Neverwinter Nights 2... 4 days of being glued to the computer for nothing. :(

Oh well, I still had fun hanging out with all of you pleasant chaps on the forums. :)
Has jade empire come yet?

kcrabb: Has jade empire come yet?
Nope.
This promo seems like it's been going on forever...

Maybe they should stick to two rounds the next time they do this.
