Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

dedoporno: As a matter of fact the first JK is an OK game. It's most definitely not a great game, but not a terrible one, either. Haven't played the second one and I find it weird how so many people here bash on it without even trying it first. The only thing I do get is that it is probably overpriced.

FreDDaN: Wohoo I got Tomb Raider Trilogy now I'm NEVER gonna look anymore at this sale again!

dedoporno: Keep telling yourself that :)
It's not that it's a bad game, just the wrong game for this kind of sale. Hence why it sold so slowly when it appeared. Look at the games that have sold really well, the BG games, and TH, SS2, most people are here for what you would call the classics. They also want them for a knockdown price, mainly because there's not much point paying $20 for a game you already own and have sat in a box next to your pc. But $1.99 makes sense if it means you no longer have to swap out the discs.

No idea, I just said what you wanted to hear.
Anyone happens to have an extra 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream' key avail for trade? =)

zlep: The article is funny, and it's nice to see our little part of the world being talked about elsewhere, but I think the last line is uncalled for:

"Let’s just hope that lessons have been learned, and that we’ll never see Jack Keane 2 again after this ordeal."

Jokes aside, the only lesson to be learned is that putting a premium-priced point-and-click up against cheap-as-chips bona fide classics is a bad idea. Yes, the Keaning will remain a turning point in all our lives, an event significant enough to pass down the memory to our children's children, but it was caused by inappropriate pricing, not by Jack Keane 2 being a bad game.

Personally, I very much hope that we *do* see Jack Keane 2 again after this ordeal. Adventure games deserve better than they're getting from the mainstream gaming sites these days. If Omerta, which had considerable gameplay issues, can rise from the ashes by being repackaged and better priced, I expect the same for Jack Keane 2 once it's been out long enough to be price-matched better against its competition.
Indeed, I made comments of that nature about 20000 posts earlier in the thread too (LOL), it's just bad placement. The game series actually looks quite interesting and seems very popular from what I find online. I'll pick it and the first one up sometime likely when they drop down to sub $5 on sale.

skeletonbow: I have all the Rainbow Six games but want to play them from the first onward and can't for the life of me get either of the first two games to work on a modern operating system. They're all boxed versions. I never scoured the web exhaustively to see if anyone has any solutions mind you, but if anyone knows how to get them to work and steered me in the right direction that'd be awesome too. :) Rogue Spear was the first TCS game I ever played and it blew my mind, although that was on Windows 98SE a zillion years ago. I should perhaps install 98SE into a virtual machine and see if the Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear games would work in that environment, although it's probably next to impossible to get all the updates and stuff for Windows 98SE to function properly nowadays.

Daliz: It's a shame really that no-one does these kinds of games anymore. The original R6 trilogy is still the best and Raven Shield came in 2003. Maybe it's too difficult and hardcore for todays average gamer. It's really a dead genre. :(
I haven't followed things over time very well so I'm still fired up with enthusiasm for the genre but have to go through all the older games first anyway. I'm interested in ArmA 3 also, but dont have a clue how it stacks up tactically with the older games. I'm sure I'll like it either way though. :) One thing I liked about Rogue Spear, and I don't know if it was configurable or not, but basically - if you get hit by one bullet - you're fuckin dead. Maybe 2 if you're lucky. No health packs or body armour that is like an Abrams tank. That made things INTENSE. I f'n loved it. Even Ghost Recon was easy in comparison.

Your memory is good. You just missed out the freebie Magrunner, which doesn't count anyway. :)

EDIT: Just realised Magrunner has been up for sale previously (in third round) as well..

I'll try my luck one more time and then call it quits till the Christmas sale.
Anyone out there with a spare Assassin's Creed key they don't mind letting go, I got a few games to trade (or I can buy you something from the ongoing deals if interested, I will be awake for at least 10 more hours :) )

Thanks in advance
Does anybody have a Thief 3, Theme Hospital or Spellforce code to spare? A friend was looking for one of those.

I totally agree with you on JK being out of it's league among a number of the other titles. My point is that the problem was gone the moment the offer got out of the way. Too many people continued to trash it even after that, despite not having played it at all. For me this doesn't make sense.

And I believe you'll agree that a slow selling game (at least in this sale) most certainly doesn't mean a bad game.

I'm sorry to tell you that there really isn't many games like R6;

-All R6 games post-Raven Shield pretty much suck and/or are un-tactical.
-SWAT 3 and 4 are kind of similar, good games.
-GRAW 1 & 2 are good but not nearly as good as original Ghost Recon IMO. They also lack proper terrorist hunt etc. modes.
-The Regiment which is fun for a little while but not really good IMO.

And the newest of these games is what.. 2008?

ArmA series has been quite fun until the commander missions start.. I just can't stand the friendly AI I'm supposed to command around.

Oh and Takedown. We'll see about that.. it was released broken and with crucial features missing.

Spellforce is still to come if they don't mind paying for it. That said someone probably has a free key somewhere :)
