Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

BananaJane: Yeah I know what you mean, I"ve fallen asleep playing mass effect like 20 times, I keep giving up on the game once I get to the big city

nightrunner227: I feel you. I never understood what people saw in Mass Effect. I have it, I tried to play it, but I never could get into it. Never tried the second one though, so I may give it a shot to see if it's any better.
It's slightly odd at first, I don't really know why. But for me it was worth it, because the story and the gameplay were pretty fun; the first one we can argue about the other two.

peanutsticks: HOMM3 is a classic of the highest order! (and unfortunately GOG has been going crazy with the #'s on the 3rd round classics)

They'll probably drop 1200 copies and cause it to grind to a slow halt at ~300 left or something crazy.

GabiMoro: In my opinion Heroes 3 should sell like crazy. I think its the best game ever.
+1 to that!

Cardian: What? Who does that? FFXIII got bashed almost everywhere, as far as I know and for a good reason. FFXIII-2 on the other hand I quite enjoyed. But the better Final Fantasies are made by Mistwalker Studios. Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on XB360 are awesome and Bravely Default is very cool so far, too. Although, that's made by SquareEnix.

Knofbath: Blue Dragon had you searching the scenery for little worthless items and "nothings." I had to give up, I'm too OCD for that shit.
Nothing. Lost. Detected. Lost. Play. Item.
Just to get that ladies voice stuck in your brain.

richiev333: Please do...

wackyanne: I appear to have gambled and won. While IHNM&MS is ticking away faster than some, I'm back with plenty of time to spare.

So, anybody want to speculate on how GOG determines the order in which these games are being rotated? Thoughtful ones, please, and not whining or conspiracy-theories ;)
Only the aliens from Zeta Reticuli can determine the rotation. XD
I was sleeping for 8 hours. Did I miss Thief 1 and 2?

sharp299: It´s true but there is some games have abusive prices... in my opinion

skeletonbow: Does anyone ever pay full price for games on Steam though? :) I've got something like 102 games on Steam ATM, and probably 40-50 codes not yet registered from bundles and whatnot. The most I've paid for any Steam game so far relatively speaking is about 75% discount off the regular price. One might think "yeah but they're all old crappy games or low quality indie titles" but my Steam collection is mostly AA and AAA titles with a handful of great quality indies also. Just gotta know where and when to shop to get the good deals. ;oP

Having said that though, I wouldn't buy or recommend buying any old DOS era games or even Win95/98 games on Steam as they're probably not updated for modern Windows like GOG games are - unless they specify that they are updated or remakes anyway. Even then of course GOG is preferred. :)
I would never pay full price for a game on steam. The discounts would have to be heavily because i don't really like using there client to always load up a game. It's very annoying plus having to have an internet connection with them because some places I'm stuck at don't have internet or have crappy internet.

Mass Effect starts off slow. You really have to wade through it until you go renegade before the action picks up. Those of us who grew up with the "slow burner" games of the 80's don't find that as big a hurdle as the younger "get me in the action, now" crowd. Also, keep in mind that trying to do every side-quest will slow you down. You can skip them and just focus on the main quest line.

skeletonbow: They sure were! I have 4 of them in my basement still, all working. Haven't fired one up in about 8 years though, but I had fun playing Raid on Bungaling Bay with it last time on a 65" TV which was not something I ever could have pictured myself doing in the future back in the 1980s. :) I've been getting the urge to dig them out again sometime soon for a C64 nostalgia party of sorts with friends from that era. :)

Briareos262: for me it was Wasteland that blew me away and is among my favorites in top pc games. I also did enjoy Bard's Tale, Ultima, Necromancer, Maniac Mansion, Zak Mckracken, and a couple others. Gosh there was alot of great games, good memories.
I don't think I ever played Wasteland but based purely on the demand and word of mouth it gets here it is on my wishlist and I'm going to pick it up when it is on a future sale. I've got a huge stack of graph paper here wasting away might as well put it to use. :)

masterotaku: I was sleeping for 8 hours. Did I miss Thief 1 and 2?
Nope.
I have no Jack and I must Keane?

No. Like somebody a few days ago said: If you can see the numbers change then the game is not keaning.

masterotaku: I was sleeping for 8 hours. Did I miss Thief 1 and 2?
Nope, still on the list.

Not yet. The Thief games are coming up afaik.
We're getting close to 30'000 here
Has anyone ever played NetStorm: Islands At War? It was released in 1997 and is an RTS which involves building on floating islands.

I remember playing a demo roughly when this came out, from a PC magazine disc, which involved building towers on floating islands and was an RTS. Have there been any other similar games which it could have been if it was not this one?

I would link to the wikipedia page, but I am getting an error: "You cannot post any links at this moment."

If you needed to, you could set Steam to Offline Mode. It seems to work pretty well nowadays.
