Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Does anyone have Cannon Fodder 1 or 2 or Sensible Soccer 96 for trade?

Knofbath: I wasn't impressed with the FFs this generation. Too QTE and actiony for my tastes.

nightrunner227: Everyone keeps praising FFXIII. I've tried playing it now on at least 10 different occasions, and I just never can enjoy it. I did love FFX, though.
I guess you are supposed to play a shitload of on-rails chapters and eventually the game world opens up. I haven't made it that far.

Khalaq: ... but the experiment has largely been successful. I, for one, feel that success to be well-deserved, and I wish GOG all the best.
Kicinski brothers are well known businessmen here in Poland. I will repeat this all the time. Polish editions (localization) of BG and Torment they published were the first indicators that we are dealing with seriously smart guys. It is really funny now to watch Kicinski on local CNBC and stock market guys talikng about the Witcher.

Yeah I know what you mean, I"ve fallen asleep playing mass effect like 20 times, I keep giving up on the game once I get to the big city

Cardian: As a Good Old Gamer you might like 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a PS3 exclusive about the wonders of 8bit Roleplaying in the line of Zelda. It's quite fun and can be really hard.
avatar
Alien8n: Yeah, I've heard of it, but it's not hit my "must buy this game" buttons yet.

Ironically the only reason I bought the PS3 was for the blu ray and because every FF game prior to the PS3 had been a Sony exclusive...
That's an especially interesting case with this gen, considering the absolute hatred the FFXIII series gets by gamers everywhere.

Also, I hope you're just talking about FFVII onwards as "Sony exclusive." There's a lot of people who convince themselves that the series didn't exist until that game. They'd be missing out on some great times, particularly with the SNES trilogy.

Briareos262: I still have my old C64, not sure it works still. It was a wonderful machine for its time =)

skeletonbow: They sure were! I have 4 of them in my basement still, all working. Haven't fired one up in about 8 years though, but I had fun playing Raid on Bungaling Bay with it last time on a 65" TV which was not something I ever could have pictured myself doing in the future back in the 1980s. :) I've been getting the urge to dig them out again sometime soon for a C64 nostalgia party of sorts with friends from that era. :)
for me it was Wasteland that blew me away and is among my favorites in top pc games. I also did enjoy Bard's Tale, Ultima, Necromancer, Maniac Mansion, Zak Mckracken, and a couple others. Gosh there was alot of great games, good memories.

Cardian: What? Who does that? FFXIII got bashed almost everywhere, as far as I know and for a good reason. FFXIII-2 on the other hand I quite enjoyed. But the better Final Fantasies are made by Mistwalker Studios. Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on XB360 are awesome and Bravely Default is very cool so far, too. Although, that's made by SquareEnix.
Blue Dragon had you searching the scenery for little worthless items and "nothings." I had to give up, I'm too OCD for that shit.

BananaJane: Yeah, if you ever wanna go on steam, everyone is always complaining about anything made in the 90's.
An 80's game will come out on steam and everyone's reaction is "6$ FOR THIS SHIT?"
avatar
sharp299: It´s true but there is some games have abusive prices... in my opinion
Does anyone ever pay full price for games on Steam though? :) I've got something like 102 games on Steam ATM, and probably 40-50 codes not yet registered from bundles and whatnot. The most I've paid for any Steam game so far relatively speaking is about 75% discount off the regular price. One might think "yeah but they're all old crappy games or low quality indie titles" but my Steam collection is mostly AA and AAA titles with a handful of great quality indies also. Just gotta know where and when to shop to get the good deals. ;oP

Having said that though, I wouldn't buy or recommend buying any old DOS era games or even Win95/98 games on Steam as they're probably not updated for modern Windows like GOG games are - unless they specify that they are updated or remakes anyway. Even then of course GOG is preferred. :)
man a lot of ninja's in this thread, I need some coffee to be more awake :)

Series really went downhill for me after X also. X-2 was horrible, they've really given up on story and gone all into graphics or something.

FFVI is my favourite in the series. For the opera scene alone, it would be.
