Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

How many of you are thinking to yourselves: "I have a mouth, and "I have no mouth and I must scream" is making me want to scream!"? ;oP
Finally! I passed on IHNMAIMS the first time round, then the second time around I decided to actually look into the game as it looked sci-fi ish, it sounded ok, nothing that really grabbed me, though a good mature story is something I don't see in many games these days so I figured I would get it. Unfortunately it had sold by the time I'd made up my mind, so I've been waiting for days to see it to go back on sale, sleeping no more than an hour or two at a time for a game that I only had a passing interest in, but every sale that I waited through made me more determined to get the damn game. I swear this sale is based on some kind of psychological warfare to give me sleep deprivation and destroy my ability to think rationally enough to just pay the extra $4 and get a couple of decent nights of sleep ;).

Devoidless: So, anyone else here play VTM:B? Rhetorical question, of course you do. Right? Right?

Good.

Now that we've established that we all play it and agree that it's one of the best games ever made (it was in the fine print), how do we like to play it?
Prefer the Malks with their odd ability to see the truth through all the bull?
The Ventrue that shmoozes through life?

Maybe you like to get up close and snap some necks. Maybe you like taking them out from far away with shooty-bangs.

Devoidless: I'm glad you asked, sir! You must be quite the fine specimen of the human race to inquire about such. You are also, no doubt, virile and handsome as the gods of yore. You probably smell nice as well, to boot.

To answer! I love playing as the Malks. There is something about running around as a totally insane vampire with dark powers. What's even better than that? The same vampire running around with firearms. Dressed as a pimp.
Just sayin'.
Ye, pity it is not here, I had to buy it on Steam :/

Knofbath: I didn't pick up the PS3 until last year. Had to spend a bit of time researching games, but I had 5 years of games and reviews to pick through so I could be selective about it.

Alien8n: So far there are only really 2 games that scream "buy the PS3" for me. The Last Of Us and Infamous. Everything else is also available on the Xbox.

That said, Infamous was a bit of a let down. Amazing graphics, innovative gameplay, and completed 3 times in 2 days from start to finish :/

And what was with that final battle? Way too hard to complete it without reverting back to easy mode just for that battle :(
As a Good Old Gamer you might like 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a PS3 exclusive about the wonders of 8bit Roleplaying in the line of Zelda. It's quite fun and can be really hard.

Cardian: This awesome background music for this sale.

skeletonbow: Yeah, sure brings back memories of the 80s on the C64. Rob Hubbard was a musical genius and certainly one of the best video game music composers of the 80s. That song is IMHO one of the best ones he worked on. The machine only had 3 voices and some percussion noises in the SID chip IIRC, but there is rich polyphony going on in there with all the swirling filters and whatnot. He really made the SID chip sing more than the designers of the chip likely ever expected were possible with it. Great stuff! :)
I still have my old C64, not sure it works still. It was a wonderful machine for its time =)

I highly recommend you read the short story the game was based on. It will help you stay awake for any other games you're waiting for. =P
Anyone with a copy of Assassin's Creed they don't want? :}
Well... time for some coffee... that could take a LONG time.

I also recommend this game. It has a very Link to the Past vibe. You can create your own character design too which looks like it'll take ages to do. I have it and it is indeed a fun game.

skeletonbow: Ah, if you truly miss it... Set up a Linux machine if you don' t have one already, or install it into a virtual machine such as VMware or VirtualBox for free, then try to get all of the DOS games to work in DOSbox in Linux and Windows games in wine. Weeks worth of entertainment for the dedicated gamer that likes solving OS and software problems, hehehe. :oP
avatar
Cardian: But that's the thing. If it can be achieved in an easier way, I don't want to do it. It was fun while it had to be done but I'm not creating more work than I have to ;)
Indeed. :) Linux is my platform of choice and I've spent almost 2 decades developing for Linux and at the end of the day I want to play games, not engineer them to work. :) That'll change in the near future though as it's getting a lot more attention now especially because of Valve's SteamOS plans. I have a feeling that if and when that becomes successful, perhaps GOG will eventually be able to branch out and do a similar thing of sorts. That'd be cool. :)

Yeah, I've heard of it, but it's not hit my "must buy this game" buttons yet.

Ironically the only reason I bought the PS3 was for the blu ray and because every FF game prior to the PS3 had been a Sony exclusive...
