Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

nemesismartyn: Did i miss something after La Mulana?
Nah, went straight to Tropico

positivew: Although I missed Theme Hospital on all three rounds somehow, I still bought it, even if it was the whole whopping $5.99. Great game, played it at a friend's place a long time ago, still remember the good times.
I'm sure a good amount of people caved into buying a game normal price due to the frustration of waiting and waiting for their game to show up. I was half about to do that with Don't Starve, luckily I was around the 3rd round to get it. However honestly i don't think I would have gotten it at full price, I probably would have just waited for another sale. I don't really have money to buy stuff full price. I need a better job for that =P
Still 95 to go I see.

(wonder how long Tropico has been going for)

Knofbath: I got tired of bouncing back and forth trying to follow the thread, so I maxed my view out to 50/page.

Cardian: Yeah, that's what I thought, I have 15 myself.... I blame insomnia.
In any case, your original post is on the previous page for me, and none of the newcomers are likely to see it by now.

wackyanne: I joined this site this spring, discovering that it carried the Sierra classics. For some reason I've kept missing the sales on those, and I hopped onto this sale hoping some of them would come up. However, once I grabbed Duke Nukem 3D for a laugh at a price less than most pay for a cup of coffee, I was hooked. I've been picking up the D&D games since I've enjoyed a couple (NWN1 and BG1) and I've been getting back to the tabletop instead of the laptop these last several months. Now, I'm waiting up for NWN1, since I'm not sure we even have the physical copy anymore.
But you know what? It took this sale for me to discover this great community, and to even play the free game I got in some promo or another months ago. It was Torchlight, and it's awesome, and so I've two great discoveries, and a handful of bargains, to thank GOG's Insomnia Sale for.
Yeah, I started out drawn here by Tex Murphy freebies ages ago, then another freebie I forget, then occasionally I'd come and see if there were other free games. That was before I paid enough attention to know what GOG was really all about though. Once I actually stayed long enough to read about the DRM-free nature of things and their philosophy and really peruse the site I kicked myself for not being more observant before! I decided that at some point I would start buying games and really get into the site but I just wasn't into a big gaming binge at the moment. A half a year of keeping an eye on their newsletters and finally a sale came on that sparked me to impulsively make my first purchase. The experience was great and one of the easiest checkout systems ever, so a few days later -> another sale, and another and .... before I knew it I was mainlining games right into my jugular and snorting them. LOL

A hour-and-a-half so far. I foolishly predicted that'd take about an hour, when it was at 250 copies sold 22 minutes in...

Found this site entirely by accident when I realized that my backup copies of Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire had gone missing. I was so upset and spent FOREVER pouring over the web to find it. Eventually I found this site and the rest is history. :-)

Cardian: I'm bored. So, I'm handing out System Shock 2 (GoG). But I have conditions.

You have to be a true follower of The Keaning, so you need to have participated a bit in this thread before. I also want a little Haiku about The Keaning (that's a poem, doesn't need to rhyme, syllables are 5-7-5). Ok, go!

P.S.: No PMs, they have to be posted here. You'll have 5 pages of time.

Time's up anyway. I really liked all of your Haikus and it's a tough decision. I deem the winner *drumroll*

CarrionCrow. I think it's quite emotional and it even adds some kind of new perspective in the last line. Also, I really wanted it to go to someone who wanted it for himself.

Revenile: Nobody has claimed it yet, since no seems interested in trades, I'll plug it into your pm
Thanks a bunch for your generosity, and +1!
I wonder how Heroes 3 will sell. First round went very fast but I heard it did quite slow in the second.

Thank you, both for the item and the compliment. It's much appreciated.
Edit - Tried at least 30 times over the last 5 days to grab a freebie game, and didn't get a single one. Ended up getting one by way of someone being cool. Extremely pleasant surprise.
