Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

northern7: I'd say you are wrong...i'd be willing to bet that sales were actually much stronger - many many more impulse buys with people spending on things they had no intention to to begin with - this sale is a cash cow for them and other online distributors will imitate. It has already been mentioned by the guys at gamefly or getgames that they are interested in perhaps doing the same thing.
avatar
tim-tom: When the sale started I was only planning on buying 3 or 4 games. I ended up with 29 and still waiting for brutal legend.
Same here, I didnt really have plans to pickup any games this month but so far Ive got 10 from this sale [2 of those being gifted]. Im still looking to pickup 2 or 3 more XD
If anyone is interested in trades, I have to offer the following games on steam:

Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box
Crysis 2 Maximum
Medal of Honor
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 Uprising (Person who originally wanted it already had it, the key should still be good)

I'm hoping to trade for:

Jade Empire
Thief 2
Thief 3

Briareos262: GoG and steam are it for me. I'm not gonna get into too many distribution places.

stevekharon: But on Green man Gaming it tells you if you need Steam (This game requires a free Steam account to play.)
So you're not out of Steam platform with great rebate sometimes.
Indeed, and if you pay attention to their website close enough they have vouchers for 20% off almost all games all the time, and 25% off select titles both of which can be used in concert with the sales. So all their promos you can knock an extra 20-25% off the majority of. Every game I've got there so far I got the additional 25% discount. I use http://www.dealzon.com and http://www.epicbundle.com to track all of their voucher codes as well as all the sales and bundles that are going on everywhere.

So far the only games I've bought anywhere were either GOG games, or Steam games from greenmangaming and gamersgate, and steam/desura games from the various bundles as well as direct download games from most of the same, many of which are DRM-free outside of GOG. I've completely avoided buying any games that used uPlay or Origin although I have some freebies on those services won in forum giveaways. ;)

What's funny, is I've got over 100 games on Steam now and I only bought 2 of them actually from Steam. All of the Steam codes came from bundles and other sites and a number of GOG forum giveaways and the like. :)

Great time for gaming that's for sure! :)

Pabluzcu: I gotta go for a while, probably be back for the next after this one if it keeps keaning like this. Considering that Im waitng for only 2-3 games from the List, I would be VERY unlucky if the next games after this one are the Thieves, or Jade. :S

Let us hope that El Presidente chooses Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller $10.09 as his succesor :P

(dont hate me)
avatar
TehK47z: I can't hate you. It's all too common of an opinion. I'll just have to drown my sorrows in something. Not sure if I should go for tea or rum, honestly.
Well, there's always the option of tea WITH rum ^_^

hehe I must have gotten the same bundles as you. I have all the same games on the same platforms.

Knofbath: Tropico 3 has you managing a small Caribbean island as a despot. You build up the islands production and resources while trying to keep the people happy or quelling revolts. You can play it as a benevolent patriarch or ruthless dictator kept in power by force. They generally give you a set of goals and a time period of office. You'll have to balance relations with the foreign powers of the US and USSR, the time period is generally the 50s to 70s, so expect retro music and events from that time period.
avatar
JohnnyDollar: How would rank the 3 games?
There are actually 4 games, the first one and third are the only one's I've played in the series. First one is pretty dated graphics wise, it's also harder. Each game has a slightly different set of objectives, like one of the first missions in three is setting up an island full of hippies.
avatar
northern7: yup...and I bet at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the sales have been from people who came and originally had no intention on buying this...this sale is made for manufacturing impulse buys.
avatar
skeletonbow: All sales anywhere will have impulse buys as there are always impulsive people out there. I'm not really an impulsive person myself however I've bought a number of things impulsively this year from GOG and the various bundle sites primarily due to the prices being so hot for the perceived value. ;) Mind you, despite the number of buys I don't really spend money impulsively or frivolously on anything else, don't have cable TV or satellite or any other recurring entertainment expenses so my gaming budget is pretty cheap compared to the average person for the most part, and a great deal no matter how one slices it hehe.

Let us not forget though that the idea of promotions - is to promote, both the games themselves as well as GOG, and I've noted a large number of newbies to the forum posting in this and other threads so I think the sale is drawing all kinds of new customers to GOG (impulsively or otherwise) that they never had before and getting some good word of mouth. I have a good feeling that this is going to translate to GOG sales increasing and their "buying power" so to speak allowing them to do more to bring on more publishers and titles in the future. It's kind of cool to be a part of the whole GOG community and watch this business grow from the ground up grass roots. I read somewhere that GOG is allegedly the 2nd largest online digital distributor lately. I don't know if that is factual or not but it surprised me in a good way (if it is true), and would suggest we've all got some good things in store for us from them in the future. :)

Just wait for the holiday sales to start if you really really want to see impulsive buying on promotions. :) I know I'm probably going to go crazy again this year clearing off some items from my wishlist. :)

Take care.
I joined this site this spring, discovering that it carried the Sierra classics. For some reason I've kept missing the sales on those, and I hopped onto this sale hoping some of them would come up. However, once I grabbed Duke Nukem 3D for a laugh at a price less than most pay for a cup of coffee, I was hooked. I've been picking up the D&D games since I've enjoyed a couple (NWN1 and BG1) and I've been getting back to the tabletop instead of the laptop these last several months. Now, I'm waiting up for NWN1, since I'm not sure we even have the physical copy anymore.
But you know what? It took this sale for me to discover this great community, and to even play the free game I got in some promo or another months ago. It was Torchlight, and it's awesome, and so I've two great discoveries, and a handful of bargains, to thank GOG's Insomnia Sale for.

All that being said, I don't suppose has a spare copy of Quest for Glory 1-5 lying around? ;)
Does anyone remember when the third round started? My brain has turned to jelly. Was it Thursday night?
I got a Planescape: Torment key for trade. Looking for HOMM3, but i'll be at work when it comes up.... so if anyone will trade it (now or when it goes up).

Drop me a PM if you can (and will :) ) help out!

JohnnyDollar: How would rank the 3 games, assuming you've played them?
Original Tropico - 9/10 (for more hardcore strategy/city-builder types who like a challenge/re-playability [thats me])
Tropic 3 & 4 - 7.5/10 (more casual friendly/easier + better graphics + better atmosphere)

Tropico 3 & 4 are essentially the same game. Really no reason 4 should have ever been released as a standalone.

Thanks! I got the Medal of Honor code. Tried to redeem Populous as well, but it'd already been used.
