Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

saruchan: Let's talk about HoMM3 for a minute! I have HoMM 3 vanilla, and have been trying to wait for the Complete to come back around in the sale. My current budget is such that I can't swing it full price, though I can just manage the sale price. However, I'm sick, and I don't know if I can wait much more tonight. I adore the game, but is it worth waiting more for or should I take the gamble that it might still be available in 8 hours and go to bed? (I should note that I also can't seem to find my disc for it, though it is currently installed on my system and thus can't have gone *too* far.)

MGShogun: I think the best scenario is that you wait for the holiday sales. However, that is up to you.

Your health come first and HoMM3 will be sale in matter of few weeks if you can wait.

This sale is too randomy as hell.
Advice accepted! I can always hope one of the slow sellers left comes up first.

SpiderFighter: Ok guys n gals, that's it for me. Bed time. Could someone please take over the lists for me? I'd be very much appreciative, as I'm sure any incoming GOGgers will be as well.
I am only here for Thief 2 - if I can make that...goodnight to you. :)
wow all these potential NWN1 and Jade Empire buyers dropping off......

Tropico 3. Good game.

Buy multiple and trade em :P

GhostwriterDoF: It's not the kind of thing that belongs in the mainstream either, since the majority of people would not be drawn into it in the first place, and most would never understand it....
avatar
Schemilix: I dunno, a lot can be said for putting niche, obscure or taboo topics into the mainstream, but frankly I think the people pioneering that to an ignorant audience need to be a member of that group. It's why in the 80s feminist books were written by women. Not because men cant be feminists, but because back then only women really understood the struggle of being a woman. Many more men understand the topic now.

Trans issues? You'd want to get a trans author to tackle that in fiction. Same for anything of that sort. You need someone who really understands to bring it to people who really don't, I think. It's why the portrayal of homosexuals in media can bother me sometimes. In British media it's usually fine, but in American media it's just as often sensationalised and that's as problematic as treating it as taboo; homosexuals, bisexuals, pansexuals etc. - we're just people.

And the same goes to a lesser extent for BDSM. If you're going to tackle such a topic, have a fucking brain. Don't trick thousands of people into thinking their stupid abusive version of BDSM is what normal, safe-sane-consensual people do. Yeesh.
Well, I'm not saying it should be hidden away either, and the whole "sexual identity" is a beyond me. I understand that those who are, and have been oppressed because of their lifestyle, or because they were born with a developmental process that makes them attracted to what-ever gender feel a need to push back, if only to be left alone.

I'm just feeling there is more to life and more to us, as people, than sex, that no matter our personal preferences, or who we are dating shouldn't and doesn't make us who we are.... As far as gay folks, they seem like regular folk to me, like anyone else... and in Southern California we have all manner of GLBT people running 'round.
well, that's my 3rd and final purchase. time for some R&R

thorton70: Tropico 3 is great, spent a solid 6 hours on that game today between various things I had to do.

Still wish this was Watcher 2 lol.
avatar
northern7: Is that a game about a peeping tom? :P
See Not The Watchers.
Speak Not The Watchers.
Call Not The Watchers' Name.
Write Not The Watchers.
Sculpt Not The Watchers.

Knofbath: I''m up to 20 games this sale, plus another from the "Mix and Mac", way more than I planned on getting.

The sale format forces you to take a close look at the games than you normally would in list form. Though the artificial scarcity is pretty evil.
avatar
RichterSnipes: See, that's the part of this sale that I find really successful. The extra pressure put on individual games makes people examine stuff outside their standard comfort range. It's made me attached to several games I had otherwise only heard of once or twice, that's for sure!
Very much this. I followed the sale to deliberately pick up:
NWN, BG2, IWD, Planescape, JE & AoW (you could call this my niche :)
but while waiting I also grabbed:
Deus Ex, Geneforge, WC4, UW and just now Theme Hospital
Partly to bump the sales along and partly because hey they were $2 and people seem to like them.

If they are squeezing $10 impulsively out of a tightwad like me I am sure they are doing very well out of the average participant.
Alarmed at how slow Tropico 3 is going.

I've just bought it myself thinking it would be a popular one amongst the community.

tim-tom: When the sale started I was only planning on buying 3 or 4 games. I ended up with 29 and still waiting for brutal legend.
avatar
nijuu: Wow..I had two i wanted and ended up with 20 LOL...^5 for impulse buyers!! :)
I've bought: BG 1 & 2 (already had 1 ultimate or whatever on Steam, too), La Mulana, Theme Hospital, Miasmata, NWN 1 & 2, Planescape, Icewind, Witcher 2, Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, Beyond Good and Evil, Rayman Legends, WC IV & Privateer, Shadowman, Populous: The Beginning, Master of Magic, Master of Orion, Tales of Monkey Island, Riddick, Total Annihilation, King of Dragon Pass

PLUS I got Sydicate +, Nox, Divine Divinity, Lands of Lore, Crusader and Lords of the Realm from the weekend sale.

30 games... WTF have I done?!
I have to work tomorrow GOG... If nwn diamond doesn't shows up soon ill have to leave without it :(

I will for a while and ask the same when I leave.

Thanks, good luck on getting it. I was really hoping for Brutal Legend, Heroes of Might & Magic 3, and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, but with my luck they'll probably all pop up next, after I'm in bed.

Revenile: I know that feeling, I would not have gotten U7 if not for this sale. Privateer possibly, since I love open world space games. Seriously if you like that type of genre, look of Evochron Mercenary, only space game I know where the whole universe is seamless, and you can even pilot yourself down to planets, the single guy who makes them even added planet walker mechs in an upgrade at the end of last year.
I'm not really a fan of space games or the Ultima franchise, but those do sound pretty neat. For me, my discovery was with a couple of indie titles. Giana Sisters looks incredible, and I'm a big fan of classic platforming games. La-Mulana combines several styles I really enjoy (platforming, adventure, and puzzle) while having an amazing soundtrack reminiscent of the old days of CD track games. Some of the video footage I saw gave me nostalgia for that stuff, especially Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night.

I'd have known none of that stuff prior to seeing these games on sale here at GOG, and for that I should thank the staff here. I'm happy to support these great-looking gems, especially since they're pushing for the DRM-Free initiative.

If I might butt in...what in the name of all that is holy does this have to do with the sale?
