Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Briareos262: ive never heard of them. Only games I buy during these pre holiday/ holiday sales is mostly just from gog. Some steam too, blasphemy I know, tho I don't pay a whole lot =P

northern7: greenman gaming and gamersgate are two other good online distribuiton sale companies too. Good prices to be had everywhere if you are willing to look.
GoG and steam are it for me. I'm not gonna get into too many distribution places.

northern7: I'd say you are wrong...i'd be willing to bet that sales were actually much stronger - many many more impulse buys with people spending on things they had no intention to to begin with - this sale is a cash cow for them and other online distributors will imitate. It has already been mentioned by the guys at gamefly or getgames that they are interested in perhaps doing the same thing.

tim-tom: When the sale started I was only planning on buying 3 or 4 games. I ended up with 29 and still waiting for brutal legend.
see...case in point...the sale is absolutely brilliant by GOG - very very smart - even if we get upset for waiting or missing.
La-Mulana looks likes its right down my alley. Game get!

I really need to start cutting back on what I buy...

I dunno, a lot can be said for putting niche, obscure or taboo topics into the mainstream, but frankly I think the people pioneering that to an ignorant audience need to be a member of that group. It's why in the 80s feminist books were written by women. Not because men cant be feminists, but because back then only women really understood the struggle of being a woman. Many more men understand the topic now.

Trans issues? You'd want to get a trans author to tackle that in fiction. Same for anything of that sort. You need someone who really understands to bring it to people who really don't, I think. It's why the portrayal of homosexuals in media can bother me sometimes. In British media it's usually fine, but in American media it's just as often sensationalised and that's as problematic as treating it as taboo; homosexuals, bisexuals, pansexuals etc. - we're just people.

And the same goes to a lesser extent for BDSM. If you're going to tackle such a topic, have a fucking brain. Don't trick thousands of people into thinking their stupid abusive version of BDSM is what normal, safe-sane-consensual people do. Yeesh.

I feel exactly the same, with one exception: https://indiegamestand.com/
They have a new indie game on sale (PWYW) every 4 days. There have really been some great ones so far, just check the Past Deals tab.

If it helps, a lot of games from Green Man Gaming are Steam keys.

The stuff they portray in 50 Shades isn't even mainstream in the BDSM 'community', for lack of a better word. If it was better authored, it would be fine. BDSM in of itself is isn't dangerous, vile, cruel or abusive. There are different level, of course, but the stuff in those trash novels is more akin to what happens to sex slaves bought off the black market. It's just not cool.
It would be like introducing someone to the concept of puppies, and only showing them only footage of puppies shitting on carpets, eating shoes and puking on cats.

JohnnyDollar: *looks at registration date* Do you remember when they played that joke and said GOG was shutting down, then they dressed as monks an apologized?
Oh, yes, I remember it well. By that time, GOG had already been "up" and running for quite a while, and the community was already solidly established. The fallout from that was tremendous.

Well, one you ABSOLUTELY have to check out is "the HumbleBundle". Sales for charity, usually with steam keys too. Can often get 5 games for $1 with 2 of them or more being very decent.

But on Green man Gaming it tells you if you need Steam (This game requires a free Steam account to play.)
So you're not out of Steam platform with great rebate sometimes.
