Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

gamingrn: To jpwiseguy, Great avatar image, I still think Doom is the best pure action game and remains a top-class fps as I play it regularly on the xbox.
Thanks! :D

I feel the same way. I would LOVE to see GOG get DOOM 1 and 2, and perhaps QUAKE 1, 2, and 3 as well.

MaximumBunny: A combination of 2 great games...ULTRAHYPED!

ToxicCosmos: My thought exactly.
I've been here for all this time with Jade Empire as my main goal. It's so good, so good. Everyone should buy it. Buy two.

Devoidless: To be fair! That book does a horrible job at the whole BDSM thing. It's just...atrocious. It paints the entire thing in the wrong light. Someone from the outside looking in would just assume that everyone into BDSM is that way and shy away from it.

Stupid trashy novels.

Schemilix: Thank, I am a masochist and her portrayal of the subculture is a pile of wank.
It's not the kind of thing that belongs in the mainstream either, since the majority of people would not be drawn into it in the first place, and most would never understand it....

Hey Toxic, did you manage to kill that spider in your room? :p

Briareos262: I'd say the sales on this promo are slight better than the holiday sales because of the large discounts to alot of the games ^_^

On the flip side tho the holiday sales do usually have nice bundles and at least 50% off of almost entire gog catalog of games. Not sure if they will do the same this year, they did last year tho.

northern7: I'd say you are wrong...i'd be willing to bet that sales were actually much stronger - many many more impulse buys with people spending on things they had no intention to to begin with - this sale is a cash cow for them and other online distributors will imitate. It has already been mentioned by the guys at gamefly or getgames that they are interested in perhaps doing the same thing.
Wouldn't surprise me if they did. I recall GOG doing a "vote on the next game" promo (pick 1 out of 2, winning game gets the deeper discount), and Steam did something similar a few weeks later. I think it was last year some time.

Actually, if there are any left, aren't we due for another freebie? One that a split second later will be done and the same people get?

nijuu: Love to see how getgames does - their prices have always been....ordinary...
avatar
Briareos262: ive never heard of them. Only games I buy during these pre holiday/ holiday sales is mostly just from gog. Some steam too, blasphemy I know, tho I don't pay a whole lot =P
greenman gaming and gamersgate are two other good online distribuiton sale companies too. Good prices to be had everywhere if you are willing to look.

saruchan: Let's talk about HoMM3 for a minute! I have HoMM 3 vanilla, and have been trying to wait for the Complete to come back around in the sale. My current budget is such that I can't swing it full price, though I can just manage the sale price. However, I'm sick, and I don't know if I can wait much more tonight. I adore the game, but is it worth waiting more for or should I take the gamble that it might still be available in 8 hours and go to bed? (I should note that I also can't seem to find my disc for it, though it is currently installed on my system and thus can't have gone *too* far.)
I think the best scenario is that you wait for the holiday sales. However, that is up to you.

Your health come first and HoMM3 will be sale in matter of few weeks if you can wait.

This sale is too randomy as hell.

Buenro-games: I really don't know this Mulana game but it's great to know that Platformers have such a good following among members of the gaming community. Same applies to Psychonauts. I for one am not really into platformers but I think it's great that every genre has it fans. (Platformers I last played are probably Donkey Kong and that Spy guy in the Elevator thingie with the falling lights you could shoot and also squash em with the elevetaros). sigh...
Holy crap... are you talking about *Elevator Action*? Loved that game.

SpiderFighter: I'm surprised how steady this one is. Selling 13-15cpm. At this rate, we'll be on to the next one in just about ten minutes! :)
avatar
northern7: yup...and I bet at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the sales have been from people who came and originally had no intention on buying this...this sale is made for manufacturing impulse buys.
...and it's now dropped to about 3 copies per minute. I think I may have to hit the sack if it doesn't pick back up soon.
Been waiting since Friday morning for Thief 1-3 and NWN1, and now it's looking like I'll probably miss out because I have to go to sleep in an hour and then to work tomorrow.

Regarding La-Mulana: I bought it a while back. It's almost a Metroidvania, but much harder due to devious puzzles and much more intricate level design. Even following a walkthrough is a challenge because the game is so dense.

When the sale started I was only planning on buying 3 or 4 games. I ended up with 29 and still waiting for brutal legend.
As soon as the Christmas sale hits, be sure to check Pathologic. Honestly. That game never got the attention and praise it deserves.

mkess: As a matter of fact, we have english in school as second language. It's unavoidable. And later on, at work, if you are a developer, you need the english language to understand any manual. The second thing is, you have to be able to talk to people araound the globe. So speaking english seems only natural nowadays.
I wish we had German in school here when I grew up as I always found German interesting sounding. We have mandatory French here up until at least grade 9 in my days but I imagine it's the same now. I've never needed or used French outside of school since. I have worked with many German colleagues however as well as friends/acquaintances both locally and abroad where German would have been useful to know. I've learned to read and write a bit of it but can't really speak it much nor take it in when hearing it. One of these days... :)

Frostyfirefly: Hey Toxic, did you manage to kill that spider in your room? :p
Haha. No, I didn't. I lost sight of it while buying one of the games. Found it the day after only to be too tired to do anything about it. Though I did find out it lives behind a picture hanging on the wall... :P
