Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Gah, even in-game, I can help but think I missing a deal. I kept Alt-Tabbing out of the game (even though I have someone telling me when the game changes). It's bad, real bad.

I'm going to switch up games and see if that helps. I hope it does.

jpwiseguy: I'm glad someone else agrees, I caught hell for saying that last night from several different people. They were clearly idiots though, so I didn't bother arguing with them.
avatar
Schemilix: I don't see why you have to call people idiots.

Someone did mention the PR thing, but as a rule I think most people agree this sale was a great idea and have had great fun, so hey. I'm sure the team will take some ideas on board; it's always good for PR to listen to customer feedback and they've had a presence in this thread.
Ok, maybe calling them idiots was a bit much. Let's just say their logic was so highly flawed that all I could do is stand back in awe of it. So far I have enjoyed this sale as well, and I am confident GOG will learn from it and come up with ideas to make the next one run a bit more smoothly. I don't have all of the answers on how this sale could be improved, but I'm sorry, waiting 5 - 7 hours for stuff like RCR and Jack Keane 2 to sell is ridiculous, and that time could be better spent actually selling the games that people really want.

Briareos262: I already have it, haven't played it yet tho. Is it any good?

deathmyrk: Yea. The first five minutes drag, but once the patients come it, it starts to become total chaos. Basically got a whole hospital to build, micromanage, and budget, all the while maintaining a a good reputation to the community. Each room has its equipment, and there is so much depth in everything. However, Bullfrog has a crazy way of making all the chaos gamer-friendly while at the same time challenging. I spent about 20 minutes so far, and the time really does go by fast once business takes its spin.
One key is to crank the speed down all the way while you're building your hospital, before it opens. Some purists probably scoff at them, but oh well.

Briareos262: lol that was awesome. I so have to go buy the blu/dvd version of it. The last time I saw the movie was on something called a VHS, lol

SpiderFighter: That's actually from Top Secret!...every now and then it shows up on Netflix.

Ooh...just checked and it's free for Amazon Prime members! Good times. =D

Thanks, although I just might pick it up on blu sometime, it seems cheap and my streaming is unreliable sometimes with netflix. amazon prime I haven't really checked the quality yet.

Craig234: Gotta say, this sale has sold a LOT of games people wouldn't otherwise have bought, I have little doubt.

I can see how It could be abused - put up a 'bad game', people buy it to get to the next one.
Well, technically there are no bad games in the sale, maybe a couple that are not as popular as others, though at least those who are making purchase to get the count to go down can at least gift it to themselves in the sale and then trade the games for others later, or give them as gifts... :)

I've got a dual monitor setup to solve this problem. Left screen has been fixed to the GOG homepage for the past few days now.

I would tell you just buy every game and that'd help, but I have them all and buy duplicates, so it doesn't.

Lotus69: I gotta say this has been the one of the nicest most pleasant forum experiences I've seen on the net. I feel this sort of thing is missing from Steam. I know they have the community pages but they don't come off like this has. Or at least I've never experienced anything like this there.

Cheers to everyone for making this a very keanning experience ;)

BHTrellis: At least you aren't a Gamefaqs war veteran. I don't post there anymore. Too much hate. >_<
I haven't been on Gamefaqs in ages, probably before whatever you're talking about. What happened?

Oh yea! Excellent tip! That was the same strategy I used for Theme Park years ago... God its been since '98 when I last played that gem. I used to love pricing the fries real cheap, putting a lot of salt on them, then pricing the drinks really high, filling it with mostly ice. I don't know why Theme Park didn't receive very well. It was the first of its kind...

Pabluzcu: I personally agree with you, or what you are implying. But there is also a saying, dont remember if chinese, the one that says "There is not a worse silence than the one made by a lot of noise".

Discussions are good and healthy for democracy, the problem is discussions should be moderated, should have some form of order. Internet discussions on politics many times tend to become a win-lose thing, where both sides try to win rethorical battles. There are not a lot of real constructive discussions if they are not moderated and somehow directed by someone, and if the people "attending" the discussion are not really intrested.

Is like hearing 2 guys discussing on the bus when you ride home. Maybe their discussion is incredible intresting, but right now I was trying to listen to music or nap or read the newspaper, and I have no intresting in hearing/reading your discussion. So your noise becomes a silence.
Being forced to listen to an argument when you don't want to is the aural equivalent of being spammed.

Just all the jerks that started telling people to google things instead of helping others like they used to do. I post maybe once every 8-10 months now.

Schemilix: I find some of the comments he made to just be plain old unnecessary though. Slagging off people who post pictures of what they make in Minecraft for example. It just reeks of jealousy, pettiness and 'you can't have fun unless I say so!' mentality.

Mental health issues (depression in particular) don't excuse being a total arse in a public forum. I have a right to say that.
That's right. I should know that best. You have to be polite, and should be able to ignore such comments. It's no use to throw your hate of mankind into any forum.

Even if you think, it is tbetter to start over with bacteria again, you should not pin that on the person, who has an aother oppinon as you. :D

I have a similar set up: two separate rigs networked. Left screen is on the GOG home page. Right screen has my browser up with about 30 tabs open so I can cruise my regular sites while still watching the sale.

That one kills me: "I'm tired of looking at this game! I'm going to spend $8 just to move the counter 1/200th of the way down!"
