Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Briareos262: hey question. would a 500gig external drive be enough to back up most gog games. My store has one for $40, im on the fence about it......
avatar
nijuu: depends how many multi GB games you have. Lot of the older games are reasonably small < 1gb unless u count the DnD ones...
hmm yeah gog does have a good couple of those. Well, I guess I should play it safe and hope for a good sale for a 1TB drive then =/

RandomJC: Gods damn. How has the Third Round lasted three days?

Buenro-games: I think the blame on that one falls on Dont Starve, Rott, Hotline Miami. I think those are the main culprits.
And RCR w/c took 7 hours to sold out.

Don't let Retro City Rampage off the hook.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
Hey guys, did I miss anything of interest since Jack Keane: Master Assassin? :P

( Not including Theme Hospital, of course, which is still on. )
Ah this is killing me! Theme Hospital seems to be selling at a snail's pace but I know it really isn't. However, I need to get to bed for WORK. No wonder they named this the INSOMNIA SALE! SMH
Yup and RCR :D

I've hit 200+ gigs for 175 games. Gog has 657 games, so about 750gb going from my sample.
(I only downloaded the english installers for pc, and all the extras... NO mac or other language installers for me).
(however, many many classics are small, and I've recently bought newer, large GB games from 2005+)

soo.... a 500gb is too small, a 1tb may fit all the base english pc installers + extras.

And you should go by this pricing 1TB=$40. Black friday you can get a 4tb for $120 if you are lucky.
Right now you can get a 1tb for $40 easily.

edit:underline MATH :P

I got that, "Ghostbusters" quote line. ^_^ I think Peter Venkman said it, lol

Pabluzcu: I personally agree with you, or what you are implying. But there is also a saying, dont remember if chinese, the one that says "There is not a worse silence than the one made by a lot of noise".

Discussions are good and healthy for democracy, the problem is discussions should be moderated, should have some form of order. Internet discussions on politics many times tend to become a win-lose thing, where both sides try to win rethorical battles. There are not a lot of real constructive discussions if they are not moderated and somehow directed by someone, and if the people "attending" the discussion are not really intrested.

Is like hearing 2 guys discussing on the bus when you ride home. Maybe their discussion is incredible intresting, but right now I was trying to listen to music or nap or read the newspaper, and I have no intresting in hearing/reading your discussion. So your noise becomes a silence.

SpiderFighter: Very thoughtful, and insightful post. Wish I could rate it even higher.
Yup, I agree it's bad when it becomes 'win lose'. I've said the time you win a lot is when you learn something from the other person.

In this case, I saw someone make some incorrect statements about Obamacare, and I think there's a need and obligation to correct that sort of thing so people are not misinformed by it.

It does still leave that question how people can get informed when the only messaging is paid for to mislead them.

The thing on the bus ride is if everyone else spend no time to get informed, that's not good - we agree.

snip3rfire: Given the nature of GOG, I can understand it being purely optional would be important. I think it would be very convenient for GOG users with larger libraries.
avatar
GhostwriterDoF: Somehow, I went from 50 something to 63 games in my library, without realizing it until today...
Before this sale I had about 35 games.

This sale is a really good play on GOG's behalf. Not only have people done a lot of impulse buying on the spot, but their GOG accounts have now gained more value. I think the hope here is that users will continue coming back, and participating in sales & community activity in future because they have at least some value on this site with their accounts.

I think GOG has truly secured its place in the digital gaming market, people cherish their accounts here much like Steam users do.

I have over 280 GOG Games and they take about 340G
I'd get a drive with a capacity of at least 1TB if I were you.
