Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

fpichardom: Does anyone know? Has NNW passed?
avatar
ALH: Still coming!
Thanks, NWN is the only game I'm still waiting for

BillyMaysFan59: A reminder for everyone: If you're tired of the Fall Insomnia madness, there's still the Weekend Promo. You can get some classics like these for 75% off:

Syndicate
Sim City 2000
Star Control 1+2
Dungeon Keeper
avatar
nijuu: U forgot DivinE Divinity :D
I was going to get Star Control 1+2, but apparently (according to the first review under the game) the freeware remake "The Ur-Quan Masters" is even better.

Stoltverd: And what do you think of mods?
For classic BG: Do you prefer tutu or trilogy? also what mods do you like?
For EE: What mods do you like?
avatar
nijuu: I didnt realise there were any mods for EE.....
Only mod I used was uncensored sex cards :D. (from my older non EE disks, not sure if gog.com 's EE version has the censored sex cards or not).
avatar
Uzur9: Seems alot? of people say just go with the Classic and MOD it. EE least with BG1 is buggy. Only issues Ive had sofar is movies stuttering (and now after the patch 1.2.0 videos are even more messed up) had some issues getting The Black Pits working. BUT other then that Its not bad.

Ide say if u can pick it up 5$ (what I paid) then snag it.
avatar
Stoltverd: I'm just a sucker for BG...
I have it boxed, burned, here on gog, the EE collection, posters and a lot of things BG related (ok not so many but for me it's a lot)
Only BG games I dont have yet the GOG versions, DA2 on PS2 (why they only put the first game on GC I dont know) and BG2 EE (waiting on price drop i think for that one)

Shendue: I'm pretty sure both of you had the best possible intentions, but politics, no matter how polite and respectful people is, always tend to make for harsh and very long and articulate discussions.
That's why some internet forums strictly forbid talking about politics or restrict those kind of discussions to off-topic forums.
An off-topic forum would be probably a useful addiction to GOG.

Craig234: Interesting question though, how does a democracy function if most of the people avoid any discussion of politics, and function as 'low-information voters' who are overly influenced by propaganda? Ya, that could go in 'off-topic'.
It's called "there is a time and a place". Mom likely taught you that when you were little but probably forgot about it.

Schemilix: As a biology undergrad I must... respectfully disagree with that theory. Epigenetics do exist, though. A stressed mother can accrue enough changes in certain genes for that to impact the genetic expression of her child if that child is conceived after that, leading to the child being more prone to developing 'stress' in the biological sense of the word. In Rhesus monkeys at least.

GhostwriterDoF: How else would you account for learned traits, passed down through instincts, such as stalking in Wolves, or dogs spinning round before they lay down, when they have never lived in a place with high grasses?
Fixed Action Patterns are behaviours animals do that is a response already present in the brain without any real conscious thought - the instinct to raise the child to the breast is an FAP even in such a complex brain as a human's. That is something encoded in structural genes expressed through the central dogma, leading to protein formation leading to the eventual connection of axons in the brain that lead to that specific 'circuit' being completed under certain stimuli... so if you mean that there is a genetic component to behaviour, you would be correct. If you mean a child remembers what his mother did, there is no real basis for that and it can be explained by other things. There's a quote I jotted down in my notepad related to that, if you'd like it?

You used a couple of poor examples. Dogs can be taught very early from their mother to spin around, if they do that. Also none of my dogs spin around before they sleep, and I have three!

Stalking in wolves is taught by their parents from a young age. They're taught to hunt rats, then move up to co-operative hunting of larger game with the pack. They're taught, it's called 'observational learning' technically. I'm doing my dissertation on cephalopod behaviour, which involves some stuff from other animals, so I might get... jargon-y.

What you're referring to is the opposite of a learned trait, by the way. Learning is altering behaviour according to past, remembered experiences. If they do it, as you claim, without any experience - that's the opposite of learned traits/behaviours. That's innate behaviour.

I'll leave this here rather than the PM since I think it's interesting for anyone reading it, anyway. That's just my stance on it having been taught about a mix of animal behaviour, molecular genetics and a small, small amount of neuroscience for the last two and a half years, I'm not an expert on any of them.
I hope Expeditions comes up soon.

I've avoided this discussion thus far, but it seems you're just deliberately trolling now; I'm sure you know that people discuss politics openly; it's just that there are places where it's considered impolite to do so.

Ya, another abrasive person, and ironically missing the point at the same time. No need to mention your mom teaching you how to talk to people.
avatar
smileytorist: I would like to take this opportunity to apologize, since it appears that my comment seems to have spawned the invasion of the politics. I'll go back to lurking now.

GOG forums already have threads concerning those subjects. This here is not a "forum", not even a "sub-forum", it's the thread for the Insomnia Promo on the General discussion section of the GOG community (forums).

If you want to discuss politics, religion, economics, philosophy, culinary, botany, etc, you can. Just create a thread for it on the "General discussion" section of the forums. But, please, don't spam a promo specific thread with it.

Thanks in advance.
I just double checked, innate behaviour is also known as instinct, in comparison to learned behaviour.
411 patients still expected to check into Theme Hospital.
6 hrs away from the PC and I didn't miss my games yet....but I need to sleep soon....work calls tomorrow. How long has Theme Hosp been up?
I'd have become a cardiologist, but I just didn't have the heart.
