Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

blackbublegum: I need a recomendation, only have cash for one more game and want to try the THIEF series

what is the best?

GhostwriterDoF: The best thing is to save up as much as you can for the coming Christmas sale, since there will be a lot of games in the catalog on sale that you never heard of and will want to try... ;)
Ok but this sales are hard to igonre :)

mondo84: Is it me or has this thread led to some very nice bonding among GOG users?

It's like we've all experienced something together, and we feel closer to one another. :)
avatar
Velgor: I was just talking via PM to someone exactly on that topic. My theory is it's a form of Stockholm syndrome. We've all been through the "trauma" of this Insomnia Promo and have bonded together in the face of adversity, as well as found a new love for our captors, the GOGers.
you theory could quiet possible be true

Velgor: Here's yet another random forum question....

Why is it when I post something the page refreshes to somewhere around 30-50 pages back in the thread and I have to click on the latest page to get back to where I was?
avatar
Coelocanth: No idea, but it happens to many of us. I usually end up about 50 or 60 pages back as well.
It is a bug and has something to do with numbers appearing in the url of the page you are posting on when submitting it. I don't know all the details but quite a few fellow GOGers elaborated on it various times through this gigantic thread.

Edit: For instance, it just happened to me as I posted the message above.

All I want is NWN Diamond... then I can sleep. Please GOG? It's already almost 02:30.

Craig234: Battlestar is a series I loved while watching it, but liked a lot less afterwards.
I wound up hating it after the first season, and I *always* hated the shakey cam. I've also realized Ron Moore still seems to be desperately ripping off Babylon 5:

Star Trek: Deep Spacee 9-ripped off the space station at the center of an inter-galactic war (seriously, the series came about after the write of B5 pitched B5 to Warner Brothers Execs).
Andromeda-ripped off multiple aspects of B5, minus the space station (Rev Bem=G'kar, one-man trying to unite the galaxy against the threat of an all-power species over a multi-year arc (Sheridan/Shadows)
Galactica-still ripping off B5, regarding mostly the politics and emphasis on space battles, and "Grey characters"

Craig234: We have to admit a lot RPG stories are less than very good.
Exactly. I personally don't judge them too harshly, as I'm a huge fan of RPGs and I don't expect every game to redefine the genre. But I also like to call things as I see them and IMO the NWN1 OC was average at best. Still, as I noted, I played through it 4 or 5 times, so I definitely thought it was fun. It certainly wasn't terrible by any means.

moonshineshadow: Ah damn, the promo tricked me into buying another game... but it looks fun.
This promo has done that over 20 times to me so far...
avatar
Craig234: I am I nthe minority it seems, but I liked the first NWN story/campaign pretty much, what I played of it in Chapter 1 anyway.
avatar
Coelocanth: That still leaves a lot of chapters to go downhill. It's definitely a mediocre campaign, but I personally didn't mind it (hell, I've played through it 4 or 5 times). But some of the community made modules really put it to shame, and the official expansions are far better as well.
Any modules you can recommend?. I rememeber installing it off disk & getting partway through before my attention switched (happens a lot with games lol).

Try the thief series, it is awesome in my opinion.

what is the best?
I would recommend Thief 1. There is an overall story that continues from 1 to 2 to 3, so it's best to start at the beginning. Plus Thief 1 has an event which is so shocking that it has made the #1 spot on many top ten lists of the most shocking moments in video game history. Whatever you do, don't look it up before you play the game! You will appreciate the surprise. :)
Yep, can't make international purchases with my pre-paid Vanilla Visa effective March 2012. Grrr...Paypal account's a few cents short of being able to afford Theme Hospital and Heroes of Might and Magic 3. If any generous gogger would gift it to me, I can reimburse you--but you'll have to wait till Wednesday... Not having a credit card sucks

Also, I will be BULL if either of those games are offered as freebies. Save some for the rest of us, you cheaters.

CarrionCrow: Idly wondering what turd will be unveiled to torture the all-nighters in the U.S. with its nonexistent progress.
Well at least Miasmata is moving. It's a fairly decent survival game done by two guys IIRC. Not particularly well optimized or good looking, but it does do some interesting stuff with cartography, and can be genuinely spooky with the threat of the monster lurking to get ya. I'd say it's definitely worth 2.99 It sort of reminds me of the mid 90's when developers were being more "experimental" and trying to figure out what to do with the new fangled 3D acceleration.
Holy crap! I just caught some footage on the news of the storm in St Louis. Hope any GOGgers out in that area of the world are doing okay.

Fictionvision: I have a feeling Cognition is going to be the "Go to sleep and check back in 8 hours" game for tonight

EX-Deimon: Me too, i'm afraid. Which is a shame because it actually looks good
It is good!

The purpose of the Keaneing has been made clear.
