Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Please, let the poor Altair requiescat in pace so we can move on with the sale.

gamingrn: Always thought AC was a pretty game that has a huge impact on you for the first 3 or 4 jobs and then gets a little stale unless you're really into it. That said, at such a discount, it's worth checking out for at least those 3-4 jobs, give it a chance people.

stinusmeret: I have a friend who loves the series so I decided to finally check it out to see why she loves it so much.
Granted AC1 isn't that good a game according to her but I figured I best start from the very beginning :P
If you haven't played any other AC games then its really good to start at the beginning. But if you have played the other AC games, then it makes it very hard to go back and play the original. The story of the first Master Assassin Altair is very good and he is still my favorite protagonist so it is worth playing for that. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the Ubisoft Prince of Persia Trilogy. The AC series is a spiritual successor to those games.

Alien8n: Worst thing for me was all the damn flags...

And then all the damn feathers in the later games...
avatar
GhostwriterDoF: In the PC version I don't the flags mattered, opened up anything. I used them as a way point, since the game saved every time we pick one up. heh
i just use online guides to get those things out of the way, since I don't like bothering myself with having to look into every nook and cranny. It might be that the price point is a bit too high for a game that came out in 2007 at $20 (specially since the directors cut didn't really add much) so probably with a buck or two off at this sale, it would have motivated more people to try it out.

I do think people miss out on this very good game specially at a cheap price.

Velgor: Random forum related question....

How do I change the line under my forum name? "New User" is a bit drab...
avatar
Faeja_Vu: Click the My Settings link at the top of the page. :)
Thanks to all for the tip. I kept checking my account page, but couldn't find it. In fact I tend to ignore the header and footer of the page so didn't see all the links available on the forum pages. DOH. This Insomnia Promo has really fried my brain.

And that's the story I'm sticking with...
Does anyone know if there is really any difference between the regular console version of AC and the PC version. Like does the PC version have anything substantially extra to it since its a directors cut?

llflawedll: AC didn't cut it for me. Bored me half to death. Visually stimulating, but basically eye candy. Core gameplay lacking. Have more enemies playing dragon warrior 1 or thief. Story line good enough, but not motivating enough to finish. Got story from reading wikipedia and watching youtube videos. 15-30 more hours to my life yipee depending. YAY!

GhostwriterDoF: Thief has that many enemies? How is the combat in the Thief games?
From what I recall, there are a decent amount of enemies but combat isn't really encouraged. Also, actual combat is pretty bland and consists mostly of dieing.

The PC version added a few new of the little objectives you have to do to gather information to help with the repetitive-ness of the original, that's it.
I only want nwn diamond. That's all and I'll go finally to sleep after 3 days of almos no sleep. (and the sleep I,ve had has been bad)
Please gog!

It has some new minor tasks. In the game you have to get intel on your targets in order to kill them and to do so you need to do tasks for certain people. The director's cut just adds some new types of tasks you need to do.

jpacer: Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't seem to say on the Assassin's Creed page.....

.... What, exactly, makes this "Director's Cut?" Are there new missions?

I have the Assassin's Creed I & II "Ultimate Collection" on disk. Is this the same thing?
They added a few side missions, tweaked the AI a bit and fixed some minor technical issues. The ultimate collection meant the bundle of I and II.

I have no direct knowledge, but from what I've seen on the forum it appears there's only minor differences on the PC side, with a few minor side quests and overall tweaks.

I actually have a physical copy of AC1, and bought it last weekend while it was on sale for 50% off, or I'd get it today.

I'm slowly converting all my physical copy games to my GoG library, that are available here so I don't have to patch them separately. Especially the older games.

You are a thief not a ninja, so combat should be avoided. :P
