Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Faeja_Vu: What's the difference between the "Director's Cut" and the regular AC1?
Its just the name of the PC release that came out much later than the consul one. They added a few extra bits to it really to counter some of the feedback.

SpiderFighter: 60 mph winds outside right now...I can hear things whipping against the house. Getting kind of nervous about my windows.

And, of course, power loss before the games I want come up! ;)

rakius300: Front was moving pretty quickly, my sensor showed 42 knots then back to 18kts within a 20 minute span. Hope it's over quick for you too.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
i just discovered myst went freebie --- oh i'd really love to get it --- was it already sold as last chance?

Enjoy!
Have BG2?
AC shouldn't take long.

JohnnyDollar: You trying to convince us or yourself? Don't set yourself up for a letdown. :D

stinusmeret: mainly myself, cause I need the sleep, this sale came at a bad time since I was still recovering from my trip to the US and jetlag :P
Congratulation.

Invalid :/ Oh well. Thanks anyway, +1!

Devoidless: Ok, I know those 25 went at a decent rate compared to the 100 but it was nowhere near that fast.
avatar
mm3n: Well ever since the 100 we get quite interesting Keaning reviews. Plus well, some people don't really want to torture others much more so they probably bought a copy to end it faster.
I was there for the 100 and 25. I was just simply stating the it didn't take 3-4 minutes for those 25.

Thats the spirit, hehe. But I bet you never played with Miriam. Oh, how I loathe that b*tch;-)

gscotti: Nice fascist rant.
Fascism is the convergence of state and corporations. I am explaining how that happens (here and in post #27092), and how to prevent fascism. That does not qualify as a "fascist rant". (I suspect you are just throwing words around that you don't really understand.)

gscotti: The "they deserve to be poor" is a staple of US political discourse.
I said nothing about "deserve". If two people find themselves stranded on two different (otherwise unpopulated) islands, and one of them was a doctor and the other happened to be a survivalist expert, the doctor is probably more likely to end up dead than the survivalist expert -- that is just the way it is. Stating that fact is not the same as saying the doctor "deserves" to die. (Nor is acknowledging the doctor's lack of "deserving to die" saying that the doctor "deserves to steal" from the survivalist expert.)

gscotti: But that's not how capitalism works - capitalism doesn't reward hard work and conscienciousness.
That's just a stupid straw-man argument.

I did not say capitalism rewards "hard work". Furthermore, I would not say that, as it would be a logical fallacy. (See the long-ago debunked Labor theory of value.)

"conscientiousness" is vague enough to be useless without a specific definition for the given context. (All kinds of people consider themselves "conscientious", but wouldn't agree on what that actually means in terms of real-world actions.)

I did specifically say that people pump out babies that they don't have the capital for, that they are not providing their kids with the capital they need to do well. That's exactly the opposite of what you are accusing me of saying.

avatar
gscotti: Capitalism rewards capital, no matter how acquired.
You are using a flawed definition of capitalism, because you can not have free-market capitalism without rule of law (which is one of many reasons the US does not have free-market capitalism now). Without rule of law people can (more easily and with less chance of justice being served) engage in fraud or theft to acquire capital. With rule of law it is less likely the "rewards" of such capital can be enjoyed -- specifically due to how it was acquired.

avatar
gscotti: There is plenty of research showing that poor people are more ethical than rich ones.
There is plenty of research showing that poor people are dumber than rich ones, and therefore make for crappy voters.

Oh, wait, I just made that up -- just like you made up your statement.

Anyways, what's your point, that you're a bigot? Even if the % of rich people that were unethical were higher than the % of poor people that were unethical, what the hell are you saying? That we should just punish all rich people because some of them acted unethically? Why wouldn't the same (bad) logic apply to poor people?

avatar
gscotti: And there's a ton of data showing that the US is one of the countries with the least social mobility in the western world.
You're just arguing my point for me! I said parents are pumping out babies even though they don't have the necessary capital to provide for those kids. Of course that tends to mean that poor parents end up with poor kids. Parents should only have kids when they can afford to provide for those kids -- creating kids they know they can't provide for is unethical. (And now I refer you back to your previous point on the ethics of rich vs poor and ask you if your "research" properly accounts for such unethical procreation.)

avatar
gscotti: Meaning, if you're born poor in the US, you'll stay poor. But if you have money, you are bound to stay rich.
That's not exactly what social mobility numbers mean (unless you're claiming immobility is 100%, which would be false).

avatar
gscotti: There is also research pointing to the fact that one of the determining factor in people's success is willingness to cheat, lie and manipulate.
Which is why we need a strong rule of law. Just as so many dumb-ass voters have approved of theft as long as it "makes the world a better place", they've also approved violation of the rule of law (with the same half-baked justification). Consider all of the fraud the bankers engaged in (e.g., the robosigning of bad mortgage documentation) leading to the US housing bubble collapse. Of those bankers, who have destroyed capital amounting to the life-time savings of countless people, how many have been executed? None. How many have been jailed? (Any? I'm not aware of any.) Sure, they get fines, where the fine is 5% or 10% of the profits they made from their illegal (not just unethical but actually illegal!) behavior. That's not rule of law. Where are the people in this? Where are the Vietnam-like demonstrations calling for justice? <<crickets>>

(I'm ignoring "manipulation" above. Fraud [lying] and theft [cheating] should be covered by rule of law. "manipulation" is impossible to pin down as ethical or unethical -- I mean, when GOG offers sale prices on games they are trying to "manipulate" me into buying games that I would not have otherwise purchased. I really don't think GOG should go to jail for that.)
AC really isn't regarded that highly around here going by the ratings and reviews, but it sure does sell well.
Assassin's Creed seems to be losing a little steam. Hopefully Thief 1+2 will be up soon so I can be done with this sale.
