Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Little time waster game. Few minutes per a game.

I have 2 keys

CarrionCrow: You must have a hell of a time creating one in Icewind Dale 2.
avatar
GhostwriterDoF: In Icewind Dale 2, they have a few premade parties for the OCD inclined... :)
lol hmm I might have to go that route.
avatar
jsonlee: I can't believe that i have missed Torment to the last. :( only hope in D&D sales.
Or the coming Christmas, holiday sale... :)
avatar
wanderlust76: I liked only controlling one guy in NWN ... I'm OCD in D&D games when it comes to building a character so if I only have one guy to worry about I save a lot of stress on myself lol. It takes 5 years, 4 months and 2 hours to build a party in IWD1 partially because it's so easy to gimp a party.
avatar
kaszman1: I saw a friend of mine playing IWD2 with a solo monk. It was kind of funny watching a halfling slapping and kicking a dragon :D

Also the character creation took forever in MM and Wizzardy series. Decisions, decisions...
For me its like the best bart of the game :)
I am like that with BG2..... reroll the dice a million times.
Popped in for a quick moment. I'm going to cross my fingers and have my son grab Jade Empire for me.

CarrionCrow: Well....the decreasing number meter, for one. It's a staple of video games, and so the audience will latch onto it and its ever decreasing number pattern. Video game - hit an enemy, watch its meter decrease, see the numbers, continue until it's gone, gets replaced with a new meter and new numbers.
Two - basic and obvious. People are suckers for deals, even when they have to go to ridiculous lengths to get them. Also, the longer you have to wait to achieve success, the more you feel bound to do so, even when the ratio of productivity loss versus monetary gain becomes skewed against you. Another video game mechanic as well - the "I can't quit now, I've already pissed away 85 hours on Nonsensical Crap Quest 2015! I have to see it through!"
Three - deals on a timer. People are also suckers for anything that says "HURRY HURRY HURRY YOU'VE ONLY GOT 2.6 SECONDS TO CAPITALIZE ON THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME DEAL! DON'T GET LEFT BEHIND!"
Four - the idea of freebies. People are yet again suckers for getting crap they're willing to pay for for free. Even if you know in your heart of hearts that you have a better chance of winning the lottery while surfing on the back of a great white shark, you'll still automatically go for it. (I've been doing that and consequently feel like an idiot EVERY SINGLE TIME.)
Five - basic human desire. Deciding based on thoughts, memories, connotations and all that good crap that object x is just something you cannot live without having right this nanosecond. Mix five with three and you get the tempering factor that you COULD buy it full time, but you'll feel stupid if you do that when instead, if you just wait long enough.....
That's what I can think of off the top of my head. No accounting for x factors like guilt, duty, desire to do something nice for another person.

cjc7: I tend to agree with all each of you have stated, far better than I could, but I do think, what a boring life we would live devoid of the excitement of the buy and sell , give and take. As it really is about all we actually really Need, in life, food, water, shelter, medical care and such as that. But to experience life we try many things, some better some worse. Those that rely on us to purchase items , which are beyond basic needs, also fuel the creation of jobs and open up other opportunities for new and better ways of living. Now I have , at least in my own mind, justified my being here with all of you, my friends, and acting such a fool, to save a few dollars on my passion, gaming :) Thanks again to you all for being here, the magic would be impossible without each of you.
I wouldn't say you're acting like a fool. And I most certainly agree, life on its most basic level would be soulcrushingly boring without anything extra to do along with it. Just got wordy on the subject of personal motivators, in all likelihood since I've been sitting here for a few days and the lack of sleep is probably making me overly introspective.
Come on, Jade Empire and NWN 1. Please pop up soon.

MysterD: I thought the Ancient Race part of the campaign either should've been cut-out entirely or fleshed-out much better.

Also, one of the best quests - it's a Side Quest and has to do w/ a deciding on a Trial. I think it was in Chapter 3, IIRC.

Also, when compared to BG series - NWN series didn't really give players enough party members (ONLY ONE!) to take w/ you at once and/or even much control over your party even. And sometimes, your party members' AI wouldn't really follow your orders. At least in BG and DAO, you can turn the AI off and micro-manage them and get your way in combat - and at least you can blame yourself, if you get pounced in combat in those games. Also, you didn't even much control over your party's inventory and equipment - sorta of like in DA2.

Not until Hordes did gameplay get much better in a SP NWN game, IMHO - more orders allowed and you can have 3 in your party. :D

But, that's the thing I liked about BG series - 6 party members at your disposal to fully-control. It was fun and strategic for me. I know, I know - it's probably not everyone's cup of tea.

Yes, I do understand NWN1: Original Campaign was purposely built for you to control one-guy - but that was kind of why the combat didn't often seem as exciting and as interesting as what BG1+2 did; especially since NWN was a game stuck in a somewhat real-time mixed w/ underpinning of a turn-based system that has so-called "dice-rolls." Then tackle onto that the lack of control of my "companion" and their Inventory; and the rushed job the Ancient Race story had - NWN: OC disappointed me. Yeah, I was much more disappointed in NWN: OC than I was w/ DA2.

DukeDuvel is trading his extra copy for Alpha Centauri
94 to go.
Severe weather threat gone from my aor, anything interesting happen in the last roughly 45 minutes?

ClaudioAGS: that´s ok. I hope you get it, it´s a great game. :-)
avatar
clcaztx: Thanks. I was going to just give you MOO, but I don't see the game code when I click on the game.
If you're looking at your library, you can't transfer those games. They're yours permanently. If you want to transfer a GOG game, it has to have been purchased as a gift.

UberNerd: If The Witcher 2 pops up in the next hour or so, could someone snag me a copy? I will reimburse you somehow, either through buying you a game, or a HumbleBundle if that's your thing.
If it pops up I will try to snag you one, but I have a feeling it will be the last game of the sale.

Soo true! I spent like 2 hours making a party the first time I booted up Wizardry 6. M&M I was much faster on since there were fewer choices in Vi.

I was so happy they did away with that mechanic and went for point buy in NWN. BG compelled me to reroll a million times..

And then saving and reloading to get max hitpoints on levelups. Argh.. must've lost several days of my life to that nonsense ;p
