Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

gscotti: I don't think this is what people assume about US healthcare (that those who are poor don't get it). What we see is that there is a large demographic of not-poor-enough Americans who cannot afford it. I personally know a few such unfortunate people, who are seriously thinking of getting a job in the EU for that reason alone.
In some places it is what people think about US healthcare. I've had multiple unrelated people ask me if it's really true that people who can't afford it will be turned away from hospitals. (It isn't, by the way, they'll just hear from collection agencies for something slightly less than forever.)

And yes, while there are safety nets in place, a serious extended illness will still ruin you financially even with "good" insurance. Just ask my credit report.

Faeja_Vu: Unfortunately that's exactly the same for me. I remembered playing a demo of it years back, loved it, felt all rebellious-like playing it, and in general, found a lot of it quite funny. Now that I've matured more, most of it is actually pretty stupid.

kaszman1: Postals reputation comes only from crazy and brutal gameplay and constant media madness around the series, there is nothing more. No real story, crappy level design, chunky FPS mechanics, etc
Its nothing like Half Life, or Chaser for example.
Yeah, I remember when I was 13 and this game came out. A lot of vendors refused to stock it and a lot of my friends were gushing about it.

GhostwriterDoF: Our Healthcare Industry here in the U.S. is the most cut-throat of all the industries, including making Wall Street look like Boy Scouts. Through Greed, these Cartels cast a dark shadow across the entire Nation. Pray they don't come to your countries.
That would be a nightmare indeed. I am quite happy that my tax euros pay for a socialized healthcare, childcare and other social services that don't give a shit what colour is your passport, let alone how much money you make. Other things I am happy my tax pays for: excellent bicycle paths, playgrounds, schools and free higher education.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you are on the mend.... including financially.

Someone can send the list?

marsrunner: Oh bummer, I missed the free Myst! I clicked on but it expired. Oh well, maybe next time!
Join the club, I've about given up on the Freebies, though to be fair most of them I already owned and just planned on giving away as Xmas gifts anyhow.

I think in the future, one thing that might help folks out would be to use a combination of a 1 min sale, or use some kind of captcha code just to stall what I suspect are script abusers, or key re-sellers ect. Though I was intending to use them for gifts, I feel really bad for the folks that just legitimately wanted to play the games.. so maybe the free games shouldn't be gift-able in the future?? I doubt that would slow abuse though as folks will just sign up new accounts?

Oh well, I grabbed some good gifts and few for myself.
avatar
Ra88gog: Real Myst is in 3D and Masterpiece is the same as original 2.5D but with better graphics. For me better for start is Real Myst. It looks more like todays games. And after you used to Myst and it's world you will go to Myst 2 which has only 2.5D version, but it won't matter because you will want more "myst" puzzles.
I'm not sure I'd call that "2.5D".

Myst (original/Masterpiece) uses static pre-rendered graphics. "Movement" is just changing to a different screen showing a pre-rendered view from a roughly appropriate location and angle (in accordance with where you indicated you wanted to move to, by clicking the mouse).

Real Myst, OTOH, has a 3D engine facilitating real-time first-person movement.

DrRoxo: I though UK had the option, but people opted out of that on referendum?
avatar
stan423321: They can not use it. Not "they cannot use it". This is a particularly sneaky word, that cannot.
Actually, "can not" == "cannot". One is just more accepted version of the other. No difference in meaning. So I'm not really sure what your point is :)

Faeja_Vu: Yeah, but unfortunately the nostalgia bug suckered my into buying it quite a while back.. Honestly though, the "crazy and brutal gameplay" isn't even all that crazy and brutal anymore.. It's just ridiculous and as you said, clunky. I can't even enjoy running around murdering all the random npc's anymore. :|
Yep, same here. I have a game hoarding problem xD Lots of respect buys and not even playing them...
if "can not" == "cannot"
{
One = "just more accepted version of the other. No difference in meaning. So I'm not really sure what your point is :)";

Exactly. That's the great thing about our NHS, it doesn't matter how serious the illness that safety net is always there and free to all that need it. Sure as a result we pay higher taxes in some cases, like petrol duty, VAT, etc, but when you consider what we could lose if we went to an entirely American way of doing it it's a price I'm more than willing to pay. I know that a fire will not result in me being charged by the fire brigade to come and put it out, and a serious illness will not result in me running up huge debts in order to pay for medication.

Khalaq: I really do encourage you to play BG1, first. There's a lot of backstory to BG2 you will miss out on, even though you could carry one without it. Also, you can port your BG1 game into BG2 to continue your story.
avatar
Alien8n: Porting your character becomes pretty awesome if you manage to get your character levelled up right with all the books you can find. Think I ported an elf ranger last time with 21 dex :)
I have BG2 but I started it and *spoilers*, so I decided to wait for BG1 but my bank is denying me purchases. lol

I'm really tired waiting for Thief 1 to come up..
