Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Daz12380: ive a strange question about gog why are the prices in usd while they are based in europe
avatar
CarrionCrow: Presumably because they didn't want to deal with Americans bombarding them with the question of what the amount means in "real" money.
While that's a cool theory, I'd rather lean on the fact that credit card companies out of EU used to do the money conversion through the dollars. So pricing in dollars saved GOG some money. There's also the fact that if they were pricing in euros, publishers would push for "euro prices".
Took a gamble on Lucius. I know the write-ups aren't great but.. for £2.50 or so thought it was worth a shot

CorranHorn: BG 1 engine is pretty dated and I had some major problems playing it, if you want the "hardcore" experience play it without mods but if you have problem or don´t care for that then install the mod, the BG 2 engine makes the game look so much better. I remember staring in amazement as I started the second game, they did wonders to the engine with the second game.

Devoidless: That why you play with TuTu. Adds sprites, spells, rules and the such from BG2 to BG.

EDIT:
Figured I should mention that you need both BG and BG2 to let TuTu do it's job.
Or play the Enhanced Editions. Seriously, I don't get all the hate, I think they're awesome.
(and this is coming from someone who has the original BG1 cardboard box on his shelf and managed to physically wear out a copy of it back in 1999)

animalmother2105: I would recommend playing BG1 first, then BG2. For Icewind Dale, not so much, but would still help. Long time, I do not remember correctly.
avatar
skeletonbow: There's also mod instructions whereby you can take BG1 and BG2 and combine them together into one big long game, I think the GOG page for the games links to the instructions for this. Haven't tried it myself though.
I have. It works just fine.

Yes, but I recommend trying the game without it first, just to see how the difference from the first game to the second one=).
Buy Lucius fast, the next freebie is due right after the kid.

You know a game is missing something, when it takes longer to sell 100 copies compared to melting over 2000 copies for a classic.

Daz12380: thanks for the answer
They don't really give an answer on the FAQ to be honest, but here is what is says:

6. What are your prices in different countries?
Our prices are always the same, worldwide. It doesn't matter whether you live in the sunny Bahamas (lucky you!) or some place where polar bears roam the streets, it's always in USD either $5.99 or $9.99 per game. Our company is based in Europe and VAT/tax is included in the games' prices. This means that GOG.com will always charge you $5.99 or $9.99 per game.
However please be advised that we are based in Europe and have no control over your bank's additional international/card transaction fees (where applicable). Most banks don't charge their customers extra, but if you use funds already present on your PayPal account to buy games on GOG.com, you will be able to avoid any such additional costs.

So it seems to work into the fair price model they have set up, but I'm not sure how.

Which mod do i use to get the BG2 engine into BG1?
Wanted to try a more modern adventure game for my first one in that Genre, was going to try Lucious but it has some pretty bad reviews.

+1 Rep for you! :)

(hope you enjoy it)

I'm not paying that much money for a game they barely did any work on, and added more bugs than is reasonable for what little work they did.
will there be any more freebies

spoonwhale: I bought Baldur's Gate 2., however I feel lost when it comes to the storyline.
Should i have gotten BA 1 as well, or does it not matter too much?
avatar
Xiko91: I think so. I don't have BG2 only the first one and storywise someone said I should play the first one and then the second one.
Plaing BG1, first, is highly recommended but not absolutely necessary.
avatar
dedoporno: So, no one has a spare copy of IWD for sale (I'll PayPal you, nothing left to trade) from that flash offer?
avatar
JohnnyDollar: You was in here giving some games away yourself, wasn't you? I would help if you had a spare.
I don't have anything left, gave it all away couple of hours ago :(

I just want to say I got help from two fellow members:

Emmjay2012 and wormhole

Thank you for your help, my friends!
