Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

shadowknight2814: Good plot, good party mechanics, good writing... and have aged better than the late 80's/early 90's licensed AD&D titles.

sharp299: but you need to play them all to undresrtand the plot?, or i can play them one by one
BG2 gives you enough info you can get by without playing BG1. IWD doesn;t have anything to do with the Baldur's Gate series, and IWD2 gives you enough info you don't need to pay the original. BG2 is probably the most popular, but I personally enjoyed IWD the most.

I would recommend playing BG1 first, then BG2. For Icewind Dale, not so much, but would still help. Long time, I do not remember correctly.

Ungunbu: i hope they'll do that in the next insomnia
anyway it's still possible to get free games even without scripts --- i was able to get them and also many other people

MadVulcan: I edited my post when I saw more people who I know got free offers legitimately (plus I was being a bit too sarcastic, lol). A few people are using scripts, but my lag time is also an impediment. Hopefully now that GOG sees how fast things go, they will consider improving their method and systems for next time. Every time I click on a free offer its either already expired or the server has overloaded. Thank you for your reply.
I think the biggest problems that does go to show how broken the free offers are:
Some people not even seeing the offers
People winning multiple freebies

Given the number of people going for the freebies it's not that far fetched that winning a free copy of any game is not guaranteed. Put simply the odds are against you. Given that then the number of people winning multiple freebies shows that somehow the odds are tilted drastically in their favour, be that by geographical location, scripting or computer speed. Quite simply it means if you haven't won yet the chances are you won't, because the factors against you are too far over and the factors for other people are too far in their favour. Winning multiple times means luck is not the prime factor in winning, something else is tilting the odds in their favour.

Velgor: Ah, another big one... IWD. Let the 504 storm commence!
avatar
gamefood: alrighty then! Now I know out of which direction that "storm" came from ^^... missed it completely. how many copies was it?
900, gone in about 5 minutes.

The forum made problems quite a bit longer tough. ^^
so......... how many freebies were you able to get?

xerox2k4: so do you guys (and gals) sit on the website all day?
or
do you have some kind of designated buyers that you send your want list to and they takes shifts watching the site while you go to work or some other thing away from computer

Khalaq: I really do encourage you to play BG1, first. There's a lot of backstory to BG2 you will miss out on, even though you could carry one without it. Also, you can port your BG1 game into BG2 to continue your story.

spoonwhale: I appreciate the advice, but it's too late now, I think. I might pick it up alongside Planescape if I like BA 2 and there's a sale.
There is an excellent mod that ported BG1 to the NWN2:complete engine. It's a good alternative if you have NWN2.

900.

innerring: Although it has to be noted the games in the summer/winter sale that are 75% (80%) off are in stacking bundles (you have to buy the whole bundle for the discount).
What happens when you already own, say, all but one game in the bundle? Do you get 75% of that one, or do you have to rebuy everything? Also, how do the gift codes work?
avatar
sharp299: I impresive how all games based on Dungeos and dragons sells to quick....why are so popular?

shadowknight2814: Good plot, good party mechanics, good writing... and have aged better than the late 80's/early 90's licensed AD&D titles.
However, Alpha Centauri sold like crazy, too. I think the game is recognized as being excellent even outside the typical 4X turn based strategy gamer circles.

GhostwriterDoF: Stacking Promos! The most diabolical of all sales promos....
Well, sometimes the bundles are full of quality games. Then there are those who contain Master of Orion 3, Daikatana, Star Control 3, etc.

You can play them one by one.
did anyone get an extra key for IWD?

Just for this sales promo, I've been in here for hours and hours trying to keep those waiting company... Though my interest at first was purely historical, I did manage to get two games from the sale... :D
