Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

elite580: Really want them to put out Thief 1+2 and Postal 2 sometime soon. They're all I want left from this sale :(
avatar
clcaztx: Good luck on your quest. I'm hoping to snag NWN, Icewind Dale, and Witcher 2.
Really the only one I still need is Theme Hospital :P

LeonardoCornejo: The sale has some defects, the timing for example, I mean, sometimes a game stays there, unwanted, for so long it gets annoying, the freebies are so limited that you must be a master of the mouse trigger to get one, and the last chance thing grows annoying for the freebies, not to mention that it seems the selection method remains a mystery.

Still a wonderful way to sell games and force humans to reach their patience threshold without realy harming them.
Some of us are actually fond of humans...
Meh, I haven't got any freebies in this promo (never even seen one..), and I really doubt I will.

Is there any list of the games that were offered for free? Wondering what I've missed out on.

JohnnyDollar: I've put off both that one and Jade Empire in this sale. I might impulse buy them in this last round, I don't know. My understanding is that NWN 1 single player is only worth getting for the mods only, and Jade Empire is mediocre at best. A lot of folks here rate JE high, but I've also read that it's cliche ridden and full of generic stereotypes, very linear (typical Bioware), amongst other complaints.

UncleOvid: I'd really disagree about Jade Empire. It's like playing a video game version of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (OK, maybe not quite that good). The setting is fresh and a clever alternative to the typical elves-and-wizards high fantasy stuff you see everywhere else. I find the combat system WONDERFUL, with an easily learned rhythm and a lot of different styles, all of which are viable enough that you can switch up styles without feeling shortchanged by not grinding one up to its full potential.

It has its problems: The story's nothing special (it's ALL about the setting), it IS pretty linear (though I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing) and, while it tries to sell its Closed Fist/Open Palm morality gauge as something other than Good and Evil, it still comes down to the same overblown asshole-or-saint decisions. Also, there's a Vertical Scrolling Shooter minigame that's decent, but feels shoehorned in. I enjoy it, but I'm definitely in a minority. It's pretty optional, however.

I don't want to sound defensive about it, but I really do want to recommend it if you're at all on the fence. I got it back in my Xbox days and loved it. If you don't get it this sale, you really shouldn't pass it up next time on the block.
I love Jade Empire, it is a true classic to me.
Getchur Omerta while you can, only 30 left...

Cakeface the man! :DDD
0,00$ on the account... Is the sale over for me? :-(

nijuu: Wait til after the sale and see all the whingers not liking this format (yes it needed a timer but aside from that...).Its been good.

Coelocanth: No matter what sale format GOG comes up with, people complain about it. It's happened every single time they do a sale other than their regular weekly ones (and there are even tons of complaints about those). I figure by bow GOG knows they can't please everyone and there will always be complainers.

FWIW, I don't even think they need a timer with this format. Sure, it means that sometimes there will be a long lull in someone's 'prime time', but it's good to be able to confidently take a break and since the sales recycle, there's a good chance of seeing the game you want come back around again too.

nijuu: Bet some of the regulars are stocking up on giveaways for later :)

Why, whatever do you mean?
You missed an "Ike" in that last sentence ;)

Okay :)
avatar
Coelocanth: I've tried for a ton of the free games and gotten none. No big deal, they're free so all it costs me is a push of the mouse button. But no luck so far. Understandable since there are thousands of others trying as well. I don't get why this makes people hate the sale though. The deals are still outstanding even if you don't get a free game.
avatar
Shendue: If everything, i'm blaming my ISP, certainly not the sale.
But maybe they could try something different in the future to prevent people with slow connection to be disadvantaged and discouraging the use of bots? Someone suggested to give the freebies to 20 random people among the ones who buy a game. Like a lottery.
In my opinion the sale format overall is fine. What I think they should do to make it not so much sitting around for ten Keane's just to find out the game you want isn't next in line is put up like five games at once, each with their own tracker. When one of those games runs out it gets replaced by the next on the list. Then titles that sell slower can sell slow but people aren't so afraid to play games they have or live life or anything just because they don't feel they have a chance to buy the game they want when it comes up.

Selinea: Yeah, as much as I like the fact that a lot of people on here are very nice and giving, I'm a little bit annoyed that people who complain are often getting rewarded (not even just those posts of, oh darn, I missed this, which I can somewhat understand, but some people actively post stuff like "this sale sucks because I missed blank", and then they get free stuff, like where's the fairness in that? Way to shaft all the quiet/polite people), thus fostering an atmosphere of people constantly complaining.
Personally, I am much less likely to give a gift to someone who rants in the forum. I try to hold out for those who have had bad luck and yet try to keep their chin up. Those are the people I seek out.

Now, where does your comment of "Way to shaft all the quiet/polite people" fit into all of this?
