Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

EX-Deimon: I really recommend reading the GoT books (A Song for Ice and Fire). There are currently 5 out at the moment and the author is currently writing the next 2 books. If you enjoy GoT, don't waste time and buy the books, they are great That way, you will avoid spoilers online.

The books are very well written, each chapter is from a characters' point of view which makes a nice change. Love it.

moonshineshadow: I agree, really great books, only fear I sometimes have is that the author will die before finishing since it always takes him a very long time to write the next book...
One could almost say the series was Keaning... :-)

ShadowWulfe: The Wheel of Time FPS? I thought it wasn't bad.
the first ever Wheel of time game, came out late 90's I think.

I remember it because I bought it.

It was basically an FPS in desguise. You had ter angrel - one infinite but weak attack, and any other you had to find 'charges' for, to utilize.

the story centered around a guy who was inspired by Padian Fain - someone who was fed by the evil of the gold in that one dead city.

anyway, there are a few 'forsaken' about. you're the keeper in the story, shielded more or less... meh the story isn't really important anyway.

The game was very lackluster and felt rushed out the door.
Ok you guys convinced me. Age of wonders it is :)

Buenro-games: Gerrold hasnt discontinued that series.

Chevette: He hasn't officially disconitnued it, but he hasn't written another in the last 20 years and has said he doesn't know when he'll finish it. :(

If by that you mean whether Baldur's Gate is still up for Last Chance, I think so.

Alien8n: Speaking of authors, anyone else got authors they absolutely loved and then went "meh, I can't be bothered" with later books?

I can think of a few off the top of my head, Piers Anthony and Stephen Donaldson spring to mind straight away.

In comparison I still love pretty much anything written by Pratchett, Brooks and Feist :)

Briareos262: Stephen King =P I loved his early books.......then I got bored later after Needful Things and such.
Under the Dome was a real fun book to read, I was fixated by it and finished it in a couple of days (non stop reading) even though it is quite long ( it is up to par with his two other longest novels The Stand and It). i highly recommend it. Oh, and ignore that TV series BS.

Also his online novel The Plant is mesmerizing and awesomely chilling. Give that one a try, very unique perspective in that it is told by a series of old manuscripts, letters, journals, etc. Awesome stuff. (Though not yet finished)

xenxander:
It didn't really do anything new with the genre, but it added some variety. I actually enjoyed it. My biggest memory was when my old Nvidia either couldn't handle it or got gummed up or something and started smoking and nearly cratered the entire computer.

To be fair, that may have been under Windows ME.
