Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

SpiderFighter: I'm the same way. I read The Dark Tower in high school, and started the second book. Then I read an interview with King saying he wouldn't be able to finish the series he had in his head before he died of old age, so I stopped reading them. Now that he's finished, I need to start over. :)
Apparently, George R R Martin is working quicker on the books so the TV shows won't catch up to the books. Word has it, if they do catch up to the books, they might do a prequel based in Westeros. Heard plenty of rumours, dunno though.

Velgor: I really wish you were wrong, but considering the first book came out in 1995, you may be far too close to reality that we'd like. Also a point to consider is that, I believe, book 3 was split into two due to the involved plot and George R R Martin's idea to focus on one side of the world and then the other. He said the work was done and the next book should quickly follow. It took 5 years for the next book to follow. FIVE YEARS. And it was "done." So, now, allegedly, book 6 is finished and the final, book 7 being written. Well, let's just say I am NOT holding my breath on seeing either any time soon.

What saddens me too, is the fact that Mr. Martin is getting up there in years and I genuinely fear he may not live long enough to see his magnum opus finished.

Chevette: Here's hoping he finishes it in his lifetime, as he doesn't want any other authors finishing it for him:

Thanks for that link! Good article, and I totally agree with his point. Leave the story alone after the author passes on, unless they expressly give their permission to do so. Create something different, something your own.

Damn you GoG...another game bought I wasn't planning on...just show the games I want to buy so I can quit staring at the screen!

BlueLlama: Look at what happened to Robert Jordan. Personally, I couldn't get past his lame characters and their constant emoting, but it was kind of sad to see an author die before they finish their work.
do whar i do...wait until series are completed before reading them. :)
What about Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, heard a lot about those books and the author. I´ve read many fantasy books like David Edding´s books, The Shannara books, Sword of Truth (only the first two). Speaking of shannara is the game any good, how about The Wheel of Time game?

I really hope he is working quicker, I don't care at all about the TV show, but if it really makes him work faster, I am happy that the show exists :D

moonshineshadow: I agree, really great books, only fear I sometimes have is that the author will die before finishing since it always takes him a very long time to write the next book...
avatar
DalamarNL: It happened with the Wheel of Time series. Robert Jordan died before he could finish it, a real shame.
Brandon Sanderson did a decent job writing the last books though, but I can't help but wonder how it would have been if RJ had finished the books himself.
Great series, ironically I actually preferred Brandon Sanderson's writing style, it seemed more "let's get on with it" than Jordan's "and meanwhile, this is what's happening in some quaint little village that has no relevance to the story" style.

I keep being tempted to purchase Space Colony, then bottle it, bought quite a few already, and wonder if I'll like it..

Hope you're able to buy what you wanted, but hopefully they'll be up during the next sale, or somewhere else too. :)

I've gotten 9 games during this sale, 8 impulse buys that I had no intention of getting
Does anybody have Rogue Legacy to trade? Nobody? I missed it earlier.
