Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

johnnygoging: I've just learned recently that steam has drm-free titles in the sense that some titles don't enforce the drm, which is really good. and yes, drm sucks, but steam has a lot on offer besides that drm, the excellent prices not the least. I still prefer gog of course, but I think that sometimes the some of the stuff towards steam and especially humble bundle can be going too far.

groze: I have absolutely *nothing* against Humble Bundles. Nor against Steam -- or, should I say, the people that choose to use Steam, since I do not endorse Steam myself.

Humble Bundles are great chances to get great games cheap, and that's a good thing, not a bad one, at least in my book. The problem is that more often than not the games you get from the Bundles are Steam copies, and, like I said, though I have absolutely nothing against those who use Steam, I'm not keen on their services and I openly choose not to use them. That's just me, it's my prerogative and I think I'm entitled to it.

The reasons I don't use Steam are mainly the fact that I live outside the US in a country in which Steam doesn't do currency exchange (a game may cost $3 on Steam and $4 on GOG, but the GOG copy is actually cheaper for me because I'd have to pay €3 for the Steam game and only €2-ish for the GOG one), I'm actively against DRM, even if it is "light" DRM such as the one Steam forces upon its consumers, and, most of all, I like *owning* my games, as opposed to *renting* them, and Steam games are not yours even though you pay for them. Every single game I bought here on GOG is mine to keep and do whatever I please with it.

Also, regarding that last couple of sentences, did you know the EU Court passed a law deeming *renting services to play games and not actually selling them to the customers* illegal? That's right, and there's already one impending lawsuit against Steam forming in Germany, that I know of, and several smaller cases of that happening locally, here in Portugal.
I didn't know that (the info in the last paragraph), thanks for that. :)

CorranHorn: No not another title that many probably owns (I own it here on Humble Bundle).
I don't remember Resonance ever being on Humble Bundle. I would have, which i don't.
This sale made me realise how many adventures there are on Gog.
I really hate adventures. No patience for them.
I wanna go and play some games like Batman Arkham City or Risk of Rain, but I'm too afraid I miss the deals I want.

mondo84: No, not really. Something taking ~30 min to sell 600 copies is different than something taking ~2 hours to sell 200 copies.
avatar
dedoporno: I said "if the number is too high". NWN2 sold 2100 copies super fast, but make them 10 000 and watch it go down for 4 hours. Every game, no matter how good or cheap can be made a showstopper if they overestimate the market for it.
Anybody can say, "If 10000 copies of ____ are offered it will take awhile." That reasoning doesn't apply at all because GOG isn't putting up games for that many copies...

We are talking within the actual realm of the number of copies that games are selling for. What matters is the copies sold per unit time of each game, and high quantities of fast-selling games can sell out an hour sooner than a low quantity of a slowly-selling game.

Johnmourby: Nexus seems to have been one of the most popular games on the sale. How come?
It's an awesome game? Seriously. It's one of those unknown gems that didn't get enough publicity. I've had it for a few years now and always had fun. Awesome mods out there as well.
Cant help you with Resonance guys. It is in my backlog.
um... i have only one copy... so lets do a contest. write your knight sobriquet

Crowned: Oh damn, 600 copies of Resonance. I have a gut feeling this will take a while.

zarquon: Resonance is actually a really good game, but point-and-click adventures do seem to sell slowly during this promo, so you could be right...
They sell slowly, but steadily. Point and clicks were always a niche genre, to a degree (I'm a point and click adventure gamer myself), so there's not that many people willing to invest in one of them. Fortunately, the GOG community has a lot of point and click gamers. Unfortunately, most of us already own Resonance. Which is, by the way, a great game, much like all other Wadjet Eye published titles.
Wow, that Nexus experience left me a bit shaken. I was just quickly trying to figure out if I want this game when it was already gone. WTF. Sad thing is that I came to the conclusion that yes, I do in fact want it :/

Argh, Resonance might take long...

Also, sometimes, I can't see my latest posts for some reason when I try to post...
