Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

johnnygoging: oh really? because right they're asking 4.73 for them on the bundle.
Really. Especially since I'm guessing THE BUNDLE comes with Steam codes for the games and Arkham games on Steam are among the most DRM-ey titles out there, from what I've been told.

And when all's said and done, $10 for System Shock is still a better deal, those games don't hold a candle to any of the classics in here.
I feel like there's a lot of negativity towards humble bundle sometimes on this forum. that kind of loyalty helps everyone but us.

4.73 for arkham asylu, the fear games, and everything else is nothing short of amazing. and I don't know how anyone can say the rest of the humble bundle is pure crap.

Shendue: That may be true for you, me and ahab, but you gotta consider that most people are probably on gog during the sales JUST FOR THE SALES. And if the sales go fluently and they percieve a good experience, they will talk well about it, possibly leading to other people logging into the website out of curiosity and maybe staying for the overall service.

techknight1337: I wonder how many of the sale games are going to end up gifted to friends ...
or sold later at full price

ahab: Steams offline mode didn't work for how long......
It's worked fine since I started using it. The only issue I ever had with it was I had logged off and it need updating and since for whatever reason the next day my ISP was not giving me service I couldn't connect and it didn't want to do anything without updating. Since then I have heard that that particular issue has been resolved.

Or gifted to strangers on the forums.

Shendue: nd if you missed the metareferences in the story, you missed the best part of the game. The story has not to be taken literally, it's completely metaphorical and metareferential.
avatar
EX-Deimon: Pretty much this. I loved the story. Had a very surreal theme to it as did the overall atmosphere of the game. That made it even better.
Yeah. At its core is truly a story speaking to gamers about concepts such as insensivity to violence and freedom of choice. And, on yet another level, about violence in gaming.
It also makes you think about the morals of the characters, very akin the movie it's inspired by, "Drive",
Also, like "Drive", a great homage to the 80's with an AMAZING soundtrack.

Suloyapla: Ditto! (No I haven't been playing Pokemon X during this sale, why do you ask?)
Damn, I could have done that, too!
Altough I'm already through with everything story related. Still need to catch some legendarys, Mega stones and such, tough.

Nolerion: Only Strike Suit Zero and Aquanox, with Chaos Engine in between as freebie.
Actually managed to grab one, guess there's not as many people following the sale anymore.
Or you just got lucky. I think there is a certain amount of luck in getting freebies, not only ping time to the GOG server and reflexes.

Actually, I hear they removed Windows live from them finally and that was probably my only small gripe.
The arkham games.... are so good.
Speculation on what games are coming in order after this one? I still want to try and get Neverwinter Nights Diamond since I missed NWN 2.

I've just learned recently that steam has drm-free titles in the sense that some titles don't enforce the drm, which is really good. and yes, drm sucks, but steam has a lot on offer besides that drm, the excellent prices not the least. I still prefer gog of course, but I think that sometimes the some of the stuff towards steam and especially humble bundle can be going too far.

Faenwulf: Well, you could see RCR move in its third round, too.
Still it took 8 hours (longer than the original Keaning). So, RCR was no Keaning? I'm pretty sure many people would find that to be wrong.
avatar
Cardian: Well, obviously even The Prime Keaning could be seen moving at times. I also think that in order for something to truly Kean it has to have a very low unit/time ratio. 100 units of The Prime Keaning in 5 hours is far better than 600 units of The Retro Keaning in 8 hours. Also, the fact that we're now in the third round has to be taken into account. The Prime Keaning achieved its gloriousness in the second round. In the third round many games are already oversaturated. The Book of Unwritten Keanes was Keaning because of oversaturation, since it sold quite well before that. It's not easy defining a true Keaning, but 600 copies in maybe 2 hours for Privateer is no Keaning yet.
I really appreciate the careful analysis and reliance on primary sources in your reasoning.
