Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

ahab: People base whether to tell people about a site based on one promo? fuck me

You would think it would be for the work they put in to making old games work on new systems...should of known it's down to the sales

groze: Exactly my point several times before! GOG is so much more than this sale, I'll keep telling all of my gamer friends to come here and buy games or just hang around.

The community is great, the ever-growing catalog is amazing, ranging from classics to cult classics to obscure indie contemporary gems and obscure cult back in the day gems as well, all optimized to run in modern systems and at dirt cheap prices.

Also, do notice GOG hasn't stopped because of this promo, all the stuff they use to do has been done at the same time the promo continues: releasing 3 or more titles per week, then the weekend promo, spanning whole three days.

This sale is great but even without it I think the price GOG asks for their games is more than fair. One of the most sought after games in here, Planescape: Torment, costs $9.99/€8-ish, and, if you ask me, ten bucks for one of the best games ever made is a steal. I understand people not passing the chance to get it cheaper, but it is one thing to not pass up the opportunity when it comes around, and something else entirely to simply never coming back to GOG because they missed the chance to buy Planescape "cheap" and now it's $10.

I'd rather pay $10 for System Shock 2 than whatever WB asks for their Arkham games.
oh really? because right they're asking 4.73 for them on the bundle.

And half of them are pure crap

That may be true for you, me and ahab, but you gotta consider that most people are probably on gog during the sales JUST FOR THE SALES. And if the sales go fluently and they percieve a good experience, they will talk well about it, possibly leading to other people logging into the website out of curiosity and maybe staying for the overall service.
Double digits baby, come on lucky 7!

This sale is what got me to actually join the community, instead of just treating it as a store.

Ditto! (No I haven't been playing Pokemon X during this sale, why do you ask?)
avatar
CorranHorn: Yes but only played the demo so far (do own the game that I bought at a sale on a local website), will play this (as I so often say about most of my games=)) when I have the time. A game starring the actor who said "Hail to the king baby" can´t be bad, Army of Darkness rules!=)

MasterofClassics: Awesome! Its well worth the time. From what I remember as a kid the acting and atmosphere were really good too. Some of the missions were scary as anything by the hype they put into it (which has no doubt to do with me being so young) and overall I really felt invested in the world and the character.
Tachyon is one of the better space sims that followed in the wake of Privateer. (There are so many....) Freelancer is another.

Touché!

I was right there with him 'til he dissed some Batman! ;)
avatar
techknight1337: Oh, I loved space sims back in the day, but I was completely into the X-Wing series and completely missed the Wing Commander series. :)
avatar
SpiderFighter: X-Wing!! Yes! There's another series I've always wanted to play!

Pretty please, GOG?
Tie-Fighter, they need to have this game on GoG, pls Disney make it so and maybe I will forgive you for giving EA the rights for Star Wars on PC.

Nope, still waiting for that one.

I wonder how many of the sale games are going to end up gifted to friends ...

SpiderFighter: YMMV. Miami Hotline has good reviews but it's not for everyone. In my opinion, it has a great style, but boring game play. Kill someone. Advance. Kill someone else. Advance. It's GTA on rails, only without the sandbox. Also, it makes me feel like I'm on a bad acid trip and that's a memory I don't want to revisit.
avatar
Shendue: I actually loved the gameplay, it's very unlike GTA, and not boring at all. It plays like a puzzle game, if anything, thanks to the "1 hit kill" mechanic. Also very replayable since it's score-based.
And if you missed the metareferences in the story, you missed the best part of the game. The story has not to be taken literally, it's completely metaphorical and metareferential.
Oh, I "get" the game; I just don't like it.
I have no problem with the ethereal, I enjoy hidden references and pop culture in games, I like a good puzzle game, and I love hardcore gameplay. I was just left completely cold and bored by HM. I'm not trolling, and I do recognize that I'm one of the very few people who don't like it, so I'm certainly not saying that others shouldn't buy it (just to be clear). I'm just saying that it's not for everyone.

My tastes are pretty varied, so I'm just as confused by it as you are. I really want to like it. Here's my GOG collection, if you're interested (or anyone else). http://www.gog.com/mix/spiderfighters_collection_with_reviews_updating
