Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

ahab: People base weather to tell people about a site based on one promo? fuck me
Well, you have to admit that if you some of your friends are on here and you talk enthusiastically about The Keaning other friends could be intrigued to find out more about that strange phenomenon ;)

cjc7: Yes, and let us not forget those who quickly thought to make the 5 star ratings , very heroic individuals, a great effort on their parts. I still am laughing about those ratings. :)

Cardian: Those are probably what saved us from The Third Coming.
I am very serious, next time I have saved up extra money in my game budget , I will buy at full retail JK2 and keep it new in my game inventory just as a memorial , that I should never forget .... moment of silence please....

You can only gift a game if you have already bought it as a gift.
When it's in your normal collection, then you can't gift it.

Faenwulf: The Horrors of Omerta are still to come down upon us.

Hotline Miami took quite a while with 900 copies last night. Then Fez this morning with, I think, 750. (GMT+1).

shadowbaneaxe: Neither of those games looks appealing at all if you ask me, so it's no surprise they took so long to sell. I suppose this promo is a good way to force some sales for such titles. Probably raked in more money for them than all previous sales combined :p
Actually Hotline Miami is a masterpiece and it has been widely praised by both critics and gamers. Specialized press wrote a lot about it and it received a ton of prizes. About Fez, i can't speak for myself since i didn't play it yet, but it received almost the same general praise and its fair amount of "best of" prizes from some indie awards.
The problem is mostly that both of them have already been offered into humble bundles and several other sales, and in the third round 500+ copies is kinda overkill since almost everybody looking for the games already picked a copy during the first 2 rounds.

Faenwulf: And the fact that it was only 25 copies the thrid tiem around.
I nearly had a heart attack when I saw HIM come onto the front page.
Oh, I'm sure without the raving reviews those 25 copies could have taken their time. The last 20 prior were really lasting....

Cardian:
I doubt that
avatar
ahab: Why? people keep implying it has to be done and over in a couple of days but never give reasons....
avatar
Shendue: They did several time, actually. It doesn't affect at all this very sale, but if the sale is more quick and fun to do, there are big chances that people will talk enthusiastically about the service to their own friends, therefore spreading the word and leading to more people joining. While the sale being slow and boring doesn't affect at all the number of copies sold in the sale itself, it damages the whole website in the long term by preventing a possible positive word of mouth.
This. Especially as it's looking increasingly likely that this will roll into Monday and some people have to work. As a result if the game they're after is missed they go away with a negative experience. That will then be reflected in negative comments. Look how people on here talk about Steam. Now I'm prepared to accept this sale has been an experiment for GOG and not entirely about the sales figures. While the sales figures are important, immediate sales are not as important as goodwill and reputation where creating future sales are concerned. That I believe is the real purpose here, a fun way to not only increase sales, but also generate future sales through increased reputation and goodwill.

If you want to know how important reputation and goodwill is in retail look up Gerald Ratner.

MasterofClassics: Has anyone else played Tachyon the Fringe? That is one heck of a space combat game.
Yes but only played the demo so far (do own the game that I bought at a sale on a local website), will play this (as I so often say about most of my games=)) when I have the time. A game starring the actor who said "Hail to the king baby" can´t be bad, Army of Darkness rules!=)
