Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Shendue: Nope. It has different gameplay. More freedom, you act as a freelance mercenary so you can accept the missions you want from who you want. Different factions, there are diplomacy and business choices involved. More freedom of choice and more strategical.

techknight1337: I caught WC4 and Privateer. The other WC games had traditional linear stories, while Privateer was essentially an early sandbox game. You could take missions from the various factions, or go rogue and be a pirate.
Thanks to both of you! I appreciate the input. I'd much rather hear what a GOGger has to say about a game, than to read an old review.

Faenwulf: People, I am shocked and appaled.
How come that one of the absolute old tiem clasics is keaning on us?
HOW?!
avatar
zlep: This raises a pressing issue. Does the verbal form require a capital K for correct usage, or is that just for the fuddy-duddies who stick to historical precedent?
As a fuddy-duddy I will always use a capital K when talking about The Keaning and will always roll my eyes when someone doesn't.

shadowbaneaxe: Wow, it's still going. Is Omerta to blame? Or were there other games that just didn't sell.
The Horrors of Omerta are still to come down upon us.

Hotline Miami took quite a while with 900 copies last night. Then Fez this morning with, I think, 750. (GMT+1).

CorranHorn: Why are some games that only where on disks the size of a CD?
Like what? Are you sure they're not from the "floppies or CD" era, where the CD version tacked on higher quality sound or image files?
avatar
zarquon: He probably means floppy disks. 1.44 mb .Remember those?
avatar
CorranHorn: Yes, that´s correct, I miss the time when you had to swap those, Space Quest IV on the Amiga was so much more fun doing this....NOT=)!.
Ah, Space Quest! Playing Space Quest 1 in the college computer lab was one of my earliest gaming experiences...
avatar
Cardian: Remember those brave souls that sacrificed themselves to The Keaning in order to move it along?
avatar
ahab: So depressing
Yes, and let us not forget those who quickly thought to make the 5 star ratings , very heroic individuals, a great effort on their parts. I still am laughing about those ratings. :)

Or near the end of that period when the cd version had some of the first FMV's?

Yes I double checked this at the time, can´t remember which titles but there where some. This damn insomnia sale (they couldn´t have chosen a better name for it) makes it hard for me to remember the name of those games.

Neither of those games looks appealing at all if you ask me, so it's no surprise they took so long to sell. I suppose this promo is a good way to force some sales for such titles. Probably raked in more money for them than all previous sales combined :p

snip3rfire: A question to pass time:

What has everyone been eating and drinking to keep them going over these past few days?
avatar
Suloyapla: Bagels, dinner, fiber breakfast bars, leftover halloween candy, cereal, cheese slices,
and milk, and lots and lots of water.... dehydration is bad.
I'm drinking Coke!

See, this why I call it the InZombia sale.
One of us, One of us!
Kill the pig!
Drink its' blood!

zlep: Ah, a definition challenge. I agree with BlueLlama - if you can see it moving, it's not Keaning.
avatar
Faenwulf: Well, you could see RCR move in its third round, too.
Still it took 8 hours (longer than the original Keaning). So, RCR was no Keaning? I'm pretty sure many people would find that to be wrong.
Well, obviously even The Prime Keaning could be seen moving at times. I also think that in order for something to truly Kean it has to have a very low unit/time ratio. 100 units of The Prime Keaning in 5 hours is far better than 600 units of The Retro Keaning in 8 hours. Also, the fact that we're now in the third round has to be taken into account. The Prime Keaning achieved its gloriousness in the second round. In the third round many games are already oversaturated. The Book of Unwritten Keanes was Keaning because of oversaturation, since it sold quite well before that. It's not easy defining a true Keaning, but 600 copies in maybe 2 hours for Privateer is no Keaning yet.

You're welcome, though I actually haven't played them yet. I completely missed the WC series when it first came out. I recently picked up a joystick again, so I'm going back to them.

implord66: Or near the end of that period when the cd version had some of the first FMV's?
Those where the days, remember reading about 7TH Guest and how it needed a CD-ROM drive to even be able to play it=).
avatar
mudd1: True, if they stretch this till next week that can't be good.
avatar
ahab: Why? people keep implying it has to be done and over in a couple of days but never give reasons....
They did several time, actually. It doesn't affect at all this very sale, but if the sale is more quick and fun to do, there are big chances that people will talk enthusiastically about the service to their own friends, therefore spreading the word and leading to more people joining. While the sale being slow and boring doesn't affect at all the number of copies sold in the sale itself, it damages the whole website in the long term by preventing a possible positive word of mouth.
