Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Suloyapla: I got in on round three... yeah... Didn't get an e-mail from gog until that far in. >_>
I personally try to visit GOG once every day in case there´s some sale or a new game I want. I´ve personally had a bussy week and I couldn´t learn about the sale until thursday... I think it was already round 2.

Anyway, Christmas is around the corner. If you don´t get a game on sale now, you will probably have a second chance then, without this pressure.

snip3rfire: A question to pass time:

What has everyone been eating and drinking to keep them going over these past few days?
Bagels, dinner, fiber breakfast bars, leftover halloween candy, cereal, cheese slices,
and milk, and lots and lots of water.... dehydration is bad.

Pabluzcu: Its getting slow... someone should post something about this sale in the Star Citizen forums :P

People there dropping millions of dollar a week, maybe some havent played one of the grandpas of space sims :P
Done.
That isn't why Gianna Sisters goes quickly. It goes quickly because I don't think it has been that discounted before.

Privateer is old. And that's part of what is causing it to be slow. In addition, Privateer, is sort of a big style game. And that hurts it a bit when later big games are even bigger. It's still selling pretty darn quickly.
Morning all,

Yesterday was strangely fortunate for me in that I got the last 2 titles in my list. But, I narrowly avoided missing them. In the morning, I got out of a meeting with coaches and checked my phone. Ultima was on sale and almost gone. I stopped frozen in the middle of the hallway, blocking traffic as I punched in my payment.

That night, I went to bed late while watching the sale. Woke up sometime, not even sure when or why and checked my phone to see what was keaning and catch up on a few pages of forum talk. To my surprise, Ultima Underground was on sale and about 80% sold. Punched in my numbers and collapsed back to sleep victorious.

I know that uses up any luck I accumulated over the past 7 years, but that's ok. I saved about $6, lol.

I'm going to keep hanging out till its all done just to stay in the foxhole with you guys...and maybe an impulse buy or two. It's been entertaining to say the least.

Some of the prices being paid for Star Citizen ships/insurance/stuff are crazy! I mean, the game sounds great, but it's not out yet, and it wouldn't be the first space sim to try to improve the formula and fall flat on its backside. It shocks me that people have the faith to part with that much money! Still... Chris Roberts, I suppose. It's certainly a safer bet than putting your faith in, say, Peter Molyneux.

Tea. In fact, i'm going to go resupply now.

zlep: Giana Sisters went fast because GOG only put up 200 (?) copies, not 600. GOG is largely determining the speed of individual titles, based on their own whims. We can but guess at the mysterious workings behind the Keaning...

zavlin: lol I love that keane is a verb now.
I was thinking the same thing. lol :) Turned out to be a positive in the end ..
i've been monitoring this sale on my ipad when at home and my phone when out. How have the rest of you done it?

Alien8n: How's this for an idea for future promos?

Take 100 games (or more, we like more)

Set a sale volume that you want to hit per game.

Display the games one at a time until either they sell out or 15 minutes has passed. If they haven't sold out then they get added back to the sale at the end of the queue. Mix with freebies and go. To ensure some longevity where popular games are concerned you can still split them into groups so the ones that sell out within 15 minutes get repeated again upto their max quantity (so Neverwinter Nights would still get 3 sales of say 1000 per group for a total of 3000 but wouldn't have any copies added to the back of the queue, unlike Jack Keane 2)

So it's basically the same but without the 4 to 5 hour waits and in theory you should also be able to get whatever game you want in a single sitting. Only downside would be the last day would be 2 or 3 games repeating until the last game is finally gone.

Also, swap out the freebie rules for 10 seconds to click, one registered click per account and randomly assigned to predetermined quantity of people.
Good suggestion, about the freebie, I suggested that as well and do believe it´s the best way to try and please everyone, I don´t really care about it myself. I came to check out the sale and see which games where free, I staid for the "nostalgia" discussions=).

:)

I blinked again. A bit longer than the last time. Updated the list. Didn't miss too much though. Thanks to all my co-pilots who have been doing the same.

iAmTheTot: Thank you guys. Looks like I didn't miss anything I wanted. :D

SpiderFighter: Nice! Hopefully, the sale will pick up speed, but the way Privateer has stalled, it's not looking great.
I'm glad it stalled. I missed it once already. I'm glad I got a chance to pick it up this time.

CorranHorn: Why are some games that only where on disks the size of a CD?
avatar
groze: You know, mostly because before DVDs there were CD-ROMs which, not surprisingly, had the size of a CD.
He probably means floppy disks. 1.44 mb .Remember those?

I think it would be more games that would end up at the end. I mean just do the math. Some games would be gone in just the minimum 3 rounds but all those games that took hours would end up being repeated over and over. So you end up having maybe days where only unpopular games are presented. I see how your concept would be much better for us but I doubt it would be better for GOG sadly :/

Faenwulf: Yeah, people have said similar things liek this since round two.
And we all hope Gog will do it like this (or similar) when they do an Insomnia sale again.
Yeah, I saw some of them but they tended to be just "sell for X minutes". This way still maintains the "limited quantity" element, but does allow for a faster turn around allowing a single sitting to be possible. If all games hit 15 minutes there would be a 25 hour turn around, so with some games going in just a few minutes you could easily turn around all the games in under 24 hours, and repeat over the weekend. Downside would be all the slow selling games at the end on an infinite loop, but I guess with freebies added that would maintain interest until the sale finally ended.
