Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Wiewioor: How to redeem this code?
I'll probably just be ninja'd, but go to:

this URL

put in the code and redeem it. That simple.

HexElf: Wasn't it Spoony who did a looong video series on the Ultima series, where he actually ended up bashing both of the Underworld games for being extremely unbalanced and unfair (among other things) ?

I remember being mesmerized by just reading a guide for one of them because even that was so involving and really got the imagination going. I was thinking "I can't believe something so epic came from a video game" after reading about one of the puzzles.
A video game made in 1992.

One of the reasons us old farts are picky about our game purchases is because the game market, back then, was very competitive. Developers had very limited budgets, hardware, and memory to work with, and you really had to put out a top-notch product if you wanted sales to be significant in any way. The result were games that pushed every envelope and restriction to the limit while simultaneously striving for the highest quality possible. For example, 1992's Daggerfall has a world map that measures 62,394 square miles, almost twice the size of that used in Lord of the Rings Online.

Garran: If you wanted to stick completely to the story order...

Ultima 1 through Ultima 6.
Savage Empire, then Martian Dreams.
Ultima Underworld 1 (It is set some time between 6 and 7 - whether it comes before or after SE and/or MD is ambiguous.)
Ultima 7 part 1 (The Black Gate) (~200 in-game years after 6.)
Ultima Underworld 2. (1 in-game year after 7p1.)
Ultima 7 part 2 (The Serpent Isle) (1.5 in-game years after 7p1.)
Ultima 8 (follows immediately after 7p2.)
Ultima 9 (follows immediately after 8.)

That said, UW1 largely stands on its own and can be played without worrying about spoiling anything from the main series. UW2 is linked to the stories of U7p1 and U7p2, but it is still playable without knowing them. Savage Empire/Martian Dreams are only vaguely connected to the main series and can be played at any point (or skipped entirely).

wackyanne: Thanks for this, a question I was going to ask myself, when my budget allowed for Ultimas. Unfortunately, while I had UVII in my cart, I closed the wrong tab, and the sale was done, on the last chance round. *sigh*
Savage Empire and Martian Dreams are still free to download on GoG. I think...

I wanted to thank everyone who has been posting lists in this threads during the last few days :) It is really a help to see which games were last.
It is ever so helpful. I filled in for awhile last night, while a couple of the regular posters were away. However, I got caught up in stuff today/this evening, so I've no idea where we stand. Not since Wing Commander IV, I think... can someone repost or tell me the post number?
I thought I could stay up to see the next game but I'm not gonna make it that far. Have fun all.

I didn't even think those games were Ultimas. :D

I mean they take place in the Amazon jungles or something weird like that...
