Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Still 46 titles to go for this round besides Ultima Underworld, and the sale started Wednesday. This could still be going on Monday at this rate.

TriciaMcMillan: HUGE shout out to worlddan for being awesome and sending me a key to The Blackwell Bundle!

Can't thank you enough! Your kindness shall not be forgotten!

There are some truly lovely people in this forum. Glad I found my way here.
Congrats! =D

Minmataro: This is embarrassing, Ultima Underworld should be selling just as fast any other classic... maybe everyone that wanted it got it the first two passes or maybe people are scared away by the graphics.

Its a shame tbh.

groze: I second your feeling. Overlooking Ultima Underworld on account of dated graphics is plain dumb. Especially at this price, and for two titles...
This of course exempts people on a budget, yes?

The graphics at first seem dated. I was at first not going to get it, when I got it a while back ago. But the game is very involving, like it's submersive to the point that graphics aren't really an issue. It's the exploration. I will say its not for everyone. I don't know why in the world GOG put it at 700 copies. Should have put it at 300. It really is for a certain kind of audience.

How did you get Moonlight Sword to work? I downloaded it, but nothing.

It's funny but when I got Minecraft a little while ago the graphics seemed very familiar because the style and overall fidelity was about the same - enough so that I'm regularly tempted to try to recreate the Underworld environments in it. (If I wasn't completely inept at scripting it might even be possible to loosely recreate the story/events, too...)
Wasn't it Spoony who did a looong video series on the Ultima series, where he actually ended up bashing both of the Underworld games for being extremely unbalanced and unfair (among other things) ?

I remember being mesmerized by just reading a guide for one of them because even that was so involving and really got the imagination going. I was thinking "I can't believe something so epic came from a video game" after reading about one of the puzzles.

thorton70: Tbh any RBG with super dated graphics I have yet to play is kind of a turn off. Maybe its playing some of the more modern beautiful RPG's, but usually the story on RPG's takes a while to develop, so exploring ect is what keeps people interesting. With such dated graphics it might be hard to get into it.

I am sure for the people who grew up playing this it will be amazing, I have old NES and Atari games like that.

Garran: The story develops fairly steadily throughout UW1 (it's pretty much a looming presence over everything you do), and in the case of UW2 it starts with a bang right from the beginning. Exploration is going to be your life right from the start in either case - you don't get anything done by sitting around in a safe spot (and you don't even start with a safe location to sit around in in UW1...)

Briareos262: I heve it. It's been backlogged for so long. It might because of my bad memories in my childhood where I finally got towards the end in Ultima 1 where I'm in space and I don't know WTH to do to finally make it to the end >_< I think I was hypnotized by the cloth map and shiny coin thinking there would be some awesome end to it to never get there =P
avatar
Garran: Not far from where you start the game is a very important hint about what to do in that final area!
I think I was 12 or less. I really did try and played the game to death and just gave up when I got so close to the end and couldnt figure out what to in the damn space part.. Sadly there was no internet back then like there is now. It was just very very primitive back then with just a black screen and text =P

He only bashed the second one, he praised the first one.

I can definitely see Ultima Underworld realm in Minecraft. I mean Minecraft makes a perfect game for recreating the experience.
