Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

tinyE: Can anyone give a comparison game to HOMM 5? Is it RPG, TBS, Strategy? It kind of looks like a card game offshoot ie AOW?
Hey you're back. A thread without TinyE is like a NES game without cheap deaths, strangely empty.

Alien_Space_Bat: I got Tex Murphy free last night just doing what I'd done around 7 times previously with the free games clicking the mouse as fast as I could when the game appeared.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I know it is an assumption of mine. I have seen how fast some games have sold, within minutes, so obviously there is a lot of people online at any time. I just think the whole idea was a bit poorly thought out. It opens the chance for random passers by to *nab* things, then maybe sell an account later on or whatnot with a couple of games on.
I would just have preferred it if you bought games in the sale, then occasionally one would occur from a list for free you could purchase. Would just seem to reward those who actively participate and support the site, rather than just lurkers trying to get what they can for free :)

MasodikTiasma: Hi again, I'm bumping this it is already 5 pages away...

I own HOMMV on Steam, but the game keeps crashing on Win7 64. I read it's a common issue.

Is the GOG version more stable? Has it been patched recently?

Thanks in advance!

WC4 took a bit more than 20 minutes, Geneforge was a bit more than 30 minutes... I think?

MasodikTiasma: Since the sale's going slowly, I reckon I have time to ask this:

Quantomas: We will do in a couple of weeks, give it a brand new AI: www.eternal-essence.com -- sort of an unofficial 3.2 patch.

By all means get the DRM free bundle from GOG, the mod architecture of Heroes V is pretty complex, can't imagine that Steamworks helps here.
Thank you, but this concerns AI. I was talking about the game crashing under Win7 64 after 1-2 hours of gameplay. Does your unofficial patch correct this as well?
Just checked back in to see HoMM5. It was Retro City Rampage when I went to bed, did I miss anything good?

HaydenRead: I went to my uncles 60th birthday last night, and just kept checking the sale on my phone....
The worst part for me is I have a University assignment due tomorrow, and I am having trouble pulling myself away from this sale...
avatar
MGShogun: Me too. As soon I get Icewind Dale and Jade Empire, I'm going to hit the bed then start on the assignment.
My assignment is on Time management and planning :-P

HOMM V is a turn-based strategy and tactics game where you hire adventurers, conquer territories, and recruit armies of various creatures. Each map is essentially independent of all the others, and the goal is usually to conquer the enemy territories.

It's strategy at the map level, choosing who to hire and how to attack, and it's tactics at the battle level where you have turn-based combat to try and defeat an enemy adventurer or stronghold. It's one of my favorite series.

I think you play it using the map moving your troops and when you encounter an enemie/enemies it changes to a turn based strategy game. Warlords is the only game I can think of that is like this.

Letting someone else explain this game instead=).

gscotti: It's sort of like HoMM III, except it sucks.
I'm curious what your reasoning is of why HoMM5 sucks? It was bad at launch because of a plethora of bugs, but those have all been ironed out by now.

I think you mean "Disciples" rather than Discipline?
