Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

I was hesitant about Steam. But finally relented.

Someone above was complaining about spam from Steam....well I can assure that person the problem is not with Steam.
I get zero mails or spam from Steam.

So far my experience with Steam (and GOG) has been 100% positive.

CharlesGrey: OK, just played some more Evoland and it's really fun. I know the offer has expired now, but I think it was absolutely worth the ~3 bucks or so it cost during the promo. For anyone who grew up with classic console Action-Adventures and RPGs, this game is worth playing just for the many references and little easter eggs alone.

rakius300: Agreed. My son and I went through it together not long after it was released and had a blast. Was fun showing him how gaming progressed over the years. Of course now he thinks I am ancient sense I could remember every period of gaming shown through Evoland lol
That is the one thing I love about that game. It is a history lesson in gaming as a game itself. I remember thinking: wouldn't it be cool if all educational material was somehow incorporated in such an interactive fashion? But I digress - it is one I will definitely share with the little ones some day as a "back in the day" showcase.
Why haven't bought Geneforce yet? What is wrong with me?
Did Witcher 2 come back around? I gave up and went to bed after buying Nox, feeling defeated and broke XD

HaydenRead: Anyone else notice how posting on the forum drops off markedly as the game count gets low, then picks up with a vengeance once a new game is listed...
It's because people are prepping themselves to fail at sniping a potential freebie.

It's the free game syndrome.

siddham: Geneforge....9.4 on Metacritic.

Got my copy.
Thanks to all who replied.
There are not reviews, just users opinions. but they have the reason. It's a great saga.

From what I know, nope.

Not yet, hoping it's next.

groze: Chicks usually enjoy the Gabriel Knight series a lot. Seriously. You may as well try it.

FearfulSymmetry: Speaking as a girl, the game that got me hooked was Dragon Age: Origins. I've shown it to several of my female friends and I think I got about five of them into gaming that way.
I guess it's just a problem with age, then! Lol!

I mean, most of the girls I know used to love Gabriel Knight back in the day -- basically all point-and-click adventure games, actually, but GK in particular --, and they were glad they could talk about it with me, since basically all guys back then were busy playing their FPSs, platformers and cRPGs. It has been a trend all my life, apparently almost every single one of my girlfriends seemed to have this fondness for the Gabriel Knight series and P-n-C adventure games in general..

And, no, it's not a pre-requisite, a "must-have", for me, it just sort of has been happening that way...

Only thing i got to say about Steam, i noticed some Kickstarter devs have started to say "Oh but Steam is the least obtrusive DRM" (some of them really dance around the issue). Come on guys. DRM or DRM free..there is no grey. DRM *is* still drm no matter the way you look at it

Minmataro: Valve is working on a pure 100% offline Steam mode.

basically you only ever need to connect to their servers to buy/download or activate a game key. Once you do that you can make a short cut to your game and play them without the client even being open.

Just give them some time, they get that people hate DRM.
Personaly I don't mind steam, its DRM is the sort of thing that just stops you from goving the game to others.(although i still have friends who know each others log in)

Do it now...quickly!

They are not wrong, some games are without DRM once you downloaded them from Steam, Takedown is said to be that and so is Wasteland (this is something Inexile confirmed on Kickstarter, if I just haven´t dreamt about it=)).

KMetalMind: Is that true? If Steam ever releases a system which once I´ve downloaded the game I can play it offline, without even using the Steam client, or having to get online every x time, then, and only then, I will start buying games at Steam.
Not sure how it would work. their current offline mode is flakey (has been since they started). You can use offline, but mileage varies. U have to go back online to refresh the credentials with Steam servers at some point then go back offline.

Shendue: I am an avid Philip K. Dick reader, so i strongly suggest to read the book. And they made a comic book based on it that's very good as well. Damn, even the videogame's great.
avatar
gscotti: There is no way I am going to read the comic book or play the game - Philip K. Dick's novel created a very dark world in my mind, a very powerfully suggestive atmosphere, a slightly steampunkish world that any comic book or videogame can only fall short of. The best thing about Blade Runner was, actually, that it didn't try to faithfully recreate the novel.
Or even game sites reviews: http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/17442
Really, it's based on the movie, not the book, and it's a milestone in the adventure genre. Play it, you won't regret it. It's not just fine, it's Broken Sword or Monkey Island good.
