Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

MGShogun: Me too. I want to sleep so badly but I'm just reading up on the trivia of Blade Runner. X.X
avatar
ramiera: Just checked yesterday, for which version should I watch (haven't seen the movie yet) :)
Final Cut on BD, I usually look at this side for reviews about movies I´m unsure about,

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1040/bladerunner_cce.html (they don´t have a review of Final Cut, the review is for the Complete Collectors Ed. HD DVD)

If you mean which version, I think The Director´s Cut is the one to watch=).

MGShogun: Whew! There's 4 versions but I myself like director's cut a lot, although the director doesn't like it.

Still, I would strongly recommend Final Cut since that's how Ridley Scott intended it.

It's quite brilliant sci-fi flick. I saw it when I was younger but I didn't appreciated it. Now, I do dig it a lot more. :D

ramiera: Thank you for the recommendation, decided on the final cut, too :) And I have stopped reading the trivia after I've found the comparison between the different versions, although I'm sure will do it after watching to check what I've missed.
No problem! I'm happy that I can be of help to you. I think Final Cut is quite amazing so it's still great.

Please enjoy it!

kc7wzl: almost think a MMO at this point would have been cheaper for her to get hooked on to LOL
When i met my Wife she was already into the Sims. Seeing all that crazy DLC im glad she only plays WoW now.

Chevette: The book is even better!

Actually, the book is a lot stranger.

I loved the director's cut of Bladerunner. I don't think any movie has captured that atmosphere as well, even to this day.
avatar
MGShogun: Yeah.... i dig the book. It's pretty awesome stuff.

I just love the atmosphere in movie version. I'm a huge movie buff and I think BR is in top 5 in terms of atmosphere.

I find it hard to believe that BR only has 90 special effect shots. That alone should said something.
I am an avid Philip K. Dick reader, so i strongly suggest to read the book. And they made a comic book based on it that's very good as well. Damn, even the videogame's great.

I dig the DC version. Still, I don't think Ridley Scott himself like that version since it was done without his input.

Thus, the Final Cut version.

johangsl: Same feeling here on the gamer wife. She has no clue as to why I keep refreshing GOG every 15 minutes lol.
avatar
Minmataro: I got mine addicted to WoW.

BAM! No more wife aggro while gaming and we even have an agreement. She can have a 3 night a week raid schedule that never changes if i can buy any game i want without maxing out my gaming Credit card.

Its been working the last 9 years.
Man, I'm a little jealous. My wife will play Civ IV, but only with me. Fortunately she will happily watch soaps by herself.
avatar
Chevette: One day you'll find a game that will convert her!
avatar
Velgor: Nope...been trying for a very long time. The only thing I've managed to rope her into is Renaissance Faire. And she's gotten me to go to musicals. She's a performer, so most of the shows I see, she's singing in. But...still...
Show her Bastion. Ladies love Bastion.
avatar
Velgor: "Blade Runner" is based on the Phillip K. Dick short story "Do Androids Dream of Android Sheep". In fact many of the big sci-fi movies in the last 30+ years have been based on his work. That includes the Schwartzenegger version of "Total Recall" and more...
avatar
jackster79: I have seen that version, and hear it is better than the newer one. Interesting bit that, one short story had a lot of influence. I will have to see if I can pick up a copy at the library (though unless there are reprints I am guessing it will be hard to find being as old is it is).
Phillip K. Dick's influence on film has been huge. Unfortunately he died before really getting a chance to enjoy the success. Poor guy had some mental problems, too; hallucinations, paranoia, etc. It's all a bit tragic. But from that fractured mind we've gotten some amazing works.

I would like to play the game but I dunno where to find it via legal means. :(
avatar
Stoltverd: Still waiting for torment and nwn diamond...
Waiting for more than 8 hours...
avatar
Daliz: I've waited for NWN Diamond since yesterday morning (it's evening here now) and no luck.. :/
I was lucky to be at my computer one of the previous times NWN came up and I got it....
But I can tell you the batch on offer was sold-out in a few minutes...!
Geneforge is selling good but noobs don't want to see it :)

Also, he spend his entire career in poverty, which is damn shame. :( I'd like for him to hit a sweet payday for his contribution to science fiction and cinema.
Geneforge is selling well.
Anyone played it?
avatar
kc7wzl: do I gave them a shot.. not only I don't like there client but I get hack emails all the time.. needless to say if it has anything to do with steam it auto hits file can 13!!!
Unlikely that it's from Steam. You probably use that email to sign up for other things and someone caught it. Make sure to run scans regularly with good software too.

Still DRM. That's like saying that nazi mad scientist gave candies to his patients while the others didn't.
avatar
Dreadjaws: An awful, awful comparison. If anything, it's like having to show your ID when you enter the mall.

It's the kind of unintrusive DRM. You can easily play the games without being online.

Edit: Wow, what happened to the quote? It's all scrambled.
No it's not. They can take YOUR whole game catalog hostage, if you disagree wih them, or have an finacial dispute. Happened to somebody I know. They had a disagreement over the pricing of a MMO. Steam disabled all his games.

I use cracks for all games I buy from them, to negate that effect of the DRM.
