Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

akwater: You don't keep your cards in your wallet? :p

Starmaker: I don't even have a wallet (and I don't normally carry cards with me anyhow). I just remember the numbers. Muscle memory FTW.
Best thing, I know my card number by heart, but when I come to the ATM, my pin escapes me. :)

I'm sure GOG will go out of their business without your help.

flagyl: This is a bad idea, if I understand the promotion correctly.

Typically, I will go to other websites I frequent and inform the members of the boards when I come across a good deal. I will not be doing so in this case. I will not tell them about the current game on sale ("Don't Starve" at the moment) nor will I tell them about the promotion in general. Why? Because of quantity limited sales.

If I step away from my PC for a 90 minutes, a game I want might have been on sale and then sold out. Why would I tip someone else off about a limited resource that I want? This is like Black Friday-offer one great deal on an item, bring people to the store and when it runs out, keep them there to browse. And you see what happens. Dollars to doughnuts, the day after Thanksgiving we will hear about fights, thefts, people running each other over for a limited resource.

I will share and sacrifice what I want for my family and friends. I won't do that for strangers.

Time limited sales will drive people to this website. That is a fine way to keep people coming back and I would tell everyone I know about the sale. Having an ARTIFICIALLY limited sale on digital items will prompt me to keep my mouth shut. I won't be telling anyone about this sale. I know I'm just one person, but what if 30-40% of your customers feel as I do? The word will not spread. No increased exposure. No more new customers.

In general, people will not share limited resources. If it means that they may not get the resource if they tell others about it, they just won't. Isn't that what the Walking Dead is all about? :) Observing true human nature when the social structure breaks down?

I like GoG. A lot. I would love to do my part to help you get more customers, but not if it means denying myself of something. I hope you guys will reconsider this strategy for the future.
see, and on the other hand, I did share both of these games with everyone I know on Facebook, and a few other automatic information websites for people to get. yes, the resources are limited, but once I got mine I just want it to switch to the next game before I have to get up from the computer, to encourage more people to buy the game faster so I can get the next before I leave. Yes, if it's going faster it will mean I will miss more when I go but oh well, it's a sale, if I went to the beach and stayed out of town for the night I could miss a one day only free game, and oh well, it's a sale, that is how it freaking works!
cool promo sounds like it will be fun

I don't own a credit card, only a pre-paid one. And it is always empty, so I do not risk anything, I'm safe :D

akwater: Here and there, mostly been offline though. I've been working 7 days on and 7 off. So my off week has been camping, fishing, and all that good outdoorsy stuff.

How's everything going?
Sounds good. You should hang around more, though. You were always nice to see around.

Just fine, like usual. Always fine with me. :-)

Coelocanth: Heh, I've actually got mine memorized (very dangerous to my cash reserves though - not recommended). :P
Me too. When my girlfriend saw that she was quite unpleasantly surprised how fast I am able to buy something on internet.

lol fun promo idea, but it's very late here, I think I can only be here for a moment need to take care of my sleep... you guy enjoy!
GOG, please provide an ample supply of baby bottles the next time you do a promo. We're apparently grossly under stock.

The back orders may not be filled for months...

:P

Safe from what? The ability to spend online?

ashley2ashes: awe thanks thats sweet, but i dont want free games. i'm just saying its kind of a raw deal to lots of people. i think even giving some advanced warning that this type of sale will be coming up would have been really nice on GoGs part so that we could have maybe even brought our cc's to classes or work etc with us, yknow :\ hopefully they can think of something like that next time. maybe they did and i didnt see it, thats possible also.

akwater: You don't keep your cards in your wallet? :p

Licurg: Dude... They're selling games at 80% off... What the hell more do you need ?!?!?
That they start the promos at the time they're supposed to start? So the usual people can have a look at it first?

I know, crazy stuff.
