Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Ooo, a familiar name. :O

Kaitu: Thought about getting it but I already got way more than I should have this sale and it is (relatively) speaking expensive for this sale.
avatar
Chevette: You know everything's dirt cheap when 3.74 is "expensive" relatively!
Bingo! I could get WC4 AND Theme Hospital for almost the same amount. :-) Mostly just have way more than I can play at this point and have to cut myself off somewhere.

Found out yesterday that, apparently, my bank limits the number of transactions that can be made in a day. capped out that limit JUST in GOG purchases. :-p
If you like hard games then download "I wanna be the guy" and "I wanna be the guy Gaiden".=)

Shendue: Maybe you can find those from farms or bio food producers so that you can be sure the animals those come from were raised in a confortable environment and fed appropriately.
I just make sure to get free range for the time being. European laws're a little stricter than some places anyway.

Follow those with "I wanna be the shrine maiden"

An unforseen hazard of having to purchase them one at a time. Paypal has so far not had any problem with it.

Deva: How many people know they have way more games than they could ever play, (let alone finish), and yet, you keep on buying new ones anyway?

Worse, how many buy them and then never get around to even installing a good number of them? I just ask to see if I'm alone on this....
avatar
justanoldgamer: I'm at 281 on GOG, so yes I don't think I'll ever play or finish them all.
I'm a bit of a hoarder and since I saw Chessmaster 9 disappear from the site it got harder to resist buying games on sale that I might like just in case they disappear too.
Was it Chessmaster 9000 or is there an actual Chessmaster 9?

Kaitu: Hey all, here's what I proposed for the next version of this sale. What do you think? (Particularly proud of the freebie system idea.) :-)

Here's my proposal for the next sale:

~120 games
~Four rounds
~Each round is 18 hours (period, no exceptions)
~Each game goes up and has 9 minutes to sell the allotment
~If a game sells quicker then the extra time is carried over to the next game and so on.
~If a game runs out of time then the surplus copies are added to the next round.
~Freebies fill in small slots
~Freebie shows up for 5 seconds, no exception
~Once the time has passed, winners of the freebies are notified
~Anyone who entered and didn't get picked gets another entry in the next one they enter
~Once you win one, your entries are reset

So, here's what would happen. Sale starts, first game is NWN2, 1000 copies. Sells out in 4 minutes. Next is SS2, 900 copies. has 13 minutes (original 9+NWN2's extra 4). IT sells out in 6 minutes. JK2 is next, 5 copies. Timer is only for 15 minutes and, when only a single copy sells, the other four are added to round two's allotment and the next game is back to the original 9 minute window.

As for freebies, RCR shows up, 50 copies, the 5 second timer ticks down. 200 people click on it. 50 people are chosen at random and get a "Congratulations" e-mail, other 150 each will get an extra "entry" in the next freebie. Next freebie is Divinity, 40 copies. The same 200 people from before enter. Now the ones who didn't win before are twice as likely as those that did to win.

What do you guys think?

P.S. Only reason I think the extra copies should be carried over is to make sure the title not selling out wasn't some fluke and to make sure people can get what they want.
GoG, please take note, especially the freebies idea.

llflawedll: Played both, didn't beat either but they were fun while I played them. Just didn't get motivated to finish em. More that storyline didn't engage me on Vagrant and Nocturne, well I played it for about hour and want to still, but you know time and such never really finished.
avatar
Schemilix: Oh you're missing out skipping their story. An hour isn't enough to get into the twisty-turny bits.

Digital Devil Saga are also two very, very solid games.
DDS and other SMT games (actually most things Atlus translates/brings) are part of my ps1/ps2/ps3/psp collections. Vagrant Story probably lost me early if it has a good storyline. I was in a dungeon (what I remember) and they storyline felt just bland. Probably didn't get far enough.

Schemilix:
Also, may i suggest almond milk? It's all veggie, it tastes amazingly well and it's a total calories bomb. That would make you a fattie in no time.
high rated
I honestly get a bit sad at all the people raging because they missed one or two titles, as if those are the only games worth buying on GOG... they do have an ever-growing catalog of titles, both old and new, plus they have sales and promos every single weekend (spanning three days, actually), so I'm guessing there are other games that might interest all you guys complaining about this and dissing GOG like you were just spoiled brats throwing a tantrum.

Plus, Christmas sale is coming soon, I'm guessing an average of 75% discounts on pretty much every title, so, just enjoy the wonderful community we have here, have a few laughs and build a wishlist with all the amazing games GOG has to offer.

Schemilix: Speaking of brutally hard games, anyone played aforementioned Vagrant Story or SMT: Lucifer's Call? (SMT: Nocturne for you Americans).

censor -> block
censure -> condemn

Deva: Wow, 281... and I thought I had a lot here at GOG at 138. My Steam games number over 400 though, due to cheap bundles that had Steam keys... I guess as someone else said, they'll be good to play when one retires.... of course, I'll probably have hundreds more by then, on the PC and new consoles that come along. At least we're all helping to support the gaming industry. :)
avatar
Ungunbu: how much money do u spend on this? omg
Too much, but then again, a reasonable amount given the number of games. At least I gave up on console gaming last generation, only sticking with the PC which made things far more affordable, given all the bundles and sales available for the PC. I'm interested in the new PS4 and Xbox One, though... so there's just asking for trouble, and I expect the monthly $$$$ spent to skyrocket once again when I buy those.
