Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

lubwak: Ypu mentioned cheap "RPGs" for the most part. New Vegas was great because of the story, System Shock mainly because of dialogues. Skyrim's best quality wasn't the story, but the possibilities it gave you. Bethesda makes tedious games with average story that must be played moderately, if you do not want to get fed up with them. Ne Vegas was made by Obsidian, so the only disadvantage was the F3 engine. F3 was awful in so many ways that I'd better not get myself started on it.

CarrionCrow: Fallout 3 was 105 hours of "Please get your fist out of my sphincter, it really distracts me from the INCREDIBLY FRIGGING IMPORTANT, CRUCIAL AND VITAL INVENTORY MANAGEMENT".
Best bit of Fallout 3 was blowing up the nuke in the town :p

CorranHorn: I would by the collection again if they included LSL 7 and the CD-version of LSL 6 =)
avatar
Daliz: CD-version, as in SVGA talkie version? It is included in the collection. LSL7 not though.
Damn, thx for the info=).

zoozilla: Can someone tell me if there's any possibility of Jade Empire coming back up for sale?

That's the one I've been waiting for, and I know it's been up before.
Join the queue, good sir. The line starts over there.
Answering to someone who asked a while ago which of the games I own here on GOG I would like to be in this sale (the forum is moving way too fast for me to look for the specific post and quote it, sorry), I'd have to say:

- the great Nox (even though that one is included in the Mac Mix Max Weekend promo, so go grab it if you haven't already, it's a must have, extremely underrated because it released a short while before Diablo 2 and people overlooked it in favor of the latter)
- Sanitarium (doesn't get on sale very often, but was recently featured on the Halloween sale and will probably be discounted again during the Christmas sale; everyone who enjoys superbly written, twisted, enthralling and disturbing storytelling should grab it as soon as they can);
- Pathologic (like Sanitarium, doesn't get featured and discounted all that often, but its ending was absolutely the biggest brain slap I've ever received. Kind of hit or miss, but if you endure the first part -- I highly recommend reading the manual included with the GOG copy -- it soon becomes one of the most interesting games you'd ever played);
- Tiny & Big in Grandpa's Leftovers (gets promo'd quite often, so grab it anytime you can, it's not revolutionary by any means, but if you're looking for shameless fun and awesome music all the while looking at a detailed and lovingly crafted cartoony world, this game will satisfy your needs);

I could go on and on, and I only own about 50 games here on GOG (mostly because I'm one of those guys that has to finish a game before he buys another one, I guess it's still something I keep from my NES days), but I'll narrow it down to those four. Even if they're not on sale, if you can, be sure to get them -- or any one of the classics and cult classics available here. I'd gladly pay €30 for Planescape: Torment or System Shock 2, they're just *that* great, even though they're "old". People have complained to me about GOG selling old games for more than they think it's their worth, but we must keep in mind that these games were pretty much impossible to get before GOG made them available again, and it's not as if those "old" games are like today's AAA titles, a guided cinematic tour while someone holds your hand, usually suffering from acute sequelitis, and then it's over, These "old" games are beafy, whole experiences that most definitely are worth what GOG asks for them full-price.

It hasn't shown this last round. Should still be coming up.

GR3G0R14N: is deadly shadows as good as first two ?
Most say no (myself included,) but for me, it has more than enough of that Thief-y feel to be worth playing.
avatar
Ungunbu: fallout 3 is very fun if u get it right
avatar
CarrionCrow: How do I get it right? Do every plot quest? Check. Increase wealth and ability like every other RPG? Check. Fully explore the map? Check. Max out my character level? Check. Be the frigging savior of the irradiated toilet bowel? Check, check and mindnumbing, boring as all hell, idiotically produced, wish all the characters would die in a glowing heap of balefire check.
that's exactly how to get a game WRONG

u have to play it the wat u enjoy it - no objectives or similar

do what u want to do when u want to do it

that's the secret

Deadly Shadows has The Cradle. A pants shitting level in my opinion.
Has divinity 2 come on yet
Thanks for the replies.

I guess I'm just going to have keep my eye on GOG... this is such an insidious way to sell games!

Uzur9: KOTOR 1 + 2
avatar
Minmataro: Have you modded Kotor 2? OMG such a great experience. Some modder put in all the missing unfinished content into the game. Kotor 2 +mods = one of the best RPGs in that generation.
I think I did play it with at least the missing/unfinished stuff.

Agreed. I had to go back and do that over and over again.
