Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Bonshea: Leisure suit Larry's selling like hot cakes. It took forever for Don't Starve to sell last night. I just don't know what's real and what's fake anymore.
avatar
Buenro-games: LSL is an awesome classic that you can't compare to a nouveau title like Don't Starve.

LSL was Sierra's response to all the hot blooded teens who were playing their other titles like King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest. They just made a raunchy funny version of those quests and the Larry saga was born. Back then you played Ultima and the Quest series for serious play time and you popped in Larry to just goof around.

Ever since the first one came out, I loved the franchise, even the much maligned Cum Laude.
Oh, no, no, no. I wasn't comparing the two games based on themselves. I realize they're two completely different, but highly respected and absolutely enjoyable, games in their own rights. I was making that joke based on how even though Don't Starve was a highly sought after game, based on forums posts, it took forever to sell. Then Leisure Suit Larry popped up and took forever to sell; and I don't believe it's because people think it's an inferior adventure game compared to others offered -I honestly think it's one of the better classics which still holds even today. Just that most people who of wanted to play the game by now have already experienced it and/or owned a copy.

I was just a little humbled by how fast LsL was selling now, compared to last night. I didn't mean any disrespect towards the game.

groupees321: How many chances did Larry get? :D
avatar
CorranHorn: Are you talking about games? If so they did 6 games of Larry (the originals) and later 2 more games (one made by Bioware if I´m not mistaken). No idea how many chances he got with women if that was your question=).

If you are talking about the sale I would guess about 2000=).
Thanks ,nice answer. I aimed funny

northern7: Did I miss Thief 2 or Icewind Dale?
No, they weren't up yet.
I wanna make fun of the game just because of the title, but I have truly absolutely no clue about this game. Going to research it real fast.

Ninlil: Uhm, I'm back after half a day expecting the Insomnia to be over, but only 7 games were added to the list?
Which of them was Jack?

Shadow Man $2.39
Retro City Rampage $3.74
Anvil of Dawn $1.49
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena $2.99
Ultima 7 The Complete Ed. $1.49
Defender's Quest $2.99
Leisure Suit Larry $2.49

TH_BEl: RCR ~8 hours
Oh god. Must have been hell.
avatar
Khalaq: OK, so what games have you enjoyed and thought were great?
avatar
CarrionCrow: I enjoyed Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Fallout 1, thought Fallout 2 was good until I got sidetracked and never finished, enjoyed Fallout Tactics enough to play through it after a friend wiped out my saves two levels from completion, Planescape Torment is great.
Based on that list, I recommend you finish Fallout 2 (the ending is great). I'm sure other people can chime in with recommendations based on what you enjoy.
avatar
MGShogun: Beneath a Steel Sky is terrific game, dude! :P
avatar
SpiderFighter: Not to mention Ultima 4!
Ah yes. My point is that not all freebies are awful.

Need to play U4, though. :P
Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth: Soulblighter are two games I'd love to see on GOG. Superb RTS games that cut out a lot of the fat from the genre to leave just what makes the game fun, the tactics and battles. The lore or fluff around it was excellent. If you enjoyed Glen Cook's Black Company books then it's almost like playing a game set in that world.

Ungunbu: i have real texas is very good
Me too, It's a great game.

northern7: Did I miss Thief 2 or Icewind Dale?
No, waiting for the bloody Thief 2 myself =)and I fairly certain ID hasn´t been in the "last chance" sale.

Don't you feel a twinge when you play Leisure Suit Larry? Like 'this is a manifestation of a problem in Western society' maybe? Oy vey.
