Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Daz12380: how big is your backlog?
Roughly 200 games.

Only beat about 25 percent of it. X.X

cakeface: Bought 4. Won 8.

Did you get NWN2C?
avatar
MGShogun: Nah, wasn't interested in that one, although I had a chance. Want to be careful with my money since Black Friday is almost here.
Ahh, awesome. Black Friday? We don't have that here and kinda find the hysteria around it kinda funny.

Anyway, I'm about to take a trip to my local Swedish embassy (otherwise known as Ikea) to grab some new stuff.

Take it easy everyone and good luck with what's to come.

Schemilix: Did you guys know there's an octopus that uses jellyfish tentacles as a weapon.
Exactly how? Do you mean propelled like small torpedoes?

avatar
Schemilix: What I like most is that there was this octopus called Charlie who, when put in a tank to pull a lever over a light to get food, refused to let the lever go, ripped the light out and squirter water at the scientists.
Ha ha, cool squid - great story. :)

Please entertain and enlighten us further oh thou great fountain of cephalopod knowledge!

Fezred: The controls were thankfully very simple. It's almost all mouse driven, with nothing cluttering the screen. Icons do must the rest. What little you have to remember is provided by GOG in the form of scans of the original manual and quick start guides. You won't need the vast majority of it, really. It is nice to read the back story material they provide though.
avatar
MGShogun: Oh sweet, thanks for letting me know. I thought I had to use weird keyboard controls. I was like......... uhhhhh lemme hit every key on the board and see if I can move my toon.

I'm back story addict so I may check it out. :)
To move the characters you just need to put the pointer near the avatar and right click and he goes in that direction, IIRC and as you hold it down and move it about he keeps moving towards the pointer. The party members follow the avatar by AI and act on their own and so you don't need to worry about them beyond their inventory and health. It also has path finding when you double click spots (right mouse I think). Not that you'll need that much. All in all a fairly keyboard free experience. The letter "i" on the keyboard brings up inventory, which is the most important key and "z" for status of the characters. Other than that very little need for the keyboard. It's not like the roguelikes with arcane sheets of keys and instructions needed. If you are a story addict then make sure to download the extras that come with the game and read them. There are guides to the land written as if done by one of the in-game characters. :)

One tip is to keep a map and a sextant in the same inventory as they work together. Lots to explore and experiment with in the game.
Come on GOG release Jade Empire!!! When it comes out it's gonna fly like pizza into a fat man's mouth.

Schemilix: Whether it's effective or not doesn't affect their right to do it, though. That's not what this conversation's about.
avatar
Shendue: Well, if my local grocery starts putting scarecrows among products because they think it's an effective anti-steal countermeasure, i guess it's in my right to express the thought that i think it's dumb.
Just wanted to say, that's a really great analogy!
