Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Khaleesia87: Was there something between Anvil of Dawn and The Chronicles of Riddick? and before Anvil of Dawn?
avatar
CarrionCrow: No. Nothing between the two.
Before Anvil was Retro City Rampage.
For seven hours.
It broke the JK2 record..was there the all time =D I'm glad I didnt miss any freebies! I bought so much stuff with this promo that my paypal balance is starving to death.
Oh no, Ultima 7... I don't have it, wasn't planning to buy it... but it's one of the ones I was afraid I'd cave for if it came up. Do I want it?
avatar
Uzur9: I dont mind Steam and all but I find it funny that some of the older games they have been putting on I find myself wanting to come here to buy them. Seeing as I feel I can get a better deal here + seems that most games come with OSTs
avatar
Minmataro: Never buy old games on Steam. THey are unsupported, you need to fix the game on your own. At least with GoG they attempt to get the games to run well on Win7/8
+1 .. hell +100!

I had to work VERY hard to get my "majesty gold" to work properly :(

KMetalMind: Personally I loved The Darkness too :P
I read that as: "I loved The Darkness 2." One of my favorites. Riddick is awesome as well though. :)
high rated
While waiting for the next game, here's a Steam code for Primordia:

elite580: Still waiting on Rayman: Origins, Postal 2, and Thief 1+2. Pretty much own everything else either already on GOG or physically, or I just don't want it.
Still waiting on Jade Empires and Expedition Conquistadors....If Jade Empires comes up first, I may just get the other on Humble Weekly.

CorranHorn: Get this one if You like Riddick from Pitch Black and the sequel, it´s one of the best games ever made based on a movie character. Starbreeze´s best game to date without a doubt.

Me too, have it on Xbox 360 and it´s a good game also got the sequel in a sale for the retail version. Another game I need to play, so many games it´s hard to decide which one to play first. Now I play Torchlight but after getting the WB humble bundle I started to play Batman : AA, they nailed the cartoon and what I like about Batman. The combat is fun but it´s way more fun lurking in the shadow taking them out one by one without them never knowing what hit them=).

cpucrust: Actually if anyone has experience with Gamers Gate, I was interested in a title named "Flat Out 2" a racing game which on GG claims to be DRM free.

Is it really DRM free like in the sense that GOG titles are? Or am I constrained by some kind of GG downloader/spyware that I must use to get/install the game?

Appreciate any guidance or thoughts on the GG experience.
avatar
Marcomies: On Gamersgate you download a separate downloader for every game and let it download the game. It does require the cd key to start downloadin.

The installer files are usually decrypted unless you have the installer running. It's not DRM free in the same sense than GOG but you won't need to install any gamersgate software on your computer to install or play the games (unless of course it's a steam game they sell). It's my second favourite site after GOG.
Thanks very much for that explanation (+1). I will look into the GG catalog soon once my 'Insomnia' wears off ;-)

Daz12380: its a shame that the first darkness werent on pc
avatar
KMetalMind: Yep! That´s true... It was an awesome game. I hope it gets re-released on PC someday...

Haven´t played the second one though, I just didn´t like the demo and Starbreeze didn´t make the game either...
i didnt like it as much as the first and less demon powers and no darkness guns made me sad all though the dark did incresed weapon damage id prefer just demon guns in general

Schemilix: That's kind of my thought. Problem is people just upload it with the serial key to torrents, so it's kind of a moot point. DRM gets restrictive when people continue to steal it.

The problem isn't people lending it to a few friends, it's people putting it up on a torrent so thousands take it for nothing. And serial keys can't stop either.

DRM is a pain but it's fundamentally the fault of large-scale piracy. I forget the stats on that pirated version of Game Dev Tycoon but it was pretty crazy.
avatar
deekaan: But how does it fight piracy? Pirates just have to get more inventive to circumvent DRM protection and they obviously do.
Whether it's effective or not doesn't affect their right to do it, though. That's not what this conversation's about.
Well I'm gonna go get a proper rest before I see any other tempting games. I wish you all luck on getting the games you want! :D

Uooo! Thanks!!

foxworks: Ultima 7, finally!!!
Yes but I the Great and Powerful Fluffle Puff already own all the Ultima games here ;D
Simple math:

Great sale + Funny community = Too Much Money Spent / Many Laughs.

Where would we be without all the slooooooow pokes to heckle, eh? It certainly got me to stop lurking.

Thanks to all involved!

[My only complaint: no Icewind Dale 2]

smoother: Can someone trade WItcher 1? I have System Shock 2 to offer.

cakeface: Annnd done.
