Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

deekaan: But how does it fight piracy? Pirates just have to get more inventive to circumvent DRM protection and they obviously do.

CarrionCrow: If companies really want to crunch piracy, they should be going after the torrent sites and having them killed off. Between those, the file storage sites that are pretty much end-to-end pirated material and the larger sites that have list after list of addresses to said storage sites, the pirate issue could be effectively eviscerated. Some might still be around, but it wouldn't even be close to what it was.
But instead, they want to engage in a futile pissing contest arms race with pirates that keep on beating them. They need to take out the distribution.
I think fighting copyright violators is a losing proposition and just alienates the customer base.
Just like all the endless meme "War On <insert here>" programs.

After buying my last AAA title, Oblivion, in 2006, I did NOT buy a single title (or pirate for that matter!) for four years.
I.e. I did not game for four whole years on the PC.
I then discovered GOG and others and it's been an immensely enjoyable journey of playing older and some newer titles that I missed - DRM free!

MysterD: My problem is sometimes retail copies and Non-GOG versions just don't get their annoying DRM pulled - i.e. Riddick: Dark Athena.

So, if GOG or somewhere else later on gets a clean DRM-FREE version, we could actually get double-dipped on.
avatar
Schemilix: So because a couple of games personally annoy you, nobody in the gaming industry should be allowed to make it difficult to steal what they made? I mean I'm all in favour of sharing and caring but video games aren't exactly a life-saving advancement. They're awesome but there are other DRM-free games lying around, you know?

It's just a very self-centred attitude to take. It bugs me, therefore I CANNOT understand why anyone would ever want to protect their assets. Blame the criminals, not the victims. It'd help if they weren't overpriced, yes, but just wait for it to devalue or something. Some people pirate cheap games too. It's just bad.
Please don't put words in my mouth. I'm going to elaborate on what I meant, since I don't think you caught what I saying or that I wasn't clear enough.

I've been buying games for years protected w/ DRM such as Steam, EA Origin, Tages, Securom ,and other DRM crap like StarForce (ewwwwww!).

As long as games are new, getting support w/ official patches, getting DLC, getting expansions, I think they absolutely have every right to protect the DRM on their games - especially early on, when the game's full price or close to it. This is when games get pirated & cracked and whatnot to Holy Hell, unfortunately - and b/c some pirate don't go out and buy the game, this hurts the hell out of game-sales. Always has, always will.

I honestly think once a game is very old; on sale cheap a lot (think $10 on AAA titles; or 75% off and below); and is NO longer getting official support w/ official patrches, DLC, expansion - they should patch the DRM-out; and this goes for ALL versions of the game!

My problem is when support goes out the window for people who already buy their games somewhere, then they don't patch DRM out when they release a DRM-FREE version like they often do for GOG-version. If I buy said game at Retail like Dark Athena, don't you think they should patch the (Tages) DRM out in THAT version if they decide to later drop a DRM-FREE version on GOG? I certainly do!

I don't like double-dipping - just to get a DRM-FREE version of the same exact game I already. Now, if they want to re-release a DRM-FREE version w/ some new/extra/unreleased content, that might be a little bit of a different story here.

What games have been and gone since Retro City Rampage?
Has Assassin's Creed been on the last chance sale yet?
Has anybody been checking out X:Rebirth already? I hear the reviews are kinda bad...

Niknos: Can anyone PM a Witcher 1 key? I keep missing them but want one bad...
It's on sale now anyway. Just check the sale tab on the main page.
So what has everyone bought during the sale so far? Here is my list:

Anvil of Dawn
Thunderscape
The Lords of Midnight
Aquanox 2
Neverwinter Nights - Diamond Edition
Nexus - The Jupiter Incident
Masters of Orion 1+2
Startopia
The Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena

No free games yet! My slow internet connection has made sure of that! ;p

Still after Aquanox 1.

So how many games have passed under the last chance tag?
